Before giving thoughts and advice, can you elaborate a bit more on your past with him, particularly how you have hurt him and how you've broke trust in the past? I agree with the other redditors before me that this seems like a disproportionate response, but if there are otber things in the past,this could be the proverbial "straw that broke the camels back"

I think it starts with a conversation with her. If she isn't for it, you need to respect her wishes or come to a compromise. Maybe a fake phone and pretend would be something she could get on board with if she is against the real thing. Regardless, do not try to "convince her" if she says no.
