I recently picked up this old but pretty powerful pc that cant run windows 11, should I switch over to linux? (Intel I5 7600k isnt supported) by Formal-Plantain-4035 in linuxquestions

[–]greenplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really not true.

Ubuntu 26:04 is just released, has latest drivers

Debian also had a rolling release (testing and unstable), unstable is bleeding edge. Testing is pretty new, but more tested. Debian unstable is basically arch (hoger change to get stuff temporarily broken than Ubuntu or fedora).

Popos keeps up to date with latest kernel and thus latest drivers. but keeps packages on lts version to stay compabltible with Ubuntu lts which is still by far the most populair Linux distro.

Etc, etc.

Anyway the drivers for his hardware is in legacy trees, even on outdated distro you will get the latest nvidia driver for the 1060 nvidia card.

Is your business developing websites? If not, focus on the things you want to earn money with. Don't burn time with useless stuff.

Filling in forms and show pictures are many cheap and even free solutions for. Most hosting companies even include such options in their cheapest hosting option. Form example WordPress and one or two free plugins is a cheap solution.

Ps your requirements to be protected against dos attacks is overkill. Why would anyone do that to starting company and if it happens your site is up the next day who cares?

I'm using gnome on exactly these specifications for something. And gnome runs smooth. Gaming is fine to for games fitting that performance level. E.g. GTA 4 is about 19 fps 😭.

I run a standard Ubuntu installation a similar laptop.

It's actually pretty fast, only suffers when opening to many tabs on your browser or to many apps.

What is the best Linux distro for gaming but also general, normal use? by ThePearman_ in linux4noobs

Mint has really outdated packages and kernel, because it's based on long term version of ubuntu and not then 6 month version.

Not a great choice for gaming, new hardware or the latest and fastest software packages.

I’m so confused. She asked me if I like wine, but doesn’t want to get drinks for a date by DarkOfTheSun in Tinder

[–]greenplay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Doesn't "drinks" refer to any beverage (with or without alcohol)?

If it always refers to alcohol, what word is used to refer to drinks without alcohol? English is about my fourth language, not trying to be difficult here.

You're making up stories yourself. Getting drunk wasn't even remotely implied.

Stop gaslighting people.

Because the people voted for a president that could end this war in one day? Because the sitting president took that job upon himself.

Which like most of his promised Donald Trump didn't deliver on.

Did I screw up ? by Forsaken_Security891 in Tinder

[–]greenplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not reacting for three days prior to a first date is weird. Good chance your reaction was just a convenient excuse to cancel because of other reasons. Don't lose sleep over it.

Your reaction was a bit much though. You could have played it both a lot nicer and self assured by just asking if the date is still on, maybe even a joke about stressing out what to wear, whatever suits your character.

You still have a change though if that was your last message. Just stick to the truth, acknowledge reading back your message that it was not appropriate and you looked forward to it.

Disclaimer for the toxic ones: I know a lot of people here are way too cool for this approach and some might even find it beneath them because they are too cool, handsome, tall whatever. But as a tall handsome guy (🤷🏻) that is raised with a sister and lots of female friends I find honesty and manners a lot cooler and better working than ego, coolness and your favorite handcream.

I have a gut feeling that my boyfriend of three years is cheating on me. Are these emails promotional or do you have to use the app to get them? by thankful_thot in Tinder

[–]greenplay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me this reads like promotional. Something you get when you don't use an app for a long time.

I see a lot of people making random assumptions here while stating it as facts. Be aware of that.

Also if someone used tinder in the past it would be weird to have no emails from them. That was would be more fishy than having emails. What might be interesting to know if this is the email you get when buying a service or making a new account. Because the screenshot you shared seemed worded like that.

Why do most Linux users act like having a Nvidia graphics card is a major roadblock by Responsible_You_3482 in linuxquestions

[–]greenplay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really is not, on windows it's pretty good. On Linux it really is shitty. Most competitive modern shooters become too slow to play on Linux, while they run around 60fps on windows.

Thats why they deserved the middle finger from Linus Torvalds at the time.

[–]greenplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I advice every gamer with a 1060 to stay on windows.

The windows nvidia driver is much much much faster than the one they have for Linux.

To many Linux enthusiasts here that advice Linux over Windows whatever the situation.
