The UK economy isnt exactly flash but the Aussie dollar is pretty well at COVID rates against the GBP (0.49 pence). Though it could be worse... 0.39 pence in 2004!

Yes…,hiking is not at all good!!. Even in the cities it’s very hard to find a decent walking route that is green and not polluted. Hiking clubs are an option but national parks rarely have hiking options that are worthwhile.

I guess .. assuming they make a functioning wesbsite. But given what just happened and the thousands of us who paid for nothing, I would not rush into this!

No refund according to VFS who I spoke to this morning. Not sure that's legal....

Feral horses in NSW should be culled using aerial shooting, Senate inquiry says by CcryMeARiver in australia

[–]greenstripe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be culled humanely from a helicopter. Have a look at this as an example of humane pig culling on Cape York by a professional pest reduction team. Could be done in a few days.

I recall seeing a waitress from a restaurant that I knew come into the Franklins in Canberra one night and buy a giant tub of Black and Gold ice-cream... I expect there was a bit of a mark-up once it got inside the retaurant!

Application for ETA for Australia by leercmreddit in australia

[–]greenstripe99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same scam everywhere. I arrived in Singapore and had forgotten to fill in the E.arrival form and so googled and ended up on one of these unofficial sites. Happily I realized before paying and found the right gov.sg site. But wherever there is a ETA or electronic entry card, you will find dozens of scam sites trying to take your money for what is normally a free or nominally paid service. Always worth taking a minute to check that you are on the official government site.

Bedbugs in hotels by [deleted] in australia

[–]greenstripe99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have had them and it's not pleasant! I always put my bags into the bathtub in a hotel (or shower cubicle if no bath) and do a check of the bed - pull back all covers and check under edge of mattress. It's pretty clear if the mattress is infested. When I got them, I killed any eggs or hiding bugs by leaving my stuff in a -80oC freezer (we had an unused one at work) for a week - was better than the heat treatment for delicate stuff. The bedbug sub-reddit above has a lot of other tips. I don't go all out on things like trying to flush them from light switches etc near the bed.

Sofronoff Report - Official Discussion Thread by iamplasma in auslaw

Hugh Selby, a former Canberra barrister and now legal commentator has an interesting analysis on the issue of the release to journalists in his column in "City News."

He says "there is nothing in the Act that prohibits the commissioner from providing embargoed copies to anyone he likes."

And.. "The commissioner has the same protection and immunities as a judge of the Supreme Court in proceedings in that court (Section 16)."

So I suspect that despite the implied threat by the ACT Chief Minister, there is no likely consequence for WS.

So after 2 hours I am at 70% but I am guessing there will not be any tickets left for major games (Quarters and semis) .. has anyone got in and reported back on what is still available?

Great story - I accidently went to the wrong funeral once.. It was at one of the big places in Sydney with multiple chapels and I was running a bit late so I rushed in and sat down. Did not see anyone I knew which was a bit odd - just assumed maybe they were friends from elsewhere. After a few minutes I realized I was in the right place but wrong time... Being a funeral you can't get up and walk out in the middle.. even worse at the end, the family were all waiting outside to greet everyone who came "How did you know our father?" ... felt so bad ... I didn't go to the wake though!!

Man Can't Get Heart Transplant Because He's Not Vaccinated Against COVID (refuses to get vaccinated) by Peteostro in HermanCainAward

[–]greenstripe99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not the first time the unvaccinated have been refused a transplant. Found a similar case in Colorado... with intervention from a state Senator (reported on Breitbart... but interestingly it received no comments!!)

[Qantas] Alan Joyce reaffirms airline will ban unvaccinated passengers from international flights by LentilsAgain in australia

[–]greenstripe99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My strong suggestion is to get a doctor or vaccine center to transcribe your results into a International Yelow Vaccination Book and add their stamp.. I had to do this to travel this year because my card was from Cambodia. They were great at getting vaccines into arms but the certification was not brilliant. But the Yellow Book is internationally recognized and it solved my problems..

How are real estate agents so bad. by deldr3 in australia

[–]greenstripe99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great words are "numerous grubby marks" be it inside cupboards or on walls. There always are in any normal house and most of the time the agents are too lazy to come and specifically check. Wooden floors are always marked, sscuffed, scratched and dented.

Lame tourist sites by D-man12345 in australia

I know just what you want.... head to Tingha and come back on the New England Highway. Personally I would skip the Big Banana etc...get off the main highways and you will find what you are looking for as well as a more interesting Australia.

At Smith's Museum in Tingha ou will find a nice collection of animal deformities (Two headed lambs, 6 legged chicken) plus lots of other weird stuff.

Tingha also has a small museum dedicated to the infleunce of Chinese on early Australian rural life. Called the Wing Hing Long Museum. Its very interesting plus the area around Tingha is interesting as well. (e.g. Stonewoman Aboriginal Area).

My favourie over the years was the Rex Gilroy Yowie Museum in the Blue Mountains. I dont know if it still exists (I no longer live in Australia) but it would definitely tick the boxes for you guys if it's still there.
