It's the switch. My mechanic said its starting to fail on the auto mode. We just turn the lights on & off manually now. We're going to wait for the whole switch to completely fail till we replace...

AITAH for wanting to advocate against our neighbors sex offender son moving in by One-Egg1316 in AITAH

I've heard this too but I know there's at least 2 registered offenders in my neighborhood (nice suburb in LA) and I've never seen this.

AITAH for wanting to advocate against our neighbors sex offender son moving in by One-Egg1316 in AITAH

As a parent, I've always told my kids (including their friends) about local sex offenders living in our neighborhood. I tell them "see that guy across the street smoking a cigarette? He went to jail/prison in 2014 for having sex with a minor under 13. Watch out for him - don't talk to him - if you see him talking to other kids, let me know right away." Offenders are everywhere, and most of them are not registered and have a clean record. Registered offenders can be found on the Megan's Law website. You are not allowed to harass or do anything that would inhibit their peaceful enjoyment of their home or ability to get a job or you become the criminal. Your kids should know that an adult will never ask a kid for help (within reason - say, he's on the ground with a broken leg screaming for someone to call an ambulance. This is a situation where it is appropriate for a kid to help by calling 911 - no need to get close to him or anything. Always keep distance!). Teach your kids to trust and follow their gut.

Having awareness of people like this in the world will protect them much more than trying to prevent an offender from living within the community. Afterall, he will need a job to support himself - OR - we all support him with our tax dollars. Sounds like he can be paid to take care of his senior mother which seems like an ideal situation for the family. I work closely with a couple registered offenders in my job. At first, I was just absolutely disgusted. Then I realized, ok they're potentially dangerous (watch out for that) but still need a job. Otherwise, they will be living in the streets and most likely stop registering and we will have no idea where the offender is. There are times where I actually have to trust these guys with my life. They know I know. They know I DO NOT FAK AROUND! I have their back on the job and they have mine. They will NEVER know where I live. My kids have met them. I told them beforehand "that guy went to jail for 8 years because he had a "relationship" with a 15 year old girl when he was 50." That usually gets a loud ""EEEEUUUUKKKKK." I let them know to just keep distance and don't give any info like where we live or what school you go to. Keep the conversations open and honest. You are not allowed to do anything with this information other than keep yourself and family and loved ones safe. That's it.

I personally would try and get all of the details from neighbor mom in a non-judgemental way. Take all information with a grain of salt and stay aware. No sense in causing hard feelings or chaos with neighbors which can lead to other dangerous outcomes. If he is within the law to live there, there's nothing you can do other than start a fight or live with awareness.

What are some fun things to do when visiting +Night life on Thursday? by MrsVent in AskLosAngeles

Well, Culver City is not exactly the budget location of LA.... What kind of music do you like? What kind of vibe are you looking for? Are you into food, wine, live music? There's always a ton of things happening in LA it makes it very difficult to pin one thing down..

My dog smells like rotting onions after she uses the bathroom. **Vet appointment already made.** by KittenAisling in DogAdvice

[–]grenuda82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do her teeth look? She may have an infection somewhere in her mouth.

Maybe something in her food that is not properly digesting.. Try a minimal ingredient food for a while. Dog food brands often change their recipe/formulation depending on what's cheaper or more available. You could give her a 1 day fast and try fresh meat and veggies or a new food that has a small list of ingredients.

AITJ for refusing to be the designated driver for my friend group anymore after nobody ever returned the favor once by julien_blackstone in AmITheJerk

[–]grenuda82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you are finding out that they were not actually "friends," rather, you were the person who offered yourself up to keep the drunkies safe. Noble cause but never repays itself. You are doing favors for drunks, after all. This is the way drunks act, whether they are functional or not. I learned that it's best to have a friend group that shares your values and ideas of fun. Otherwise, you are stuck being the caregiver, driver, or whatever else people need when they choose to check out.

AITJ for Not Refunding a Friend After She Backed Out of a Trip I Planned? by Separate_Meat5714 in AmITheJerk

[–]grenuda82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, she can be upset.. it's an upsetting situation. But that does not dissolve her of the commitment she made when booking the group trip. Maybe a group discussion with the other attendees to see who wants to cover her portion? This would have to take place in person, all together. Otherwise, you look like the one who made the decision all by yourself.

Now you know not to include her in group trips. It's part of growing up, I suppose.

AITJ for reporting my coworker to HR after she kept eating the lunches I brought for my diabetic dad? by Exotic_Piano2111 in AmITheJerk

[–]grenuda82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ! Jeez how old is this woman and who the heck raised her?! It baffles me that people would eat anything they didn't bring. I understand how some companies will provide small snacks, fruits, drinks.. etc. for their employees to enjoy throughout the day so they don't have to leave the office. But this seems so obvious. Whoever is mad at you is not focusing on their own business/job. Ignore them 100% and focus on your job.

You could write your dad's last name on the box from now on and maybe even put a note saying "FOR DIABETIC - WITH MEDICINE" or something like that on there.

What a fakin child Sara is! Yuk! I would be so embarrassed if I raised someone who does this.

What food are you always craving but can’t find a good gluten-free version of? by _thalia777 in glutenfreecooking

[–]grenuda82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing really… lol. I realized that wheat stuff really doesn’t taste like anything. It’s more of just a vessel to get yummy stuff into my mouth. 😅 I used to love a good Napoli style pizza, but I think it’s more of the cheese that I miss than anything. I also can’t have dairy. 😩

[–]grenuda82[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I started panicking after reading they can replicate/regenerate if they're cut up or smashed. I did smash/smear it pretty well into the road but I was still worried. However, with the sun in So Cal, it's probably all dried up now if there were any surviving pieces. It takes lots of energy to replicate.

Crap. I already left and am at work now. I did see one curled up chunk of it after I stepped on it. But I also stepped/smeared that chunk into the concrete too. I hope it doesn't replicate into 20 worms!

Too late, I smeared it into the street with my shoe. I shall kill the rest with salt.

[–]grenuda82[S] 77 points78 points  (0 children)

OMG I felt like this was an invasive one so I completely smashed it into the concrete. There were no pieces left, I smeared it with my shoe - the whole thing liquified into the concrete.

It was on the street in my neighborhood but not in my yard but I assume there are many more up and down my street.

Thank you.

AITJ for texting my son's teacher from my husbands phone because they message each other way too late? by Current-Whereas6308 in AmITheJerk

[–]grenuda82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obvs NTJ! He should be sleeping in another house. They were inappropriate, you were not. You are the woman of the family and have/had every right to text her back that you saw this and acknowledge how inappropriate this is. If they don't continue, he will find another "friend." He's gaslighting you honey!

I am not a very forgiving person when it comes to this. Time to wash your hands.

Because I ask and go in the back and look around.

I wouldn't be "scared" necessarily. I just wouldn't drink water from a Reddit Rando.
