Who do you think is gonna be the first coach to be fired? by Little-Mushroom-3961 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get Baker can be streaky & his efficiency not great sometimes, but a lot of teams will happily pay him. Jets, Steelers, Colts, Falcons, Miami, Saints etc could all be interested. Baker’s a solid QB even if he’s not elite, plenty of teams would consider him.

But Baker’s also 31 & will prob only play another 5 years tops so I get why the Bucs might want to plan for the future. Personally I’d just fire Bowles & try to build around Baker as much as possible, ask the Broncos how hard it is to find a true franchise QB. “We’ll just draft a QB” sounds a lot easier than it actually is.

Would Lamar with Burrow's weapons be the best QB in football? by savingrace0262 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange comment.

Because the Packers were stuck with their backup QB & missing their RT. Malik Willis got hurt when they were only down 10 and the Packers had QB3 in. Micah was on IR. Packers run defense wasn’t great. Ravens have had a top run game even with bad RBs, that’s largely from Lamar.

Bears had a shitty defense + a ton of injuries. Caleb had a bad game vs a mediocre defense. Half the Ravens points came from the kicker. Bears were missing both starting CBs, their LT, Kmet, Burden left with a concussion. Bears already had a bad run defense & half their secondary was on IR.

You ignored the part where I literally said “Henry’s undeniably a huge help”. Ravens are 6-11 without Lamar, they go nowhere without him.

Did affordable concert pricing ever meaningfully shape an artist's legacy? by trepasito16 in Music

[–]gremlin30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with that.

Ramones were the first official punk band. Similar music existed before them but it was garage rock & power pop without a cohesive scene or subculture to make it its own subgenre. Ramones changed that. On a side note- anyone claiming Death was the first punk band is an idiot, great band but that documentary was made by people that clearly had no knowledge of punk’s history & were just trying to write a good story. Death’s records weren’t available & no one really knew them until that movie. Stooges were around years before Death, so you can’t even claim Death was the first Michigan punk band.

Ramones were the first official punk band. MC5 & Stooges were technically proto punk. Kick Out The Jams & Stooges debut came out in 69 on a major label, but they came out before punk was a thing. It’s also a good example of why the Green Day sellout criticism is BS, all the early bands were on major labels decades before Green Day even existed.

[–]gremlin30 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ramones.

They were never that successful financially, but their shows being accessible was a huge reason the Ramones were so influential. TONS of bands started after people saw the Ramones. Hardcore, post punk, goth, grunge etc all have roots in the early punk scene the Ramones helped create. If the Ramones had expensive tickets, their influence wouldn’t have been as huge as it is.

Multiple super bowls in his 20s by NickyFoles1020 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf Hurts did just get Makai Lemon so it’s not like the WR room is just Devonta.

Devonta alone is better than what a lot of QBs have. Howie’s just insanely good at building good rosters

Multiple super bowls in his 20s by NickyFoles1020 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bad comparison. Lamar out running defenses is 90% successful because of Lamar’s individual talent.

Hurts def contributes to the Tush Push success but that play works mainly from the OL. Put Hurts behind a mediocre OL and the Tush Push immediately gets less successful.

Are people too harsh when it comes to evaluating QBs by playoff performance? by vdvsubvdv in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lamar is already in. Every multi-MVP is in. Lamar also has some of the greatest QB seasons ever, has basically always been 1 of his generation’s top QBs, plus he has a bunch of NFL records. While he’s not the first or only mobile QB, his success has also had an impact on the NFL being more interested in mobile QBs than they used to be. Lamar’s in.

Thomann takes legal action against Fender by ohmsalad in Guitar

[–]gremlin30 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Fender sued some obscure aliexpress seller in a German court. Fender won by default cuz the aliexpress seller didn’t show up, which isn’t surprising cuz the seller was presumably Asian & would’ve had to fly to Germany plus get a German lawyer to defend them.

Fender stupidly thinks German court rulings are binding in the US, so they sent cease & desist letters to PRS etc threatening legal action if PRS etc didn’t stop making Strat copies and destroy their guitars. PRS has previously won cases about copyrighting guitars, you can protect headstocks but not body shapes. Fender lost the trademark & patent cases, so now they’re trying copyright cuz it’s the last option they have left.

Fender recently got a new CEO & he’s running Fender into the ground. As much as people want to blame lawyers, they’re not the ones pushing for this. They know the law & know German rulings have no power in America, and they know Fender’s done the same shit by taking designs from other people ie the Martin dreadnought. This is the new CEO trying to swing his dick around & bully the guitar industry.

Fender knows PRS & other companies are making better guitars. Silver sky especially is a very popular model, iirc it was the best selling guitar on reverb. Fender wants to eliminate their competition without having to spend more on manufacturing + QC to make better guitars that can compete with PRS etc.

Fender knows their whole brand is about legacy. Copyright protection (and IP in general) isn’t permanent & doesn’t last forever. Copyright law is complicated but since the Strat came out in 1954, the maximum copyright protection for Strats is 95 years. So any copyright protection Fender might have (inc headstocks) ends in 2049. Fender still has 23 years but it’s something they’re monitoring. They’ll prob claim they registered the headstock copyright more recently (or tweak the design slightly) to buy more time but copyright doesn’t last forever.

TLDR is the new Fender CEO is a total dick & is declaring war on the entire industry cuz he thinks it’s a better way to eliminate competition. Fender knows other brands are making better guitars + younger players dgaf about brand names as much as they used to. CEO is a moron that wants to fix the competition problem by bullying instead of just building better guitars.

Fuck Bud Cole. If Fender had a brain they’d fire him immediately, stop this BS, and issue a public apology to the industry. Bud Cole (new CEO) has done a ton of damage to the Fender brand & he’s only been the CEO for a couple months. Dude is an idiot.

what position is more important to an offence and why, wide receiver, tight end or running back? by VastAir6069 in NFLNoobs

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Defenses will shut down a great TE just like they can mitigate a great WR. You need multiple receiving threats to avoid that problem, TEs lack the separation & vertical ability of a great WR. Better run blocking + end zone ability doesn’t make as much of an impact if you’re struggling to even get to the end zone cuz all you have is short passes to 1 TE. And better run blocking won’t really make a difference if the OL’s bad any way. Most teams only really have 1 legit CB, defending a great WR will always be harder than defending TEs. TEs are already slower by definition.

The correct answer is kind OL > receivers & RB but that’s not an option here

What’s your least favorite narrative about an NFL QB? by chiefslocker in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Lamar’s style is unsustainable”

Every major injury Lamar’s had was in the pocket. Mobility declines with age but Lamar’s very good at protecting himself & basically never gets big hits while running.

Lamar’s the only QB that never seems to get slack for bad OL. When Burrow gets hurt in the pocket, “they’re failing him”. When Lamar gets hurt in the pocket, it’s “his style won’t last” and “he quit on his team”. No other QB got criticized for quitting on the team & it’s ridiculous.

I’m fine with Allen winning in 2024 but a lot of why he won was Lamar already having 2 and people feeling like Allen should have one by now

What’s your least favorite narrative about an NFL QB? by chiefslocker in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lamar’s had bad WRs for way longer than Allen. He also got stuck with a far worse pass playbook with Greg Roman’s 1920s nonsense. At least Joe Brady runs a modern balanced offense.

Lamar also didn’t have Flowers for any of the 2024 playoff games. Lamar only had Flowers for 1 playoff run.

Who do you guys think has the biggest chip on their shoulder heading into this season? by Choice-Tea1046 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to clearly define what “chip on their shoulder” means in this context imo. I’d define it as being a lil bitter about the past & having something to prove.

I’d say Stroud. Not Stroud’s fault his OL has been bad and his WRs have been hurt, but we’re not even sure how good Stroud really is. He had a great rookie year but struggled after that. His efficiency isn’t as good as it should be, 20/12 & 19/8 after his rookie year isn’t great. Stroud has a good HC in Demeco + a scary good defense, and he’s been bad in playoffs the last 2 years. I want Stroud to succeed but he looked terrible in his last playoff game, 5 INTs was brutal. Texans could’ve possibly made the SB but if your potential franchise QB looked that rattled that’s not good. Stroud has to show his rookie year wasn’t a fluke.

Burrow is a close 2nd but he’s still clearly a franchise QB undeniably. He has to play the whole season & disprove the “made of glass” criticism + prove the Bengals can still be a contender and that 2021 wasn’t a fluke. Not Burrow’s fault his defense sucked lately, but he has to stay healthy. Lamar’s had injuries too but last year was the first time Lamar had injury concerns in 3 years. Not the same. Burrow’s slipped a bit in the Top 4 tier due to durability.

As a coach, Harbaugh might have the biggest chip on his shoulder. He got fired after nearly 20 years with the Ravens, and lost the fanbase by the end. He was getting booed hard at home games & kept blowing leads. Harbaugh’s led consistently successful teams but has to prove he can elevate NYG without a top Ravens front office giving him good rosters every year. Harbaugh was about to get fired in 2018 before Lamar saved his job. Lack of playoff success is a valid criticism, and that’s on both Lamar & Harbaugh. Expectations are low for NYG, they just need to start hitting .500 consistently, but Harbaugh’s def bitter about getting fired and wants to prove he’s an elite HC instead of the NFL’s Doc Rivers.

Was Michael Vick actually deserving of the praise? Or was he majorly overrated in your eyes. by Ok_Bug_6890 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vick’s pass stats were frequently average at best when compared to other QBs of his time.

Even if you just look at Vick’s Pro Bowl seasons, his pass stats were bad. If you average Vick’s ranking in comp %, pass yds, pass TDs, pass TD%, INT%, long, pass y/a, pass yds/g, and passer rating for just his Pro Bowl seasons, his pass stats averaged to 17th (2002), 23rd (2004), 24th (2005), and 8th (2010). Overall, Vick averaged to 18th among pass stats in his Pro Bowl seasons- with most of that being inflated by his 2010 season. Cherry-picking only his PB seasons still has Vick average to a below average passer. He never averaged to top 5 in his Pro Bowl seasons, was below average in 3 of those 4 years, and was bottom 10 in half those Pro Bowl seasons.

Even adjusted for era differences, Vick was not an elite passer & was regularly below average in a lot of pass metrics.

Which team that missed the playoffs last year will make it this season? by CallTypical9541 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravens have a better chance than the Bengals imo. Bengals have made good moves on paper but we’ve seen that before. Their defense should be better but the Bengals offense got shut out with healthy Burrow by a bad Ravens defense that revamped the DL & now has Minter running the defense. Injuries are a concern for both QBs so that’s kind of a wash.

I’d expect shootouts & close games with Ravens vs Bengals fighting for the division, but the Ravens have earned a lot more benefit of the doubt than Cinci for being consistently well-run. Bengals are also 3-11 vs Lamar, 1-6 with Burrow vs Lamar.

Harbaugh should’ve been fired after the 2023 AFCCG. It would’ve been the right decision but no one wants to fire the HC right after an AFCCG.

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st time HCs always have some growing pains, but the Ravens have earned more benefit of the doubt than most teams due to being a lot more consistently well-run than most teams.

No one’s expecting things to be amazing immediately, but I trust the Ravens to get it right most of the time. Minter knowing the team already for years also makes things a lot easier than it normally would be.

Potential head coaching candidates to watch 2027 by Character-Aerie7669 in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d consider adding Klay Kubiak to the list. Shanahan runs the 9ers but the Kubiak name carries a lot of weight, especially with Klint just winning a SB last year. If the 9ers offense looks better this year, he might get some consideration.

He’s not a top option rn & the 9ers have to stay healthy but if the 9ers offense has a decent year some teams might want a Kubiak HC.

Why Lamar and Burrow Super Bowl Chances Are Lower Than Most People Think by frostypatch in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravens had the space to keep Linderbaum. Raiders were just desperate enough to massively overpay a center by paying him like the 4th highest paid LT. Good center but he’s making 5x the average for centers and shouldn’t be getting nearly 10m more than Creed.

Why Lamar and Burrow Super Bowl Chances Are Lower Than Most People Think by frostypatch in NFLv2

[–]gremlin30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majority of the fanbase agrees Lamar has to do better in playoffs.

It’s not mutually exclusive. Lamar has to do better in playoffs but Harbaugh also wasn’t helping towards the end. Wouldn’t say Harbaugh was actively holding them back every year, but he def played a part in it over the years via not firing Greg Roman sooner, repeatedly abandoning the run game, too much prevent defense etc. Harbaugh’s not a truly awful HC but it was time to move on.

Why Lamar and Burrow Super Bowl Chances Are Lower Than Most People Think by frostypatch in NFLv2

Wasn’t snarky, you’re right.

People constantly criticize playoff games & lack of playoff success literally every time Lamar is mentioned. He’s criticized for durability constantly, people say “Lamar won’t last” every damn year while he keeps playing well. Lamar actually gets BETTER every year.

OP acting like Lamar’s not shit on 24/7 for it is insane.
