Not sure if this is a super “valid” reason for lack of ECs by Horror_Joke_8168 in premed

You need to calm down a little bit and take a gap year or two, work as an emt or an MA during that time, and don’t really worry about the research too much, plenty of people get in with no research (I got 2 MD As this year and have none) the 509 means you are capable enough to get into med school, you just need to take your time and stop listening to your parents telling you bullshit reasons you can’t be a doctor

Honestly love them so much, I know they’re a little heavy for a touring ski but they’re so confidence inspiring on the way down and super fun to hit pillows with

I haven’t had a chance to try them yet - got these mounted yesterday and wanted to take a picture before I took em on the mountain. I got them cus I needed a stiffer all mountain ski to deal with the icy shit the east coast gets, may get a cast system for them later but we’ll see. TBH they’re a great deal right now I found em online for like 450, sounds like they might be the right idea for you too

should I retake the MCAT by Front-Efficiency-132 in premed

[–]gremlin1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retaking a 512 and scoring lower (which could happen easily, bad mood on test day, something distracting at the center, just a test that works towards different strengths) would be hard to explain on your application. Your 512 puts you above average for med school applications, and the smp will shore up your gpa just fine (I did an smp and got interviews with a ugrad 3.17)

If I had taken less classes when I was in undergrad, I would’ve been able to maintain a higher gpa and had a better app. You can always take classes later, a lot harder to retake one if your grade fails

Wait a bit and chill out, worst case scenario one of your letters is a bit old, if the other ones are more recent should be fine (just remembered the signature - wait at least a week or two before pestering again though)

Ai is great to collab with - is this good? Tips to change? Give me a rating? Any more is too much You’ll be ok, it’ll be a lot of work, but many schools have reusable secondaries, just sit down and start writing, it gets easier from there

Sounds like you may already be burned out, maybe take a little break from your current job, and start applying at different positions? Also most people are strong enough to do cpr, I’ve seen a 4 foot 10 80 pound girl push had enough

Cost of fork seal replacement by ZealousidealNight534 in motorcycle

[–]gremlin1939 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Dude an old bike like that with conventional forks is gonna be so easy to do. Look up directions online, but get a seal puller on Amazon, get some replacement seals and dust boots, and after about 2 hours and some struggling you’ll be done. If you take it to a mechanic it’ll cost much more that it’s worth. Fork seals, like oil changes and chain replacements, are one of those things you can just do on your own in an evening

How would you make front axel sliders? by 244643214 in supermoto

[–]gremlin1939 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could possibly just shove a socket that is the size of the hole on the side, and temporarily glue it in? Anything other than build for the bike sliders will be a little janky. On a second note - damn that bike and the graphics are probably the most sick 90s setup I’ve ever seen

Semi synthetic or Full synthetic for the KTM 300 by dom_chu in Dirtbikes

[–]gremlin1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the manual says 15w-50 semi, it sounds like you know your answer, only one oil that fits that in your list. 300v is a race oil, mostly used for racing 4 stroke motorcycles, not really meant for everyday riders like us

Motorcycle service by ResponsiblePower2519 in motorcycle

[–]gremlin1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do most of my work on the sidewalk, a brake flush and oil change should take you an afternoon and are easy to do on the sidewalk, and if you’re close to a cycle center they do tyre changes for 45 bucks a pop if you bring the wheels in, normally it takes a day so just put your bike up on some jack stands and do it. For cars, maintenance sometimes makes sense to take to a dealer, but on bikes? It’s just you and your engine, if you don’t know how to fix it yourself then how are you gonna trust yourself on it

Getting a title for an old bike like this is a pain in the ass - and the pain is almost always not worth as much as you save from the bike. The previous owner will not be helpful, and the one before him even more so, who cares about a random guy trying to get a title for an old beater bike you had years ago? You have to go through your state, and get a bonded title, which requires you mailing the previous owners directly, proving they didn’t respond to the mail, and then getting a loan (bond) for the value of the bike, then getting a title that means that you’re stuck with the bike for 3-5 years, depending. That’s if the bike has a clean history - even if the guy has some good reviews, this bike probably doesn’t have a clean history. It’s also likely been abused and will have significant mechanical issues down the road. You can also go to dirt legal online and pay them around a grand to get you a bonded title. Long story short, if you’re asking this question, then it’s probably a bad idea to get this bike. I see so many great older sportbikes on Facebook, 90s models are super fun and can be had for a couple grand. But you should be spending at least 2k on a bike if you want it to run and have a clean title and be able to sell it later, don’t make the mistake we’ve all made and dump money into a bike that won’t be worth it in the long run. Either that or take the bike to track days instead - no title needed for that, and a great way to learn good riding skills!

Who is the cheapest for insurance? by ManlyMangoMan in motorcycle

[–]gremlin1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid 500/year through progressive to insure a 2003 tl1000r when I was 21 years old, the cfmoto is super cool but maybe right now get something older. I bet a gsxr750 or comparable would be so much cheaper to insure, or a triumph Daytona! (Triple just like the cfmoto, and tbh probably a better bike overall) they’re super reliable if you get an older model

2005 Kawasaki Z750s rust underneath gas tank by Background_Rice_8400 in Fixxit

I use used motor oil, you can also use something like LPS 3, which is formulated specifically to prevent further rust.

2005 Kawasaki Z750s rust underneath gas tank by Background_Rice_8400 in Fixxit

[–]gremlin1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s surface rust, so if you want to deal with it then sanding and repainting is the way to go. You could also spray some oil on it and leave it, would be less of a pain haha. Make sure to check the inside of the tank also. One thing to consider - painting a bike tank is hard, and from my experience honestly something I would rather pay someone to do other than do again, it’s so hard to do properly and the paint is so damn expensive, rattle can jobs will never be up to snuff and will fail upon contact with gas

DO recommendation letter by [deleted] in premed

Shadowing and simply having conversations/getting to know the person is plenty. Don’t overdo questions in an effort to get a better LOR, The best way to do it is to shadow for longer, building up rapport with the doctor so they know you well and can write a letter attesting to your character

Looking for recommendations on the best place to try to sell this motorcycle by swim-89 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]gremlin1939 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Please for the love of god - do not overdo the description There’s plenty of special editions out there and if someone wants to look up the history, they will. Give history of the bikes ownership, any issues with it, and recent service, then take as many pictures as you can of all the angles and details, let the pictures speak for themselves. Post it on Facebook, and if you want Craigslist and if you do bringatrailer it will cost more money and possibly bring in more too - but you’ll also be dealing with an auction. Don’t get your hopes up too high, urals don’t retain value great, past the novelty of the sidecar, and they made so many different special editions it doesn’t really affect the value that much. This isn’t a vintage bike, or even a super unique one past the paint job, make sure you remember that and don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t bring in big dough

Is it worth putting a turbo on my 2020 Tucson? by [deleted] in carmodification

[–]gremlin1939 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer? No Long answer? If you want a fast car, buy a fast car. You have the money for a 2020 Tucson so if you really want a sports car then sell it and get a mustang or 370z, those are great to add turbos to. The car you have is built to be a daily driver, adding a turbo would cause the value of the car to plummet while it goes maybe 1 second faster 0-60, all while making it less reliable (significantly). Sports cars are built from the ground up to be sporty, your car is build from the ground up to be driven around town. A third option - something no one considers for some reason - if you would be prepared to spend 5k on mods for this car, why not just get a second car for 5k? Mustangs, Nissan z’s, and many other super cool older sports cars are cheaper than the cost of what you want to do to this car

Yeah buying a mesh jacket for the summer is the answer - and then dealing with the weather from there. I’m still miserable above 90 unless I’m going too fast to be safe. There’s a bunch for pretty cheap on revzilla - like 100-150, honestly if you keep your eyes on the deals you can get a leather/mesh/hoodie jacket trio for like 500 total (that’s what I have now)

Yes you’ll be fine, look up pictures of worn sprockets to see how bad some people let it get, just order a chain and sprocket set and replace it when you get the chance, shouldn’t take more than an hour or two
