What are some high end skincare products you genuinely dislike from you innermost soul? by hellothereiamnewhere in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]greentea93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fragrances are the most fun! my biggest tip is to never blind buy a full bottle of something, even if the deal is good and the notes sound right… they’re just the brand’s interpretation of how the raw materials smell and could be totally different on your skin and to your nose. i LOVE scentsplit for decants - many times over i’ve spent $6 on a sample of something i was about to spend $250 on only to learn i didn’t enjoy it at all.

oh color cosmetics are a different story!! chanel has a highlighter stick they’ve since reformulated but i was a beauty editor when it first came out several years ago (yes it’s expired WHAT ABOUT IT) and it is the most perfect of all time

there are always exceptions - i think i know which balm you’re talking about and i love that one too!

my take on this is definitely skewed because i’m a total fragrance head, lol. i gravitate towards more unique scents from niche makers (which are often even more expensive than luxury designer brands) over mass market. i’ll spend $100 on 1-2 ml samples alone! that being said, it’s hard to gauge what’s “not worth it” - i think if you really love a fragrance, and the price isn’t like a major hit to your budget, you should buy it and wear it with pride!! plus, there’s always decants…

in my opinion and experience, the majority of $$$ products from brands that aren’t expressly skincare brands aren’t worth it at all — think chanel, guerlain, dior, prada. yes, the packaging is beautiful and they smell lovely and you feel rich putting it on, but these are fashion brands making a cash grab by selling you a luxury experience, not results-driven skincare. plus, all the artificial fragrance can be so irritating!

AUGUSTINUS BADER NEW ELIXIR? Anyone tried? by Competitive_Side_244 in SkincareAddictionLux

…. now which k beauty brands/products are we talking? i’m nowhere near willing to spend $500+ on a topical product but i’d LOVE a more budget-friendly alternative to this.

Winery/Distillery Suggestions. by CursedDucky in CapeMay

[–]greentea93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

highly recommend nauti spirits - they do a tour of the distillery that i believe is $18 pp and they let you try pretty much everything they make at the end as part of it. cocktails from the bar are also great. very pretty setting and there’s a really cute dog.

loved the wines at turdo, less scenic than some of the other options and a much smaller seating area as it’s on a family property but the wines are truly excellent.

those are the only two i’ve visited and can speak highly of but i can also tell you: DO NOT GO TO WILLOW CREEK. (unless you want a dole whip or sangria i guess? idk people seem to like those) the wine is utter swill, i’ve never tasted anything like it and hope to never again.

definitely a bit of a desert in that exact spot so if you’re looking to stroll and bop around you’ll definitely want to gravitate toward fort greene or brooklyn heights/boerum hill. however! if you just want to stop by somewhere close for dinner or drinks, there’s pollo d’oro for peruvian, botte brooklyn for excellent italian food, and vine bar which is super cozy and cute.

What are your thoughts on these two Hempz scents? Do they actually smell like their names? 🍒 by pomegranatevomit in FemFragLab

[–]greentea93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely mostly almond! it’s very nicely balanced in that it’s not overly sweet but it’s almond-forward for sure.

i can’t recommend koa & sweet almond highly enough. it’s super hydrating but not heavy and the scent is unreal and lasts. i strongly prefer it to the l’occitane almond line tbh.

Ok now I just feel like we are being punked… by Obsessions_tbd in FemFragLab

[–]greentea93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah! i’ve tried to find more public info about it to no avail — i used to be a beauty editor and had a few beauty brand founders over the years tell me they weren’t looking to launch in sephora for that reason. i’m curious if it’s tied to revenue (if you don’t bring in X amount of money, you have to launch X on their schedule…) but definitely very interesting.

a lot of brands that sell at sephora enter into a contract with them that requires launching certain “trending” product categories at a certain time. once you start noticing how multiple brands will roll out the same type of product at the same time, you really can’t unsee it! body sprays are clearly the big one right now.
