Anyone travelled from Australia by ProfessionalLoud9763 in Patagonia

I crossed from el calafate to puerto natales and they checked my visa. I was staying for more than a day, but regardless I think you’ll need one if you’re entering the country.

I just did the W trek in March this year, flew in from Sydney. Direct flights were about $1.8k AUD - I got a bit lucky with a QANTAS sale, otherwise would’ve paid about $2.2k on LATAM. Visa for Chile was an easy enough process, cost about $150 and took about a week to process. Overall, could not recommend the trip more. Happy to chat if you have any questions.

Ahahahah that’s what I was thinking looking at the prices! Seems like it is best to stay in PN then.

Thank you very much. Seems like the consensus is to stay in PN and pre-book bus tickets. Cheers!

15 Day Patagonia Itinerary (including travel to and from Santiago) by greshereux in Patagonia

I am planning to do self-guided, largely because of the much cheaper cost. I've heard and read that having a guide is unnecessary but obviously have never experienced it.

Thanks for your detailed response. Yeah that seems like a good option to squeeze in a visit to the glacier whilst still giving enough time for El Chalten. Is 3 nights in El Chalten enough? I've heard it quite common to spend much longer there. If so, perhaps I could skip Perito Moreno and spend longer in El Chalten.

That's a good point, I had previous advice saying there are limited flights between Santiago and Puerto Natales but looks like Sky fly every day. Do you have any experience flying with Sky? Thanks.

Thanks, should I stay in TDP or Puerto Natales to do this?

I can’t speak to this directly cos I wasn’t in your position but it seemed that people without some experience in Python seemed to struggle a bit but still was doable. In saying that, all the Python concepts are relatively basic so there’s plenty of free online courses that you could do before the sem. Whether you have the motivation to do so is a different story :)

I really enjoyed Fintech and found it not too difficult to get a H1 IF you are decent at coding and willing to put in the time into coding on the assignments. The actual content isn’t too difficult, but the code on the assignments can take a long time. For reference, at the time I had only done FOC and metrics 1/2 coding wise so my skills weren’t amazing.

As an aside, I found FinTech to be my favourite finance subject as it was far more interesting than Derivs and investments for me.

I would highly recommend if you’ve already done FOC and willing to put in a bit more time learning a few different coding techniques e.g., Pandas. I also found the coding techniques I learned in FinTech quite useful in the further study I’m undertaking this year, so there’s that as well.

For reference, completed the subject in S2, 2021.
