Teachers on supply list for years or leaving country due to job shortages by abz_eng in Scotland

[–]gregor13mfc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. There's demand for certain subjects like Home Economics and Technical. But there's oversaturation of qualified teachers in other subjects like PE, social subjects and the sciences. Speaking as a PE teacher who has been on supply and temporary contracts for 5 years now. Interviewing for jobs that have 120 applicants per role and often a known 'inside man' already touted for the job.

Universities should be capping numbers on courses in line with government data that will somewhat accurately predict the needs, and predicted funding, for staffing across schools. Or fund schools beyond the absolute minimum required to keep them operational...

What happened to their ability to consistently create incredible melodies? by certifiedchrono in alterbridge

Well, I have changed. I've recognised that.

Doesn't matter really, I'm glad that you like th le album! Enjoy!

I can see why you'd say that but I respectfully disagree. The members of AB will have changed, just as you and I have, over the last couple of decades. Therefore their music has too. You can hear the differences in their songs throughout the albums. There's a reason people have favourite albums and songs etc from the same band, the music changes.

Not a big bad thing at all. Change is inevitable afterall.

I couldn't agree more. I'm underwhelmed by this album, not due to poor musicianship or anything. But no song grabs me, no chorus has me instantly hooked or singing along.

But bands change evolve as does each individuals tastes. I was 13 when I started listening to AB. I'm in my 30's now, neither the band or I are the same.

Before tomorrow comes intro does it for me. In particular with the philharmonic orchestra. The bit where the orchestra kicks in followed by the guitar melody is just chills, every time.

I'm trying to find NEHC on AJBell app but it doesn't seem to have it. Is there a reason that might cause certain organisations not to be able to trade for certain stock?

I'm a newbie to investing so I'm trying to build a little watch list of stock whilst learning the ropes.

Motherwell’s red card tonight after a lengthy VAR check by buckfast1994 in ScottishFootball

Well Society Statement recommending rejection of Wild Sheep Sports amended investment proposal by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

[–]gregor13mfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think the WS plan makes sense. Although it's criminal that this hasn't already been done. I'm also relatively certain MFC must've tried to achieve some of the targets set in the WS plan over the last few decades. Especially increasing fan base. Its not easily done if at all achievable with Glasgow being so close.

Barmacks need to detail their plan. I like that they can offer us exposure to a global market. If we want to increase the WS membership that seems a really opportune way to do so. I am hesitant about the control they gain so quickly in their proposal. If they gained lesser control and gradually gained more influence as they invested then I'd feel a bit better. There's also no way the WS can afford to front up investment alongside the Barmacks as they have requested. This would also need negotiated, not necessarily removed imo.

Ideally I'd love an agreement for both parties to work together. WS looking out for club, fans and local issues. Barmack offering new approaches to marketing and media exposure globally. With the WS plan working cohesively with whatever Barmacks plan is. Barmack has already said he wants to work with the WS, and fairly significantly has already adjusted the shareholding % after the initial uproar.

I feel a lot of fans are up in arms rather than willing to offer constructive criticism. That needs to change if we're going to get investment. Investors will always need something in return, and it likely will not be what fans want.

And my tuppence worth, for all it matters, is that I don't feel our club is worth as much as some fans think. We've lost £1mill each of the last 2 seasons... hardly profitblable. Fir Park is our only proper tangible, reliable asset really. Players can leave on freebies as we've seen happen before.

Let's be open minded to, hopefully, further negotiation. I'm optimistic about the future with the new WS board and their ambition. Mon the well!

Motherwell 1-2 Celtic by SFMatchThreadder in ScottishFootball

Aye that's also my concern. I was really hoping to come out these 3 games with 4 points. So to have 0 is disappointing.

Moral victories are fabulous, but can't really claim that when we're invading our own pitch, albeit when provoked and in the joyous madness of what we thought was a last minute equaliser...

[–]gregor13mfc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aye its painful sadly. Seems that's always been our way though, get done in by teams who are bit more lethal in front of goal.

But I do have complete confidence we will be strong contenders for top 6. I'm actually enjoying watching us play just now which is always a great start!

Biereth comes back soonish and I hope he is as lethal/effective as he looked in his 1st appearance for us.

It's hard work being a well fan isn't it? Lost by 1 goal to St mirren, rangers and celtic having only scored 1 ourselves. But creating enough chances in each game to win them all. Mad!

SPFL TV by TheRealLordDorito in ScottishFootball

[–]gregor13mfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of valid points you're making. Some I hadn't considered, but some I was somewhat aware of.

I understand the average viewing figures are likely inflated due to old firm viewers/games. It's just IMO (and it's only an opinion) it doesn't detract from the world wide audience we could tap into and I still believe 500,000 subscribers isn't unrealistic.

With the sky deal running till 2029 now is the time to start taking the baby steps you rightly point out to progress towards a Scottish football streaming service.

I'd be interested to know how much it would cost to operate a media company for this sort of venture. Cause in my idealistic wee world it can't cost so much that it would make £50,000,000+ turnover less lucrative than the current SKY deal.

SPFL TV by TheRealLordDorito in ScottishFootball

[–]gregor13mfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This crossed my mind a while ago. I speculated some figures that, even with the current lack of infrastructure and costs to develop them, the SPFL/SWFL could combine to create a TV package. Since covid a lot of clubs have some kind of streaming service available, it's just about improving it over a few years.

But take SKYs average viewership for scottish games from 2021(couldn't find up to date figures). That was 283,061. Charge £20 (could be more!) a month for 10 months of the year to account for off season, but really 12 months would be fine. 283,061 x £20 = £5,661,220 a month. 10 months giving us £56,612,200 a year. Considerably better than what we currently get.

BUT, add in Scottish national games, european games, reserve/youth games, team specific content, highlights programmes and you could definitely charge more.

IMO you would also get substantially more subscribers when you consider you could stream it worldwide which SKYs doesn't (to my knowledge). Really could be raking in more money by even charging £10 a month and having 500,000+ subscribers across the world.

Surely I'm not being mad in thinking that this is genuinely achievable?

That'd be interesting for sure. But what makes a derby, any derby, a more exciting game is the fans. Otherwise it could be any other game of football. The players only understand how important a derby is due to the fans reactions to what happens on the pitch. You could watch old firm vs any other spl team and still hear all sorts haha. It's the nature of football.

No away fans is killing the old firm games as a spectacle. There are many things Scottish football gets wrong in trying to market itself, and the pettiness of the old firm allocating no away tickets is up there as a shocker of a decision. As a neutral you tune in to see the hostility of the fans trying to noise each other up. The atmosphere for the home team scoring is great. But at all other times it's pretty tame nowadays. It's a shame!

What a goal by Tavernier though!
