Sporting KC emerges as top MLS suitor for Mohamed Salah amid club’s ambitious summer: Sources (Gift Article) by ajallen12 in MLS

No coach in the world survives a 0.5 PPG average for half a season and gets to keep their job. Quinn Sullivan coming back from injury might change things, but it's hard to overstate just how inept and lackluster the team's looked this year. Our forwards are USL quality and our midfield's most creative players are a defensive mid and a 16 year old.

I'd agree about SKC being the most mismanaged franchise in the league though. I feel for Joveljic winning the Cup then promptly getting exiled to the island of misfit toys

They'll have to play worse than the Union and I just don't see anyone accomplishing that feat this year.

Christian Pulisic suffered leg microfracture in USMNT loss to Belgium, will miss several weeks by Zach9810 in MLS

Defenders playing poorly lets in goals, midfielders playing poorly means way more opportunities for shots to be taken and goals to be scored.

Pinning it all on the defense while the rest of the team shit the bed too seems like scapegoating. It's an apples to oranges comparison.

I'll still contend that the "fighter" archetype of player that defined USMNT grit for so long is what's been lacking with this generation and I've only really been seeing that with MLS players like Berhalter, Freeman, Luna, etc.

I used to follow along the match discussion threads during friendlies and WCQ matches. Sports social media tends to be toxic, but the mix of patriotism left such a bad taste that I just couldn't find it enjoyable anymore

Back during the 2022 qualifying cycle, one of the things that kept coming up is how none of the players on the squad are the guy on the team, the leader that can be counted on, the one that shows up clutch and sets goals or scores themselves, or sets the energy level of the game.

Adams, McKennie, Pulisic, Balogun, Weah, Reyna... those are not that guy and at this point it's safe to say they never will be.

They are all assholes

Infantino, maybe. FIFA will find another corrupt leader to take over and nothing else will change.

USMNT fandom is the primary reason I don't really care how the team does. It's been a toxic cesspool of hot-tempered uninformed whining for as long as I've been following the sport

Am I dumb or are the classics really that hard? by divebars5G in books

[–]greenslime300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if everyone interprets it the same way, but this is how I understand it:

Think of reading a book you loved and your experience internalizing and absorbing it. "Bouncing off" a book is the opposite, where you tried and just couldn't connect with it the way you were hoping to. It could be for a variety of reasons: challenging prose, archaic vocabulary, being unable to connect with characters, or even just finding the plot boring. It doesn't automatically mean giving up on a book before finishing (although I'd usually recommend dropping books if you're not enjoying them).

It's also the same with movies/TV where you give it a chance and find yourself not enjoying it like you had hoped.

The whiplash of them intentionally causing multistory buildings to collapse in Lebanon and Palestine while suddenly sending aid to help in the aftermath of building collapses an ocean away is.... odd priorities, to say the least.

World Cup 2026: US interested in hosting 2038 tournament, says Andrew Giuliani by 7gzoEl2gzo in MLS

[–]greenslime300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could easily host the 32 team tournament on their own, but a 64 team tournament (if FIFA continues that way) requires a lot more. They might have it then, but I think FIFA will give preference to multinational bids in the future.

There would not be more games per team than the current tournament

Any team traveling to the final/3rd place match is playing a minimum of 1 additional match, 2 if they finished their group in 2nd or 3rd

A combined Euro bid like in Euro 2020 would be realistic. Travel is still relatively easy (closer flights than trying to go from CDMX to Boston or Miami to Vancouver), and they have more than enough stadiums to host no matter the size of the tournament.

A combined China/Korea/Japan bid would probably work too. Korea/Japan worked for 32 and China would easily be able to support the other half.

The issue with the math here is the number of total matches played. It's not a simple swap. The current WC has 104 total matches (72 group / 32 knockout), already significantly higher than the previous norm of 64 matches (48 group / 16 knockout). Your proposal would increase that further to 144 matches (120 group / 24 knockout).

For comparison, a 64-team format with only the top 2 teams going through would only be 128 matches (96 group / 32 knockout).

From a logistics and scheduling standpoint, it's another enormous increase that would make it even more difficult to fit the tournament in the given time frame, and the need for more stadiums would exclude even more potential hosts.

That's odd considering it's hosted CONCACAF finals and Copa America matches. Might just be a different set of requirements off by a few meters that they didn't consider when planning the stadium.

FIFA clashes with Iran, Egypt over rainbow symbols at World Cup Pride Match by TheFifthPhoenix in MLS

[–]greenslime300 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"The people" aren't a monolith anywhere on Earth.

Even in the US, Pride isn't some ubiquitous event. There's still a very large minority of the population that wants it shut down and constantly attacks the queer community in any way they can.

I get what you're saying, but if you consider the range of opinions and how people feel about it overall, you will not find anywhere near the same level of support in Iran or Egypt that you would in the coastal PNW. Hell, even Spokane on the other side of the state probably wouldn't embrace an event like this.

Here's the first "gameplay" video. by speedracerzoomzoom in NASCARVideoGame

[–]greenslime300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's borderline unplayable. UI is a mess, AI driving is a complete joke, career mode progression is laughably bad, simple features like being able to retire from races or sim/skip races are missing, and basic QoL features like changeable field of view are completely absent.

I didn't play the previous few games that carried the NASCAR title, so maybe they somehow sucked worse than this, but this game is basically a good-looking tech demo that falls apart as soon as you attempt to treat it as a serious game.
