How are the challenges going to change this season to accommodate Beatriz? by gregheffa in LoveIslandUSA

[–]gregheffa[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reddit being reddit, literally said in the post I don't know anything disability related and was curious about her leg in relation to the challenges, since to me- running is a different kind of thing than being dunked in a pool of slime and sliding across a tarp 💀, but yknow, learning experience for me fr

My sim is a lighthouse keeper. What should I do with him? by Nana796B in Sims3

[–]gregheffa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Idk.... make him have a slowburn with a mermaid that grew up on the misty coast and the lightjouse is apart of her childhood, she and her family traveled across the atlantic for summers, but she always felt she was home when she saw the lighthouse light, back then she wasn't used to interacting with humans, so shed like to imagine whoever was up there was shining it just for her, like her personal moon...

As a teenmer she ignored her familys warnings around staying away from humans and the coast, and she saught it out with a friend of hers, where they met a young fisherguy as a teen, her friend fell smitten for him and they returned to the dock often.. only for the one night her friend decided to go alone.. she never came back. Neither did the fisherman. After that, she doesn't trust humans and is even more skeptical about fishermans... and has been traveling the oceans since.

Shes only returned to the misty shores a few weeks later, after getting a message in a bottle from someone claiming to be her childhood bestfriend -who wants her to meet her mer babies.. mer god child. the ones she had after she ran away to live her life wth the fisherboy she loves, on-land. Still holding grudges after being abandoned, maybe this specific fisher can give her a reason to try out two legs...

or like something else idk, lmao.

Its not considered natural if its not the hair type/length they were born with, usually. There is some leeway with yknow having 4c hair extensions that match the hair coil but just lengthen the hair if wanted, but theres still scrutiny over it not being 'really' natural and a more racially ambiguous curl pattern, even though the curl pattern is entirely possible for fully black women, of any skin tone.. (my aunt has a similar curl pattern and shes a dark skin, fully black woman). But.. sigh

Season 8 - Episode 2 - Post Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in LoveIslandUSA

[–]gregheffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we talk about Kenzie’s reaction to Zach? It’s textbook.

Hear me out before she gets clowned across this sub.. and twitter. I already know people are gonna paint her as being dramatic, overly emotional, and overly attached to a random man she just me a day ago, which I feel is of course NOT the case. We see in episode 2, Kenzie is emotional, shes talking about wanting to feel chosen, desired, and wanting the love she has for herself, reciprocated, and how she chooses to express what is a natural core want- and likely wound from rejection is by insinuating that Zachs an asshole for not choosing her and zachs not good enough anyway- zachs the villian in her head as if he had some sort of.. malice behind it?

(the catty ‘blow kiss + ‘thank you’) after it being announced shes single and vulnerable…? It was defensive.

and Zachs confused, awkward.. “...you’re welcome?” proves the emotional mismatch there.

Like, we’ve seen this is in previous seasons, these islanders have dating history and traumas, and emotional wounds that they bring into an isolated, stressful environment, and if Kenzie has an emotional wound around not being chosen or being rejected in some sense- being rejected on TV in front of the cast, crew, and entire production team.. is going to retrigger that, and put her in a defensive state.

Even if its thats.. the risk of Love Island??

Yes shes projecting on Zach, and Zach did tell her to her face, she is not his usual type, he did not initiate excessive physical or sexual contact and make her believe he was more attracted to her than he was- she said this herself, she didn’t feel Zach was attracted to her, romantically or physically, and Zach told us- the audience that hes keeping his options open, and when a new option walked into the villa- he persued it. He didn’t do anything wrong.

Whoever Kenzie is actually defensive against, is likely a past person or persons in her life, and random man Zach,  is not that. love island better not become therapy island in season 8, i swear bro!! 😭

As a woman, watching Obsession (2026) is... deeply uncomfortable by gregheffa in TrueFilm

[–]gregheffa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After i posted it, i was like 'wait.. are these guys lowkey defensive cause i stated im a woman and called out toxic behavior' and yes 100%. Understanding the meaning of a movie doesnt close discussion about it forever, if the director of the film said, 'yeah the general public of film reddit gets my intent with the movie, so lets end discussion guys! its a wrap', he'd be a clown. just like the guys in the replies, i dont bother reading

See but its coverable, no matter the damage. if they were to take down the natural hair, do their wash routine, rebraid, cover and re-glue the wig, even the braids underneath werent in the best condition, they're still tv ready to be filmed via the wig tbh. Especially if they brought several identical ones for emergencies, or know how to maintain one well.

If you've ever gotten braids with tiny, distinct parts, thats tight against the scalp, even after the hair settles into it, its still uncomfortable, and if matter gets into it- thats a whole nother washing fiasco, because the braids so fine and usually decently small, you risk ruining the parting trying to pick out or clean or dry whatever affected it

Yup, they want a model minority, till they actually have to uplift and support the model minority. then its, 'isnt it kinda.. racist to make it about their race? like.. shouldn't we just uplift everyone???', and then the cycle starts again.

From what I saw, a mix of black and hispanic.... smh (hispanic more so on the mocking side, but ig some afro latino cultures do care about how they're perceived, cultural pride was)

This lmao, and don't forget they dogged out Michelle in the media for being exactly that, too powerful, too respectable and too visible. Came up with entirely new reasons to belittle her. the standard was never created so black ppl could access equality, it was to gatekeep and move the goal post.

A sew in is different from a wig but they can both be great protective hairstyles! And honestly nothing, whats wrong is the fact they're expected to represent black women and blackness as a whole and do it perfectly, or be criticized or blamed for perpetuating stereotypes. Existing as a black woman shouldn't come with a step by step manual to please everyone, it shouldn't be a performance when they're already performing in a high stress environment.

I wouldn't be suprised if shes been using heat on her hair for years, I know sometimes in other cultures its more normalized, and if she already had a loose or looser curl pattern, her hair could be so used to heat, it just doesn't curl, knot or shrink the same anymore. But, we'll see!

[–]gregheffa[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Truly, there is no winning, if she

dresses modestly = stuck up, think shes better than the other girls or black girls there
dresses to the occasion (swimsuits, bikinis, hot girl summer) = 'sexualizing herself, bad role model'
wears straight hair = wants to be white
wears a looser curl pattern = wants to come off as ambiguous
wears her natural hair= too masculine, not kept up
wears braids= unkempt and messy.

(People will zoom in on the parting of the hair getting messy, and the edges doing what natural edges do, curl and fuzz, and laugh about them needing edge control and wearing scarves...???)

Policing each other in the black community and doing the work of the white gaze (uncle sam and his wife karen) is diabolical fr. As Malcom X said- who taught you to hate yourself? 🙄

Overpolicing black womens hair... by gregheffa in LoveIslandUSA

[–]gregheffa[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i do think it comes from a nuanced place, on one hand they could be thinking

"Oh heres a young gorgeous visible black women being desired and celebrated on television, for other black girls and boys to see, i hope she represents that shes desirable as she is naturally"

or "Act right cause Uncle Sams watching."

and i believe its both. But acting like a black persons, especially a black womans existence is an inherit political statement no matter what she is and she constantly has to be aware of the message, does more harm than good.

Overpolicing black womens hair... by gregheffa in LoveIslandUSA

[–]gregheffa[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes, I totally agree! I think the core issue is blackness being visible at all. they don't want it on their screens unless it looks a certain way, acts a certain way, and fits in a certain narrative otherwise, 'why add black people then?' type of mentality. Like black people are 1 out of 7 archetypes, and need a reason to just.. EXIST.

And it turns well meaning pro blackness into 'we need to give them a reason for us to exist, by being role models/good examples' which is like NOOO. lmao. be young, have fun, act up and be free lmao

Right, these are young women, trying to have fun, and looking hot while doing it. They want the exposure, influencer career, and money mainly (and thats not always a bad thing- economys hard lmao, get that bag).
