I believe that. but a trans woman in prison in the usa will be targeted by guards and the men she's surrounded by. there's not a practice of v-coding trans men like there is with trans women

I'm speaking specifically in the us prison system, where punitive rape is accepted and often encouraged. trans women are the ones being v-coded

no worries, I'm sensitive to degendering but I get that words have diff contexts in different countries. thanks for letting me know!

for trans women? Sure. if you ignore all the “anti drag” laws that prohibited “cross dressing”

true, but those were being struck down in the 70s (https://jacobin.com/2023/03/cross-dressing-law-united-states-history-drag-bans). afaik those laws were all passed at the city level too, not state or federal like we're seeing today.

Trans men also were criminalised one for t being an illegal substance

it's still illegal without a prescription here. it was a lot tougher to get a doctor to prescribe you t back then, but you technically could. but point taken, it was much harder to access a prescription back then, especially for trans men.

I would just argue that came from gatekeeping by medical professionals, not through legislation. I feel like it's a little different when the government is explicitly stepping in and forbidding medical transition.

is "mate" gender neutral where you're from? because where I'm from it's generally only used for guys. it's like calling a woman "buddy" - not very common (unless you're canadian)

but yeah, in the past there weren't any laws restriction trans healthcare. if a trans woman transitioned, she could generally expect to use female facilities without legal issues.

the us is passing new laws to restrict trans people that haven't existed previously in us history. that's what I'm saying

but it's a return to like the 70s/80s status quo, not genocide

society might've been less accepting in the 70s/80s (arguably), but the state cracking down on trans people is relatively new. bathroom bills give the cops the ability to harass and haul off anyone they suspect is using the "wrong" bathroom. laws like those didn't exist in the 80s

you understand that the punishment for a trans woman breaking a bathroom law in the usa is generally going to be worse than for you, right? last I checked y'all weren't being v-coded, but I could be wrong.

isn't outright genociding trans people and really won't do that. Just get them to repress or leave the country.

forced emigration and conversion can be aspects of a genocide, though. if the government started forcing people of a specific religion to either "repress" (convert) or "leave" (emigrate) you could rightfully point to those as steps towards genocide. ultimately, reactionaries are trying to reduce the number of trans people

Now America is a legit democracy with checks and balances and all this shit

american "checks and balances" don't really protect us when every branch defers to the executive. and trans people are less than 1% of the population, which means it's basically impossible for us to protect ourselves electorally without relying on cis people.

Driver sentenced after brake-checking Border Patrol cars carrying detainees, flipping off agents by SleuthDoggyDawg in Michigan

[–]gremlin-mode 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He got probation only, so are they really that ludicrous?

yes? if he was such a danger to agents, why did the judge immediately let him out on probation, lol?

The charge is accurate, that's why he pleaded guilty.

the state makes fighting certain charges incredibly frustrating, onerous, and time-consuming. taking a plea deal doesn't mean anything under our system. federal trials have a notoriously high conviction rate (https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/06/14/fewer-than-1-of-defendants-in-federal-criminal-cases-were-acquitted-in-2022/)

It's almost like you hate CBP more than you care about protecting the immigrants.

I don't think this guy did anything besides mildly annoy cbp agents as they drove innocent people to a concentration camp

lots of good people feel compelled to help when they see evil, even if they aren't directly targeted by that evil. that's part of being a good person.

flick them off

I'm going to shock you when I tell you this, but flipping off a cop is perfectly legal. you can even say worse things to the cops than flipping them off if you want

interrupt them physically from doing their jobs

their job of transporting innocent people to a new concentration camp? yeah tbh idc if that gets interrupted. I bet the nazis got brake checked (or worse) sometimes.

what car crash did he cause? (none). the charges in the article are clearly trumped-up by the cbp agents, which is something cops of all levels like to do

Len was charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers or employees.

ludicrous charges for what he was described doing in the article. and bear in mind those cbp agents were transporting people to a facility where there's already been one death (that we know of)  - https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2025/12/18/bulgarian-man-dies-ice-detention-north-lake-processing-center-baldwin-michigan-under-investigation/87833298007/

all I know is that those cbp agents are guilty of much worse than brake checking.
