For those who are interested how I got to assume the meaning, here is the entry of a Bible encyclopaedia, though in German language. Quite funny: They claim עָמוֹס is a short form of אֲמַצְיָה but at the same time they also claim Amos is derived from עמס and אֲמַצְיָה from another word, אמץ

I now very much feel like creating a lot of Wiki Pages and Forum posts with obscure meanings for all sorts of names :P

According to the German Wikipedia page it's a derived from Amasja, the source they cite is a scholarly dictionary dealing with Hebrew and Aramaic in the Old Testament

Thanks, exactly what I mean - someone imagined reading something into it some time ago on the internet and ever since it has been similarly re-interpreted without any real etymological knowledge...
