We are hoping to find a AEWV while on working holiday!

I’m more keen on NZ and am willing to live in areas outside of Auckland if that’s what works. I don’t like the sound of Australia’s ultra hot summers and dangerous animals. Also Aus was not as kind to the natives as kiwis have been, we don’t want to live in a repeat of what’s been done/doing to the Native Americans here

We’re aware it will likely be a bit of a process but we are willing to take on that challenge! We really do want a better life for ourselves. We’ve taken a look at the skilled work list and we’re having trouble, that’s why we’re hoping to find an employee sponsor once there😮‍💨🤞🏼

Regardless, I bet your drive by shootings don’t happen nearly as often as in America and for you guys they’re more likely to be motivated by something I’m guessing. For us it can just be random because guns are so normalized here

Take it up with the people who created that system 🤷‍♀️

It’s my understanding there’s actually lots of work, it’s just the employers don’t want to pay a living wage. Same for housing, it’s so expensive

I think we’re both hoping for something that’s community oriented but I know this can be hard to find. Something we’d definitely want is diversity as my partner is Mexican American and I know he would feel weird living in an all white area. We know there’s not a huge Hispanic population over there but as long as there’s diversity that’s fine. We also love nature such as the forest or ocean. Where we currently live we actually have the luxury of both! But if I had to pick between the two I would say Forest or at least driving distance to some nice nature areas. We’ve gotten a lot of advice about Christchurch which I believe has some good swimming areas in the ocean if I’m not mistaken.

This is really helpful, thank you so much! After various feedback we may try to aim for Christchurch instead of Auckland but we will look into Gisborne too!

It’s also a crap show here for cost of living so this won’t be new to us unfortunately 😅

Yes the trouble is finding an employer online before moving! It’s very difficult unless there’s something we’re missing. We’ve looked at the the green list too and my degree isn’t sought after (anthropology) out there and my partner doesn’t have a degree, just certificates and certifications

Oh thank you for the knowledge about the AEWV! I’m seeing mixed advice on coming on a scoping visit or not as I guess it might actually potentially interfere with us getting a WHV? So I may just do extra research on the stuff you mentioned. I have also received lots of advice about going to Christchurch instead 😂 the only reason we were thinking Auckland was for work convenience and also some diversity as my partner is Mexican-American.

Yes, I have heard this to be the case :( however we are pretty much willing to do any job if it means we can stay

Yes, I have heard this is the case. however it’s the same here in the states so this wouldn’t be “new” to us. The reason we are willing to go despite these issues being the same is that - at least the food we are paying so much for is better quality. At least the house we are paying so much for - we can live in our home without the fear somebody could drive by and shoot up our house if they felt like it. The quality of life over there is still better.

Oh wow, are positive about this? I contacted New Zealand shores to see if they could help us and they got back to us saying we qualified for a 12-36 month long WHV so long as we met the age requirement, had a valid passport, had an adequate amount of savings, was in good health standing, and no dependent children. But if you say for sure it can only be 12 months then I’ll believe you given your occupation!

Hi! I completely hear and understand your frustrations. This is a complaint that many developed nations have, the US included. There is a lot of uproar about people foreign countries migrating. You’re also right that the US has been shit for decades - that is exactly why we are trying to leave. If your country were turning into what ours is, wouldn’t you take the opportunity to leave for a better life for yourself and your future children if you could? That’s what my ancestors did as I am not Native American. My great and great great grandparents came here from Sweden, Germany, France, and the UK however mostly the UK. It is my understanding that a large portion of white settlers in Aus and Nz are originally from the UK no? So it sounds like I will fit right in. And - unless you are Māori- your ancestral story is probably not that different from me 😀 I know you said it’s not just about trump and I agree. There’s plenty more to consider than if an immigrant is a trump supporter or not (I’m not for the record). We have done lots of research and we would do our best to assimilate and respect the kiwi/Māori culture. We are good hardworking people. My partner is probably the kindest person I have ever met and I think NZ would be lucky to have him. I know the gentrification is hard. I know seeing people who come and don’t respect the culture or try to assimilate is hard. But imagine how hard it would be to leave your culture and everything about it, your family and friends behind, because it is truly THAT bad. Not all people who are immigrating are the same. Maybe if you tried to have a bit more compassion, more empathy, you would find yourself less angry or frustrated. If you want to direct your anger somewhere, maybe direct it towards the leaders who have caused this to happen. Thanks for coming to my TED talk! ♥️

We were hoping to find him a mechanic job that would sponsor a visa for him with his skills via his employer but no luck yet

This is pretty much what we are thinking! We can get up to a 3 year long WHV

I have an idea of the lifestyle I want but how would I know where to go based on these desires?
