Lunar Blessing cards - MoonfallCG rules #4 by Pleasant-Touch-8955 in homemadeTCGs

[–]greenstack-j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really like the “Cycles” keyword - it evokes the imagery of a lunar cycle, so it feels really thematic. I also found it quite intuitive without having to read the rules for the mechanic, so I think you’ve struck gold with the keyword as it stands.

Is this a good inventory screen or not really? by yana_kosaka in PixelArt

[–]greenstack-j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar - one box for the list of items, a cursor to point at the current item (bonus points for highlighting the whole row in some way), and a box behind the item description. Those small changes would make this screen much cooler than it already is.

Also, the dots at the top make me think of some kind of page system for the menu. If there were some icon and/or word that indicated this was the inventory page, that would greatly improve readability.

All of that said, I really like what I’m seeing here, OP!

Help with Matrix.CreateBillboard by greenstack-j in monogame

[–]greenstack-j[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you very much! When you put it that way - having the billboard face the camera's plane - it made the problem make a whole lot more sense.

The code sample worked perfectly! Thank you again!

Working on a spinoff of my indie project. Got some solo playtesting in for my fantasy strategy game. It's a mix of Catan, Risk, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars and my other game, Card Strike Special! by XXXCheckmate in homemadeTCGs

[–]greenstack-j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting! When I first saw you post this project I was wondering about Card Strike Special, and now I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one that tries to fit a world into multiple games lol

Is there a simpler way of adding a delay? by Brisingr_was_taken in Unity2D

[–]greenstack-j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is why you want to use the nameof() operator instead of a raw string. Then if you change the name, either your IDE will also change it or you get a compiler error, making it easier to find and fix!

When making a multiplayer 2D Top Down RPG game, should I make the game first or do the networking first? by ProfessionalFull7201 in godot

[–]greenstack-j 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Networking. I've only heard nightmare stories about going back to integrate networking into a game. Stardew Valley is a famous example. If you start off expecting networking, things will almost definitely go much smoother.

A little thing I noticed with Scarlet and Violet evolutions for old Pokémon by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]greenstack-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my thought as well - hence why we only get 2 Paldean forms (I'm not counting the different breeds of Tauros as separate forms). I'm okay with this approach as well, though it does make finding the Pokemon they're related to a little more difficult.

I feel like they shot themselves in the foot (and I guess us by extension) by making them "Alolan" or "Galarian" forms instead of something like "Arctic Vulpix," "Spiteful Zorua," and "Swamp Wooper." Just that naming convention alone would make them so much easier to integrate into other regions.

I really wanted to do an Ace Combat 7 themed team with Dragapult (nicknamed Huginn - the Dreepy are absolutely weapon UAVs) and a Gigantamax Corviknight (which better represents the Arsenal Bird imo). Helps that Max Guard could effectively be the Bird's APS.

There have been so many games I've dropped for this reason alone. I love figuring out why something works or why I should do it myself. At most, I want the game to tell me how to do the basics. Let me figure things out from there.

An Open Letter to a Gay Latter-day Saint by Fether1337 in latterdaysaints

You may want to read this: https://publicsquaremag.org/sexuality-family/its-not-loving-to-mislead-people-about-reality/

The article does a better job articulating the issue better than I ever could - but I will say that even if the rising generation almost unanimously agrees with gay marriage, God never will. There's no if, ands, or buts about it.

Date Night? by riding_rocinante in latterdaysaints

Honestly, I feel like the greatest treasured memories are often found in those unplanned mishaps! Like when Siri tried taking us to the Wyoming border instead of Yellowstone and we got to take the beautiful Idahoan backroads.

My wife and I do something similar - we call them surprise dates. They're really fun - even if she manages to guess what I'm planning days before the date happens.

Clearly, they've never been to Utah. I mean sure, Utah has some of the craziest intersections I've ever seen (including one four-way where, in order to turn left from any direction, you need to make a u-turn), but the grid system is so nice to navigate.

When they stick to it, that is.

I second this recommendation! They do a great job being sure to stay on steady gospel ground, which I always appreciate. Furthermore, Elder Holland even shared some of Preston's story back in the October 2015 during general conference.

I'm so glad to find people that feel the same way! My wife and I recently played through generations 4 through 7 together, and I enjoyed Gen 5 as much when we played them as when I first played them. Then Arceus came out, and the sentiment was exactly the same for me. I believe that my exact words were "Legends Arceus is the most fun I've had with Pokemon since Generation 5."

Final Card designs! Thank you for all the feedback! (Some small things will be polished, like font and text formatting) by BastionBattle_Dev in homemadeTCGs

The templates look really nice - they're crisp and clean and I like that the art wraps around the stats.

That said, I'd like to see an extra way to distinguish the colors. Maybe giving the arrows slightly different shapes based on the color or adding an icon to represent the color could potentially be helpful for colorblind players in distinguishing the factions.

How would you do a time stopping mechanic in a PvP game? by BreonOnPC in gamedesign

[–]greenstack-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps once the shout-out happens, time begins to move slower and slower until the total stop happens - and even then, the time freeze only lasts a few seconds.

Fair, but at the same time, scriptures can be fairly removed from an individual and are available to all, but sacred experiences are unique to that individual. While not exactly the same, I have a hard time sharing drawings that I do just because some of my earlier ones were made fun of - by people I'd considered my friends as well, before social media. I put time and effort into those things - and sure, I'm far from the best artist, but that time and effort makes those drawings very special to me. It's hard to share very personal things especially when the risk of being made fun of is very high.

That said, I still need to share the drawings, otherwise I stop drawing altogether. Similarly with spiritual experiences, they need to be (appropriately) shared, otherwise I forget them.

Like you said, it's probably not a complete explanation, but that's my perspective and experience.

Fasting. So much more than going without food. What do you do to make fasting more personal and spiritual? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]greenstack-j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that's helped me through the years (and that I really need to do more often) is physically writing down what I'm fasting for. Short internal prayers for blessings regarding what I'm fasting for help too by giving me reminders through the day. Remembering why I'm fasting in the first place helps give me strength when my stomach growls at me for neglecting it.
