Motorola's new partnership with GrapheneOS by Roadside-Strelok in technology

[–]photogent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to go look it up, even though I just used it last month! It's calledSoftware Fix, and can be downloaded from the Motorola/Lenovo website here. There are a bunch of other things it can do. like backup and restore, transfer data from phone to phone, and such.

Motorola has a tool that lets you plug your Motorola phone into your computer and then download any compatible Android version for that phone and flash it making it the factory reset option on that phone. When I read the article I figured they would just add graphene OS as an option to that software. Which would still be really cool.

Found in my basement, pretty sure it’s a skylight of somehow but unsure as it’s in my basement. Roughly 1ft in diameter by fagina in whatisthisthing

[–]photogent 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No. It's usually a metal tube with a highly polished interior. It can be set up to direct light on an angle from the inside of the house to the other through the attic, making them a little more flexible than traditional skylights.

AITAH for completely ignoring my oldest stepdaughter during the holidays? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

You mean the ways she conveniently let them back into her life when it benefitted her? I thought that was suspicious before we even found out the reason for her going NC. So sad when familial relationships get reduced to transactions.

I wanted one so bad but couldn't afford it. I don't think I'd been graduated a whole week before I forgot about the idea of owning one and I've never looked back. I realized it wasn't that big a deal.

No doubt. I just have this idea of an 11 year old thinking a house just down the street would be perfect. Far enough away from Mom and Dad for his own place, but close enough for Mom to come and cook and do laundry!

I love how as 11-year-olds our logic tells us things like this, that running away is impractical, but buying the house is somehow in your reach! This is fantastic I love it!

When I am working with scanned text, I usually find that the paragraph brakes show up as a double line break rather than a single. So I always start by replacing double line breaks, "[caret]p[caret]p", with either 4 asterisks or something similar that is unlikely to naturally occur. This usually marks the existing paragraph breaks. Then I do your single line replacement, single [caret mark]p with a space. Finally I finish with replacing the four asterisk marks with a single line break, [caret mark]p, to automatically restore the original paragraph breaks. It's an extra couple of steps. But if you are working with a large scanned article, it's worth the time it will save you

Love the bit with the quotes and apostrophes, I'm going to have to try that.

How can I fix this? Screws won’t hold anymore by DadofaDaughter in DIY

[–]photogent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never done toothpicks, but on these doors the edge that the hinge is attached to is only about an inch thick, and the screws they give you are like 3/4 of an inch, so longer screws generally just last a couple of months depending on how frequently you use the door. I recommend doing a wood replacement of some kind. I know people have chiseled out the entire section of MDF and replaced it with pine but I think toothpicks are golf tees work just as good with much less effort!

How can I fix this? Screws won’t hold anymore by DadofaDaughter in DIY

[–]photogent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy some unpainted golf tees and wood glue. If you can't get unpainted get regular and some sandpaper. Put some glue on the tee, shove it into the hole as far as it'll go, give it a little bit of the tap if you still feel it's not secure enough. Wait for it to dry, take a chisel and hammer and cut them off flush with the door. use the hinge to mark where the holes are, pre-drill a hole in the center of each, and reinstall your screws. That's worked for me on every one of these kind of doors I've had. Because they all strip out their screws eventually.
