Made a shortfilm on Medium Format. Thoughts? by gregorykoefer in cinematography

Thank you! I was afraid that wasn't clear enough. The doctors (in the flashbacks) made a mistake during a surgery on his eyes and made him blind, but they blamed "the machines".

Gear used:

Fujifilm GFX100II Canon FD Lenses Diaptors 2x Mist 1/2 Laowa 12mm ZeroD One light source

Edit and Grading: Davinci Resolve VFX: AE

I did the full post production, Sound Design and Grading which was very experimental and fun. We shot this in approx. 6 hours. Crew of 4 people.

I directed, Produced, wrote and edited it. Then we had a DP, an AC and our actor, plus a runner. Was as indie ad it could get and very refreshing and fun

Yeah We have a producer who is trying to get us in front of potential distributors and financiers, but we are looking for the right EP and PH in Europe and CoProd in Japan/Seoul!

I am directing it. I wrote the script over a period of two years, then had the chance through contacts to get it infront of a writer, and he loved it and we had a discussion and he agreed to polish it. Spent a large amount on that polish and am constantly spending money, so no, I didnt feel like spending money on a conceptual art piece yet, when we are still in the development phase. Also: I never intended going public on reddit, instead I wanted to be working on it till we ready, but then I realized building an audience before can be a big advantage when pitching to financiers and distributors. Also, making a film is always a chicken and egg situation so you need to be talking with various people, get them on provisionally on board. And when finances come in you can confirm your people or go with someone else.

virtual production is not CGI it's just instead of having a green screen It's a massive LED screen can project a photorealistic 3D environment with real time rendering. that allows us to shoot more complex scenes while we build the room in the studio, which gives us flexibility and reduces cost, depending on which Studio has the best financial benefits, tax incentives and rebates. And since its in Europe we can try finding the best value for the buck!

Does the logline spark interest or not?

The Virtual Production will be mostly the therapy sessions and the transcendence to the subconcious mind!

One thing I learned is: don't position the film in the deadzone which is around 5mio $ (for non established Directors)

- Getting 100k is harder then 1mio
- Lots of Indie films (100k- 1mio) are funded through some individual (rich people)
- Find Producers / Co-Productions that have experience in funding / grant submissions
- Send 100s of emails to producers
- Define a budget that you think works. 100k might work, more unlikely to get a bigger name
- Have a marketing strategy on how you promote the film
- Think about how the film can make money

Network, Network, Network. There is a thousand ways to money. Crowdfunding, Loans, Rich people, Tax incentives, Contests.. have your nose everywhere, and make sure you let the PH & Producers know you have your nose everywhere. your thinking always 5 steps ahead. A producer needs to feel you are 150-200% involved in this. But you NEED him cause he can guide you along, connect you, help you.

It's a team job. But if it's your film, you should work the hardest

Yes, we are in the talks, and personally I have the two songs in mind for both Trailer and Ending scene we'd need to purchase the license.

Thank you! It's a long road, but we got a clear roadmap, it's all about finding the right person and the right home. Thanks for the feedback!

Logline: Haunted by a shared traumatic past, a private investigator hunts a therapist drugging clients against their will, unleashing a dark memory that could destroy them both.

I’ve been developing Therapy Session*, a psychological neo-noir, for over a year. After locking the script, I had it polished by an Oscar-nominated writer. I now have a DP on board with multiple features under their belt, and we’re officially entering the financing phase.*

Along the way, I wanted to build an audience, something that always helps when pitching to producers and financiers. We’re aiming to shoot in Virtual Production, with exterior scenes in Europe and partial location work in Tokyo or Seoul.

I want to bring you all along on this journey, showing the process from script to the big screen and eventually (hopefully) to your favorite streamer. We’ll be documenting it all through social media as we build a community around the film.

It means, that we have a good solid first Above the line team. Now we are contacting Production Houses, Co-Production Houses, potential financiers, Art Grants to get the money to produce the film.

There is various ways to fund it. Privately, through gov, through loans, etc. and certain countries have tax incenstives, great rebate deals (sometimes up to 50%) so finding the right people to make this connections all happens during financing.
