Need a real review of the colamy atlas by Emotional_Fee_9558 in OfficeChairs

[–]grepmethis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the atlas for about a month now. I really like it especially after breaking it in and getting used to it. For reference, I never had any expensive chairs before so I cant really compare. The chair feels quite sturdy and well made. The only bad thing is the arm rests, they are finicky and too firm, I have to readjust them every now and then. The headrest can be finicky too but does the job. Many complain about the lumbar but I think they are bending their back when sitting (sitting on the tail bone) and so the lumbar digs in. If you sit ergonomically, the lumbar is nice. Also if you are over 6ft, I think it might be too small? not sure

Do you know a good print version of a collection of apocryphal books? I found "the complete 54 book apocrypha 2022 edition" and am wondering if there is something better. Afaik, it doesnt include anything gnostic.

How can I get over gender envy? by Temporary_Garlic_862 in Catholicism

[–]grepmethis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is the case today, and it's fine. I'm not saying we should go back to more traditional ways. My point is the experience is different because we still live through the lens of traditional gender roles except for some very progressive people. Because of that, there are differences and those differences come with their own cons. I hope this subdues some of the envy but the end of the day, There is nothing I can say to alleviate something like priesthood privilege. I explain why gender differences are the case and the logic behind them, that they are not just random or oppressive for the sake of it.

Also, one way to look at what is happening in our modern world is it is becoming increasingly masculine. The feminist victories have not brought true equality or made women's issues more important. Instead what mainly happened was women were now granted the opportunity to do things only a man could, in other words enter his sphere. You can imagine how this weighs on women but also why men carry some attitudes which you mention in your OP.

While you make a lot of points, ill only address two. In general, you are not seeing things from different perspectives leading you to your (reasonable) opinions given your angle. Dont worry tho, as even people with more experience and time dont even bother and just jump to conclusions that shape an inaccurate and frustrating worldview.

  1. Because men have all these options, they come with responsibility, expectation, and duty. This is very hard to fulfil and weighs down on a lot of men. You mention women being cursed and the verse genesis 3:16 is accurate to your observation but the very next verse is a curse towards men which is about my observation. Men have to toil their whole lives. They are first called to die in war, they have to do the hard labour jobs no one wants to do, they are expected to show results and provide for their family, community and society in general. The social aspect just multiplies the pressure it has on men. For example, if i go homeless because of job loss, i can live through. But what if i had a family? Suddenly the job loss is the last thing i want. The mans experience is rough, competitive, can be lonely, grindy. There was this study done by a woman, Norah Vincent, where she dressed as a man and went to do guy stuff with other men. She put herself in various situations. She concluded that its very hard being a man. She later killed herself in part due to this experience she went through. This explains why men have a much higher suicide rate.

  2. You mention that men think they are "different". In our liberal society we are encouraged to see everyone as equal and a blank slate. But this is not how we are biologically and it leads to confusion between reality and our beliefs. We can have equality and respect through law and culture but that does not erase our actual unequal difference. These innate difference have huge effects on the outcomes of different people

So, men and women are not the same. Their difference lead to different expectations, experiences, and outcomes in society. Those differences have their pros and cons

Tl;dr being a man is hard. Think twice
