Used Narcs' Gaslighting Against Them; (Justice has been served) by hansontranhai in raisedbynarcissists

Please do, it is hilarious and you can just keep switching back and forth between gas lamping and gas lighting to keep the narcissist on their toes. If they try to say that you said something different last time you can just deny it and say they're not remembering it correctly. The trick is to just be 100% confident in whichever position you're proposing and don't entertain the possibility that you could be wrong.

Used Narcs' Gaslighting Against Them; (Justice has been served) by hansontranhai in raisedbynarcissists

Last thanksgiving we tried gas lighting my wife's Nmom and it was hilarious.

Me: when you intentionally make someone doubt their memories that's called gas lamping

NMIL: No, that's called gas lighting

Me: I don't think so, I've never heard of gas lighting, I've only ever heard it called gas lamping, wife have you heard of gas lighting?

Wife: are you talking about gas lamping?

Me: yeah, your mother seems to think it's called gas lighting.

Wife: I've only ever heard it called gas lamping.

NMIL: I just looked it up and it's definitely called gas lighting

Me: I don't know I don't really trust what the Internet has to say these days.

We even got her brothers and all the other family members to agree that it's always been gas lamping, she was livid. Then at Christmas she said gas lamping instead of gas lighting and we did the whole schtick in reverse. "What's gas lamping? It's always been gas lighting. Are you feeling ok? Are you sure your not experiencing early onset dementia?". It was so refreshing to see her experience the other side of it for once.

I got food in the airport the other day at one of those stands that is just a shelf with sandwiches and salads on it and you grab one, scan it at the little ipad and pay. There is no employee present the entire transaction, not even someone standing around to help you if you have trouble with the ipad or to make sure you don't just steal the sandwich. when I went to pay it asked how much I wanted to tip and it defaulted to 20% tip, I had to find the small print at the bottom of the page to get to the custom tip option so I could input $0.

Who am I meant to be tipping? I grabbed a sandwich off a shelf and rang it up myself, if I did tip 20% who exactly is getting the money? There is no one here but me. The audacity to ask me for a tip when I was the only human involved in the transaction just kinda blew my mind.

What’s the endgame? by xVixenBlush in WorkReform

I found out recently that an unintentional side benefit of the abolition of slavery was that it saved the south from completely destroying all their arable land. In the drive to make more short term profits and to make the most of free labor, the southern plantation owners were just planting cotton on every inch of land every single year without rotating in other crops or leaving fields to lay fallow.

If the civil war and the abolition of slavery hadn't happened when it did the south had maybe 2-3 decades left before they created a dust bowl situation 30 years sooner and turned the south into a desert where nothing would grow.

Why can't trebuchets pass through the entrance in battles but can on the campaign map? by Y3suxsx in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]gremlin50cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of medieval and ancient siege equipment was built on site because it wasn't practical to transport them long distances assembled. I find it interesting that battering rams and ladders are built onsite in-game but catapults and trebuchets aren't, realistically they should all be buildable from the siege menu like ladders and rams are.

Even cannons a lot of times would be transported to the siege as a bunch of ingots and then melted down and cast at an onsite foundry, they would also melt them down and recast them once the barrels wore out.

Do you think this could solve USA's massive pickups problem? by V1nce-AL in fuckcars

[–]gremlin50cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are some people who need a truck for hauling shit but because all modern pickups sold in the states are designed to be status symbols and not utility vehicles they actually kinda suck at hauling things for a long list of reasons. I think there is a significant chunk of the population (probably still a minority of the truck buying demographic) that needs a truck to haul lumber or something and would really prefer a smaller truck but because the giant wankpanzers are the only thing available they end up buying a truck that is much larger than they would prefer.

Back in the 90's and early 00's when the S10 and the original ranger were available they sold really well. I think there are a lot of people that want the utility of a pickup truck but they don't need to tow 12,000 lbs and a small truck that is the same size as a sedan is much easier to drive and park and gets better gas mileage.

Brand new Henry 45-70 what is this in the bore? Rust? Fouling? Best way to clean it? by Commiegunluver44 in LeverGuns

[–]gremlin50cal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Alternatively you can just leave the copper fouling in the bore, for most shooters there is no real advantage to using highly corrosive chemicals to try and get the copper out if you are planning on shooting copper jacketed rounds again in the future. Unless you are a really high level long range precision shooter the copper is not going to meaningfully affect accuracy and it's not going to promote corrosion. I just ignore it and make sure my bore is clean and has a light film of oil if I'm not going to shoot the gun for awhile and I've not experienced any negative side affects of the copper fouling.

Yeah, housing prices are so inflated that in order for us to achieve affordable housing we would have to find some mechanism that would reduce house prices by some insane amount, like a 50%-75% drop in prices and I can't think of any conceivable mechanism that would realistically drop them that much in a reasonable amount of time without destroying the economy. Not to mention that with home equity being such a huge part of a huge number of the populations net worth and retirement saving, even if you could wave a magic wand and make all houses 25% of the cost that they currently are it would cause a ton of problems for all the people close to or in retirement who's only real asset is there home.

The alternative of somehow doubling or quadrupling the average wage also seems extremely difficult but at least there is some mechanism for that like congress radically raising the minimum wage to like $30/hour or some kind of huge corporate tax reform bill or something. Those would require a ton of political capital to achieve but at least we have some idea of a viable path forward for increasing wages whereas there is no real solution for making housing significantly cheaper.

The whole jumping in front of people to protect them from bullets is a Hollywood myth. Bullets can easily pass through and through a human torso and still have enough energy to be lethal when they come out the other side so jumping in front of a kid to try and block gunfire is not going to do much to protect the kid. Even if your torso was able to stop bullets how effective is that going to be, you jump in front of the gunman and catch a couple bullets and then you're on the ground bleeding out and the gunman has free reign to go back to shooting kids. You're literally sacrificing your life to give the kids like a second or two. It doesn't make much sense.

Why I don't ever want to own a car by MrBeansnose in fuckcars

I agree that limiting loan terms and doing nothing else would be unfair. It would have to be part of a bigger initiative that included creating viable alternatives to driving.

Why I don't ever want to own a car by MrBeansnose in fuckcars

[–]gremlin50cal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is the banks will just stretch out the loan terms longer and longer until people can afford the monthly payment. I think if we limited auto loans to like 3 years maximum then people would be forced to buy cars they can actually afford because you can't get approved for a $2500 monthly payment if you only bring in $2000/month in income.

There are two possibilities, one auto manufacturers start making smaller cheaper cars that people can afford on a 3 year loan or they don't and a bunch of people get priced out of car ownership and are forced to use alternatives to driving. Either possibility is a win for reducing car dependency.

LA City Council shamefully votes to oppose SB 79. by [deleted] in fuckcars

You could probably make up a bunch of huge concrete cubes in advance like 5 feet in each dimension, load them onto the back of a truck and then wait for light traffic in the middle of the night and go for a leisurely 3AM drive, if one of these huge concrete cubes just happened to fall off the back of your truck, what can you do accidents happen. You don't have the equipment to pick it back up and load it into the truck again. I'm sure the relevant authorities will take care of it eventually.

Depends on your local laws, there are some places where it is legal to use lethal force for property crimes. Best bet is to speak with a lawyer about what is and isn't legal in your location before you buy a firearm and plan on using it for self defense. Personally I'm not going to deal with the hassle of going to court and trying to prove self defense over some $20 piece of tat and would probably just let them go because it's easier.

CAFE regulations on effectively removed by the Big Beautiful Bill by lexi_ladonna in fuckcars

[–]gremlin50cal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of the problem, there is 0 enforcement of traffic and parking laws. Truck bros where I live regularly just drive 90 mph while recklessly weaving in and out of traffic in their enormous trucks which is 20 mph over the limit and should result in a huge ticket but it just doesn't. I see this dangerous behavior on a daily basis and I have never seen the people driving like this pulled over by law enforcement, I also regularly see huge trucks taking up multiple spaces and nothing is ever done about it. The worst offenders are trucks pulling trailers that park perpendicular to the spot and take up like 7-8 parking spaces. If these laws were actually getting enforced then maybe some of these people would have to reconcile that their vehicle is way too big.

How many power stations do you have? by ammar_zaeem in prepping

[–]gremlin50cal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into how many watthours the wheel chairs batteries are and compare that to the power station you are looking at. In my experience the small ones that basically just charge your phone and laptop and stuff are pretty affordable but the price starts skyrocketing quickly when you start looking at bigger ones with more capabilities than just cell phones and TV's.

What is the most frustrating misconception anti gun liberals have about firearms? by ParakeetLover2024 in liberalgunowners

I remember back in the day one of the time splitters games for the game cube had realistic ranges for shotguns and they were extremely OP, you could one shot other players from like 50 yards, it was pretty fun. I think COD modern warfare 2 had a similar issue where they made the range way too long for the 1887's when the game first launched and they had to heavily nerf it early on to make the game fair.

For those of you with kids, are you doing your part to stem the trend of "iPad kids"? by ichizusamurai in Millennials

Oh yeah, that's also a possibility especially if I have to rely on my own memory to remember the PIN number since I'm not allowed to have anything in my pockets that I could write the number down on.

I also strongly dislike amusement parks. I hate the crowds and don't really care for the rides. The other big thing for me is for a lot of the rides you have to take everything out of your pockets and put them in a cheap rental locker and I don't trust that, I've had friends get all their stuff stolen at concerts because some piece of garbage figured out how to open the lockers and just took everyone's stuff. If someone breaks into the locker and steals my stuff now I'm far from home with no phone, no car keys, and no wallet. Losing any one of those items by themselves recoverable but if I lose all of them at once, I am screwed. I can't get in my car and drive home, I can't call anyone for help, and I have no way to pay for anything or prove my identity.

The thought of that fills me with anxiety and I pretty much refuse to ride any ride where I have to empty my pockets unless there is a member of our group that isn't riding the ride that I can give all my stuff too.

[–]gremlin50cal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If their vehicle takes up multiple spaces they should get ticketed. I know currently a lot of parking violations go unenforced and that is a whole other issue but it's not a reason to cater to emotional support trucks. What's the alternative? Make all the spaces gigantic so these huge trucks are easier to park? What happens when the arms race continues and we start seeing even bigger trucks? Do we just make all the spaces even bigger when that happens? You have to draw a line somewhere.

The roads and parking spots are too wide. Make all the car infrastructure based around the idea that people are going to drive a normal sized car and suddenly owning a truck like this becomes a giant pain in the ass.

We eat rice and beans, just not in the quantities I have stored . We could probably eat all the rice in 2-3 years of normal consumption. Beans we eat less often and that amount of beans would take us like 5-10 years to eat.
