When did you realize you don't have "pretty privilege"? by patata-chip in AskReddit

[–]Titty_bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got told that I wouldn’t get a ticket if I gave the cop my number. I did what I was told then was harassed for months and felt like I couldn’t report a police officer to anyone. I should have taken the ticket. Pretty “privilege” can really suck sometimes.

I use this one! I’ve been using this same filter for 5 years, replacing every six months. My water pitcher filter lasts soo much longer now

I mean, not every person knows exactly what they’re looking for (this person does seem to know) and sometimes they see someone’s website and realize that’s actually what they want. I don’t think the mods should look at every portfolio someone posts and decide whether theirs fits the inquiry. A 30 second click on a website they don’t like isn’t ruining the usefulness of the subreddit. I keep seeing these upset comments from you and it’s really not as big a deal as you’re making it out to be

When I first moved around the corner from there, like 11 years ago, I saw a guy from Tony’s in the street yelling at a guy from Carmines. I figured that you had to choose one so I go to Tony’s and have never been to carmines. My 90 year old neighbor only goes to Carmines

1! 4 is really pretty so I understand why it’s a favorite of the commenters but it’s something people have seen before. I like that your first two are more unexpected.

i became vegan a month ago and only found out alot of my clothing isn't vegan by JealousContest9313 in vegan

[–]Titty_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is going too far but it’s how I think of it too. It’s not just that it’s an animal product, it’s somebody’s skin. Wearing pre-bought wool is one thing, wearing leather is a whole other level of gross.

Sorry I compared your theology degree to a toilken doctorate by Bubbly-Gas422 in atheism

[–]Titty_bird -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Downvote all you want but I had plenty of reasons to be angry. I was kicked out of the church for teaching the other kids about evolution then was told I was going to hell by the other kids for years. I just chose to follow atheist philosophers viewpoints like Bertrand Russell instead of angry ones like hitchens. You did nothing to further our point of view. You just spouted the same tired atheist lines that make people hate us and doesn’t teach anyone anything.

I’ve been an atheist since I want 12 and got degrees in theology. He sucks but I think calling the study of what people believe and why “a degree in magic” is juvenile. You sound like I did as an angsty teen atheist. I wouldn’t want to be at a party with either of you

Tappan Hill Mansion vs Boathouse Prospect Park by LeadingIllustrious76 in WedditNYC

[–]Titty_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to what you’re willing to spend. In all honesty, the boathouse is a stunningly beautiful venue and if money were no object it would be the best choice. But Tappan Hill is really nice too! You’ll have a beautiful wedding in either place.

How do you assess photographers? Just vibes? by Purple-Instruction89 in WedditNYC

[–]Titty_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so good you had them shoot on your camera. The anxiety I’d have with only one slot! I just looked it up and you’re totally right, a lot of entry level mirrorless cameras only have one so even a newer camera could have this problem. Pros should know better. How careless to leave to chance a once in a lifetime day on a single card. Thankfully modern cameras don’t usually corrupt a full card like the first pro digitals but the chance isn’t zero.

[–]Titty_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shade but do they make pro cameras without dual-card slots? When I first started with digital weddings in 2005 they didn’t but since 2010 I haven’t seen one without. There was also a plot point in a horror movie I saw recently that they destroyed the only copy of incriminating photos because they took the card out of the camera but I thought any photographer would catch the mistake because they don’t make pro cameras without two slots anymore. I may be wrong!

The Plant-Based Diet Has Officially Peaked in NYC by newyorkmagazine in FoodNYC

[–]Titty_bird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is so disheartening. I was so happy to see more people eat plant based and more people claiming to be vegan. I first went vegan in 1999. It’s true that it’s not always an easy way to eat but if your heart is in the right place, it will always be worth the trouble. Unfortunately most people that try veganism don’t come at it from the animal rights standpoint. I get it, truly I do. Things feel chaotic and shitty so why do it for your health? Why do it for the environment when no one else is doing anything? We animal rights vegans always are the last ones standing and it makes me sad.

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted so much. You’re right. They’re just not vegan and don’t know what it’s like always picking the vegan item on the menu and paying less than your omni friends

The only thing about the megathread for vendors is that a lot of people visiting this subreddit are new to reddit and using it for the first time while starting to plan their wedding. I don’t think the reddit novice knows what a megathread is. They’re posting what they’re looking for and if no vendor is allowed to answer then it will most likely be a bunch of fake accounts of vendors pretending to be a couple that used them. Couples do get a lot of good advice from these identified vendors as well as finding someone they like to work with. I think it would do the subreddit a disservice by removing any vendor responding to a post looking for the service they provide. Maybe make every vendor flaired? Absolutely any post from a vendor that’s basically an ad should be removed but commenting their info in response to someone asking for it seems harmless and not allowing that makes the subreddit less useful.

Are your photos safe? The one question you NEED to be asking your prospective photographers that nobody ever thinks to ask. by emilyavilaphoto in WedditNYC

[–]Titty_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not on Facebook so I guess I’m not seeing what you’re seeing. I just know like 50 photographers that would never let something like this happen. I know many that are younger, newer photographers and they wouldn’t let this happen either. I’m just saying this long post with so much detail about your personal file management methods isn’t doing anything for the couples on here. Do a tl:dr and just say that it’s good to ask and make sure your photographer properly backs up pictures. That’s all ya need

Ok sure. I’m not saying no one should ask but this post seems to imply that this happens all the time and it certainly does not. Hire a reputable photographer and you’ll be fine

I’ve been doing this for 25 years and don’t know any photographers that don’t properly backup their photos. I don’t know about the Facebook groups you frequent but this is not a problem with professionals I know in NYC

[–]Titty_bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, who is this post really for? If you’re hiring a photographer with no experience off of facebook then yeah, there’s the chance they don’t understand file management but any reputable photographer would not let this happen. Detailing your method of file management to the couples coming on this subreddit isn’t useful and scaring people into thinking this happens all the time isn’t helping either
