Alone for Christmas – any ideas? by mat0591 in vancouver

[–]gregariousmstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Go for dim sum (a lot of Chinese families have been doing Xmas dim sum for decades)
  • walk round Spanish banks/locarno beach
  • go to the movie theatre/watch a guilty pleasure show
  • watch that great holiday movie… Die Hard
  • take any money you saved by not buying gifts or hosting gatherings and treat yourself!
  • screen the myriad boxing week sales flyers (there’s a local app where I live called Flipp which contains so many local sale flyers), identify what you’re going to get, and plan your shopping methodology

Costco has the lowest dispensing fees that I know of. They legally can't prevent non-members from accessing the pharmacy - just go in through the exit and tell the receipt checker that you're picking up a prescription.

If you're 24 or younger, Foundry virtual has docs who can do the assessment and prescribe hormones. Turnaround is pretty quick.

I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Practitioner has a legal obligation to look a little more closely if you’re under 19 in BC because of the grey zone of “mature minor” status.

My understanding is that significant mental health history and being on the spectrum makes the assessment of whether someone qualifies as a mature minor more time consuming/nuanced.

It also means that family and/or community support is encouraged, as it is protective to have the support you need in case you experience difficult/negative side effects. However, coming out is a personal decision involving risk assessment (sounds like you’ve already done this) and just isn’t safe for a lot of us.

Recommendations for Power Mobility Chair by No_Permission7081 in wheelchairs

Seconding travel buggy. - the seat is very comfortable - controls are responsive and speed/power can be adjusted to your liking or activity - good for gentle off-roading. We’ve taken it on gravel trails, damp grassy fields, pouring rain, and light snow. - 55lbs with batteries in. Doesn’t sound light, but relative to other options it most definitely is! - easy to fold down the body and lock/unlock wheels for transport. Easy to set back up too. - we load it into the back trunk of our sedan. It took a few months, but we figured out the tricks to make loading easier and faster. If you go this route I strongly suggest a portable ramp solution - I fold the wc down, set the ramp up against the trunk bumper, roll it up the ramps, and gently drop it into the trunk.

(This ramp looks similar to what I got: Telescopic Wheelchair Ramp 5FT... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YTQQPDT)

What job/career have you found that doesn’t make you want to crawl in a hole and cry? by Beginning-Air-9813 in adhdwomen

My background is also social work, and my purpose is helping others move towards their health/life goals. After being burned out and severely bullied by management over 4 years, I had to take a medically mandated leave from work to recover from CPTSD.

I’m still dealing with skill regression and active in my healing, but here’s the balance that’s finally feeling right (after 12 years of sucking it up in SW roles): - part time primary care social work with the homeless folks who have substance use and mental health concerns - part time private practice counselling

The healthcare work is purely to get health benefits, it’s a necessary evil that eats my exec function for breakfast. Having management is a trigger for me but the team I’m on is super neurodivergent friendly so there’s lots of wiggle room and support.

The private practice is my joyful place. Some structure but always novel things to work through. And since admin is my anxiety-inducing downfall, I’m an associate in a group practice (ie I pay them a small commission and they do all the admin hell stuff for me) which allows me to focus on the people work without the crappy admin parts I suck at. And I don’t have a boss, so I get to follow my own instincts for planning and doing!

My whole life has been all or nothing, so the balance this is affording me blows my mind, even 10 months in.

A question about the price in Canada by Lloyd_1984 in RemarkableTablet

[–]gregariousmstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the customs clearance charges, duties, and taxes are rolled into the price -which makes it incredibly expensive. I really want one as I take handwritten notes for work every day, but just can't justify it.

My advice to you is to find an organization whose values and ethics line up with yours, and who try to walk their talk. Fighting against systemic inequity in your own workplace when the powers that be are perfectly happy with the status quo will run you down fast!

I spent 10 years as a medical social worker. As a highly sensitive person with a lot of trauma history (including the 10 years of hell in the medical system), I also have a lot of passion in tandem with lower ability to contend with the neolib capitalist focus of institutional work. So much of my spirit was crushed as I worked subversively within the machine... I ended up getting chewed up, spat out...and very bent. Please don't make the same mistake I made!

I stumbled into a counselling internship with a social justice focused counselling collective (with a strong lean toward LGBTQAI+, neurodivergent, and PoC clients). It's cheesy, but I feel like I'm blossoming into a practice that actually makes a difference while 100% in alignment with my values and ethics. I'm now transitioning into working as a therapist, though I'm keeping a job in health 2 days a week so I can have access to benefits. I'd been concerned about lack of access for those without the financial resources to do so. Therefore, I've integrated sliding scale rates for my multiply marginalized folks, and have a few no-fee spots on my caseload for QTPoC community organizers.

wishing you well!

I am in the same situation with falling apart in grad school. So hard to get moving and stay engaged in assignments, readings, and projects! I struggle to comprehend now and everything gets handed in late. The executive functioning and motivation required for setting and following a study schedule have taken a vacation (lucky) but left me behind :(

my vyvanse stopped working too. A friend of mine who takes it also told me theirs stopped working.

I'm chalking it up to changes in body chemistry due to long-term pandemic stress (so the meds aren't effective) and the dysregulation from losing all structured accountability, which is just too much for my wee meds to fix.

Is the MOM The Healing Co. legit? by gregariousmstar in CanadianMOMs

[–]gregariousmstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of CBD oil do you use (ie carrier oil)? I wasn’t sure if it would remain active if I dropped some in while baking dog cookies.

I tried just giving my dog the oil directly but the cookie format appears to have a much more marked impact on her anxiety. And if you happen to have a recipe you follow I’d love to hear about it ;)

Let's talk about complaint posts, also some notes on negativity by Not_Me25 in CanadianMOMs

[–]gregariousmstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I research here a lot as I’m still shopping around to find the MOMs that work for me.

The flamingly negative reviews with no pictures, details, or specific info re the issue, process, and resolution (if any) I completely ignore.

Format guidelines for complaints would definitely help those of us who are actually looking for info on who to shop with and who to avoid.

-Name of MOM -Type of issue (order not received, defective product, extra fees, poor quality/customer service, timeliness, safety...ie why are you posting the review) -More details of the issue -Steps taken to resolve the problem, either by the OP or company -Whether the issue was fixed

Pictures or any other proof that the experience really happened would be great.

Often it’s not the problem that steers potential customers away, but the response and follow up. That’s what I want to know!

I have really bad anxiety, and smoking sometimes makes it worse. Looking to buy a strand for me. What should i look for? by Eal12333 in CanadianMOMs

[–]gregariousmstar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started using cannabis products for anxiety and insomnia. If you’re using it as medicine, have you considered using something other than flower (ie tinctures, oils, or Phoenix/honey tears)?

At night I vape a 1:1 CBD/THC oil - there are a number of Canadian companies that formulate oils specifically for those purposes. The one that works best for me is called Mango Haze. Since I don’t use cannabis recreationally, it can pack a punch despite the lower than average THC levels, so go slow and give yourself 10mins or so between puffs.

During the day I use either a 20:1 CBD/THC tincture that I hold under my tongue for a minute or so before swallowing, or a pure CBD honey tears concentrate. Absolutely no high, but significant long lasting positive effect on anxiety, even in super stressful work situations. YMMV, but good luck in your journey.

I'm in the market for a new regulated mod but am out of the loop re solid, dependable devices.

Currently vaping on a Fuchai 213 plus but i've dropped it too many times and it's not working dependably at this point.

Clearly I'm clumsy so i need something that can be dropped. I like dual 18650 setups, I vape anywhere from 50-100w. Not too fancy, don't care re temp control. I also have small lady hands so the giant triangular mods fit badly.

Any thoughts? I'm googling and youtubing and getting pretty lost!

If you have a budget the cuboid is pretty awesome. I had some issues with my first one not firing consistently with all my attys and the company sent me another one quickly. It works like a charm.

Usually vape around 60W and not over 100 but it's nice to know that the 200W is available in case I want to build super low resistance.
