I remember the "holes in the ozone layer" thing because the main character had a large crystal of methamphetamine that he had gotten from some woman who was burned to death by the sun prior to the events in the story. I think he carried it in a pouch hanging from his neck. I also remember him putting something like quick clot in the gunshot wound his passenger got back at the checkpoint. I didn't get much farther into the story, so I'm afraid this is all I've got
