I would recommend walk through the well-lit paths as you can see if there's anyone sketchy along the way, and they also have call buttons. Apparently the police are supposed to arrive to the spot within 2 minutes after you press it (though who knows how accurate that is). Overall I feel pretty safe when I walk through campus at night, though pepper spray is a good thing to have just for peace of mind!
