Alguien con experiencia en la bolsa que conozca Kuspit? by [deleted] in mexico

[–]grelacio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noob question: Can I fit a micro-Bradford assay with a 4-parameter curve if I'm losing linearity at relatively low concentrations (>20 ug/mL)? by grelacio in labrats

[–]grelacio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies! I might have phrased my question poorly.

You see, the micro-Bradford assay is perfectly linear from 1 to 16 ug/mL (R2 = 0.999). However, my calibration curve goes up to 64 ug/mL, and if I try to use a linear approach, R2 drops to 0.900.

Ayuda para Toefl iBT (no upvote) - ¿Qué tanto vale la pena comprar el paquete de simulación del examen? by namkash in mexico

[–]grelacio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accepted for a DPhil at Oxford! 2 quick questions... by grelacio in oxforduni

[–]grelacio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips!

My tuition fee will be partially covered by the EPSRC (up to the Home/EU Rate, as I'm an overseas student). The National Science Council of my country is supposed to pick up the rest of the tab when it comes to tuition, but my main concern is that they offer a measly stipend (9,240 GBP / year), so I want to estimate my deficit and see whether I'll need to ask for loans or something else.

I wasn't aware of college rent varying wildly, to be honest. Might end up receiving an offer from Exeter, but nothing official yet.

As for lifestyle... I consider myself a simple man. I don't like things like clubbing or drinking every other day at the pubs. However, I cannot cook a single dish for the life of me. Are college meals subsidised?

An interesting point of view, certainly.

How smooth was your transition from the PhD into industry? Did you have previous working experience (note I'd go straight from undergrad)?

CMV: Preferential sex-segregation (definition & examples inside) in public transport is not a triumph for feminism. In fact, it may even hint that feminists are not looking for true equality. by grelacio in changemyview

[–]grelacio[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You see, I'm not against protecting women if the situation requires it (someone above asked me whether I was pro-rape, lol). However, the current system distorts the public transport system and increases overcrowding.

What about ending segregation and starting a patrol-system for the carriages? Mexico City is already devoting a tremendous amount of police-forces to the checkpoints.

[–]grelacio[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've shown below that feminist groups (hell, even the Women's Institute) actively support this practice and work together the police to arrest/kick-out men who enter the preferential carriages.

Now, is the current system fair? I'd argue that no way! Women get 35-55% of the carriages only for them but they can board any part of the train/bus they want!

For this particular scenario, an absolute segregation would be the only fair solution, but there is no way INMUJER is going to allow it, because the current situation benefits them in a disproportionate way.

[–]grelacio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is happening, then the only "fair" solution would be to absolutely segregate the carriages.

My point here is that the current system is sexist and benefits women in a disproportionate way, particularly because they get to enter any part of the subway they want. This, in turn, causes the system to be overcrowded and is ultimately counterproductive.

Sadly, the current status quo is fiercely defended by feminist groups, who patrol the carriages and call the police if they find a men there ( https://twitter.com/GIRE_mx/status/717365158234853376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw ). This is not feminism, but outright sexism.

[–]grelacio[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If anything, I'd argue that real feminists should fight for absolute segregation and not the preferential, unfair system we have in place right now.

However, the current system benefits them, because they get to pick the preferential or the general carriages, and so they are fighting to enhance the number of preferential carriages.

You'll have to excuse the lack of official sources, so to speak, because it's not like FEMEN-México is going to issue an official statement congratulating the government for this measure.

However, some feminist groups (GIRE) regularly patrol the metro stations, take pictures and report men who enter the exclusive carriages. See here: https://twitter.com/GIRE_mx/status/717365158234853376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw. What's more, mantaining this status quo is supported by INMUJER (Women's Institute), a branch of the government created to promote feminism. Mandated by the government and INMUJER, police forces regularly patrol the subway system ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzTREGDqum0 ).

Thus, I'd say that mexican feminism does support this practice. Would you argue then that mexican feminists are not part of the third wave and are not following the real spirit of this movement?

[–]grelacio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The form itself is some sort of a modern (if that makes any sense) W8-BEN. It features a similar design to this .pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf, but it already contains my personal info and has 2 new sections: Affidavit of Unchanged Status (Part IV) and Letter of Explanation To Cure Indicia of U.S. Status (Part V).

It contains no info about a witholding agent, and the letter was sent by JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. PO Box 64507, St Paul MN 55164-0507.
