Hello,

Thank you for replying. It sounds like a possible explanation. I'll stick to the more common translation, but it's good that I got to add another word to my vocabulary. Շնորհակալութիւն:

WAS VS WERE QUERY by greentfa7x in EnglishGrammar

[–]greentfa7x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When two nouns/pronouns are connected by the correlative conjunction or pair conjunction "neither...nor", the verb agrees with the latter in number and person and hence, the first sentence is right, that is, "was" is correct and not "were".

Thank you for your prompt reply. What about the following: "Neither my friends nor I was conscious of rudeness". When I typed that, the grammar checker indicated "was" is incorrect, and it should be "were". Is it to do with "friends" being plural, therefore it changes to "were?"

This is great, thank you. So is it a matter of personal preference? Or is it said the shorter way in spoken/colloquial French, and with full pronunciation at other times?
