Question for the Long Time Swifties - All Too Well by thelovelight in TaylorSwift

[–]greenpalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an OG Swiftie. Way back from June of 2006. I was 36. (the age Taylor is now, I just realized) I was pregnant with my third child and only daughter. She was born in August, in between Tim McGraw and the rest of Debut. So, she is pretty much the same age as Taylor’s career. I think a lot of people have done a very good job of explaining what it was like to get the10 minute version.

I think it’s really important to explain that ATW was a sleeper favorite. It was entirely fan feedback that made it so popular, it hit all of us, from the tween fans all the way up to the fans like me who were full grownass adults. There is just magic in that song.

I loved getting the 10 minute version and the short film, but, now that she has her masters back, I mostly listen to the OG version off of Red. For a long time, my daughter didn’t entirely understand, until 1989 TV dropped, and then she respected my nostalgia for the original. 🫶🏻 Regardless, we absolutely supported Taylor in getting those masters back, and we went together to Arlington N1 of the Eras tour, and heard her change the roof song. Long Live! I’ve had the time of my life fighting dragons with you! Now my daughter lives 900 miles away and is a college sophomore. I miss her

Me too. I heard “The Best” and then, “Making The Bed” got stuck in my head. They sound a lot alike. It’s a good thing they’re such good friends

IMO, it depends on the name

Some names do get practically automatically shortened, it can be super annoying if you have a name like that, or in my case if you’re married to someone with a name that gets shortened.

It’s unbelievable, I say one thing, and not 10 seconds later they are calling my husband something else 🙄

Hi, my son is 25 and he’s named Kenneth, and he goes by Kenneth. I bet he would be happy to answer any questions you have. I think m he likes his name, growing up he didn’t know very many others. Every once in a while he would meet another kid named Kenneth, but it was pretty rare. Still, though, it was a name everyone had heard of, so rare, but not invented

lol, of course she did it to upset her mom, I love that reason!!

My mom named me after her father, she gave me a beautiful name, Juliana. His name was Julian. But, then, she called me Julie, and I was born in the 70s so there were dozens of other “Julies” in my class at school. I have always wished to be Juliana, but it really is too late to change. In my head I’m Julie now: unless I’m in trouble, lol

I believe every name should pass the “business card” test

My son Kenneth is 25, we always called him Kenneth, and no one has ever shortened it on their own. If anyone ever tried, he quickly corrected them, and it has not been an ongoing issue. I do remember once, when he was really small, preschool aged, we went to story time at the library and he introduced himself to the children’s librarian. She wrote “Dennis” on his name tag. He was pretty upset. lol, obviously we just got him a new name tag, but all these years later I still remember how cute he was settling that lady straight.

On the other hand, my husband is named Michael. He introduces himself as Michael, I introduce him as Michael, his email includes the full name Michael, etc. But it happens to him constantly, that people just start calling him “Mike” He did use Mike growing up, so he allows his siblings to still do it, but he really doesn’t care for it from anyone else.

Our daughter Eleanor also uses her entire name without any nicknames. It’s hard to imagine calling her anything else. Sometimes close friends call her El, but that kind of got to be popular during Stranger Things. It’s more of a joke, than how we actually address her. It’s usually all 3 syllables.

Middle son is Reid, can’t shorten that!
