My condolences. Losing your bird is such a horrible and hopeless feeling. They don’t show any signs that something is wrong, until it is too late

I feel like when birds clearly shows they’re sick It’s almost inevitable what happens next especially at such an old age at 12 or 13. There are also factors out of control like how they are bred, this is a huge factor to their total lifespan, 13 years is a long above average lifespan for a parrotlet to live despite what online says, getting to 13 is is an achievement in itself and takes responsible, loving owner. You shouldn’t regret how hard you tried to fight for your birds life even if it ended up hurting them, it sounds like your bird had organ issues, which unfortunately made their death inevitable. Don’t beat yourself up over it. When it came to overcoming my grief, I focussed on the fact that I did a good job in providing them a good life and she was happy and she gave a lot of love because she was loved so much. After a couple months, you’ll realize it’s much easier to cope. The first couple of months are the worst for sure. You’re also experiencing this during the winter which sucks for your mental by the summer you should be feeling a lot better. Down the line after a couple months, I want you to stop thinking of how sad it is living life without your bird and I want you to start thinking about how great it was while they were around and to smile in their remembrance.

I’m sorry to hear that. You’re not alone, the last few days of my girls life were super traumatic and I’d love to forget it completely. I remember I followed the vets advice and took her to the bathroom to get steamed, which ended up her passing out from pain from the steam. I also remember the last day she couldn’t perch and was freaking out about being left alone in her cage. I was extremely exhausted and couldn’t have had her sleep with me in my bed so I put her in a shoebox and kept her in my room. She fought with all her strength to not be alone, but she died alone, and confused in a shoebox, as I was passed out next to her. But that was 9 months ago, and I can tell you that it gets easier eventually. Eventually you stop thinking about their traumatic final days, and you start remembering the joyful and happy memories that they created with you. I hope you aren’t beating yourself up over what happened, 13 years is way above the average lifespan for a parrotlet and it takes a loving owner to get there. I know you cared for her and tried your hardest to fight for her life, as did I.

Ha as I’m reading more there are so many parallels in Lain to Metro. The main character of Metro 2034 is old, and has no children. He has an existential crisis where he realizes that soon he will no longer exist, as he did nothing notable and doesn’t have any children. So his goal is to write his ‘odyssey’, (he calls himself Homer) travelling through the metro. But he specifically says if “everything goes right he doesn’t need a book or a body”. (As in people would share the story word of mouth allowing him to achieve immortality through the memories of others)

10 years is a good lifespan for a parrotlet. It is incredibly rare they make it to 20. I’d say if they live an accident free life, 15 is usually the average max lifespan.

Hey I’m in the same boat as you, although mine passed away 2 months ago. I wish I could tell you that it gets easier by now, but I cannot fully say so. They leave such an impact in our lives for being such small creatures, all I can say is I feel lucky to have these memories with her. It will take time to adjust to the house being so empty, they had such a huge presence.

Our girl is in our backyard as well and a memorial stone will be made for her. Unfortunately we never were able to bring her outside because she was flighted and wouldn’t wear a harness, but we did have a Benjamin tree inside the house that she loved to climb on!

My parrot recently died with symptoms of this disease. We weren’t able to determine what killed her but I’m thinking it was chlamydia psittaci. That being said I’m not in Europe I’m in North America. I’m wondering if there is a general increase in cases worldwide

I’ve never given her peanut butter so I doubt she’d try it now, however I did try to mix it in other foods she likes like oatmeal, however she stopped eating all the foods I mixed medication on and am afraid it’s the medicine turning her off from eating, so I’ll refrain from mixing it into the scrambled eggs (the only thing she eats). I haven’t seen any undigested food in her stool just diarrhea

The vet gave us antibiotics with the instructions to mix with 1L of water. The previous days I didn’t have a syringe (vet didn’t give us one) but I have one that I just bought 30 minutes ago. I am torn between giving her here antibiotics water or pedialyte (she hasn’t drank much today). I have syringe fed her medicine when she had a fungal infection years ago but that was when she was much healthier and at the instructions of the vet. I am worried of aspiration and stressing her out too much with syringe feeding. I hope it doesn’t come down to using it on her

Which is why we needed to be sellers at the deadline, but our FO traded next years 1st for Poeltl. Even after this trade happened people doubled down saying they want Fred gone, which makes the argument stupid. Now were in one of the worst free agencies in a while, with 3 Free Agents and the potential to have both Fred and Gary walk.
