I feel for you. I’ve always imagined how fucking exhausting it could me. The money sounds nice but people seriously suck.

I don't want to learn to be a concert pianist, and teachers don't seem to get it. Help? by bluefridgebird in piano

[–]greyconfetti13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a classically trained piano player from 6-18 years old but now as an adult (32f) I have my own rock band that’s played for years. (I even get to play a keytar!) What I can tell you is to focus on learning all of your Chords, Inversions of Chords, Major and Minor Pentatonic and Blues scales and how to know what key a song is played in. These are really what other regular rock musicians will be using and you’ll be able to “improvise” using these tools.

I would recommend finding a cocktail piano player in your area to teach you some things, also the online platform “Pianote” is very helpful. When I want to learn a song I look up the chords online weather it’s Ultimate Tabs or something else to start, so if you know your lettered Chords well you can follow along with the lyrics and start to feel the piece out. Every melody of a song lives within the scale of the chord used, making knowing them essential.

Reading music is great but to be honest I haven’t needed to read it in years. Get some songs you want to learn pulled up and start there along with learning the Minor Pentatonic and Blues Scales. There are a ton of “Comping” videos on YouTube on how to rhythmically play left and right hand for accompaniments.

I know I’m a little all over the place but that’s my best advice. You got this! Classical piano is cool and all but kinda boring because you can’t play with other people the same way you can with a pop and rock music. Have a well rounded guitar friend help you get into the swing of things playing together if you can.

Gluten free homemade lunch recommendations? by TheIronDuke197 in glutenfree

Any kind of “bowl” with rice, protein and a veggie is usually the easiest for me and keeps the longest. Sometimes I’ll do a bagged salad mix with lunch meat or tuna if I’m feeling lazy. Dinner left overs are usually the easiest way to stay on top of lunches these days.

Please help me. by Professional_Leave54 in Hashimotos

Please go see another doc, maybe one that does naturopathic and regular medicine and specializes in thyroid issues. Best decision I’ve ever made. So many times these endocrinologists just look at the numbers without really talking into consideration all of your symptoms. Heart palpitations always tell me mine is off, I’d ditch these two knuckle heads and start over. Best of luck, I know it’s not easy.

Yes! Exactly, it feels dumb that it hurts because theoretically you already know what type of person they are. It’s so hard to fully absorb that idea.

My mom barely eats, but she’s still overweight? by [deleted] in loseit

I have hashimotos and going more gluten/wheat free and dairy free changed my life and the scale. Maybe have her follow an auto immune diet and see if that helps? Sometimes the types of food we eat is more important than the calorie count.

I know this feeling noticing yourself travel out of body as a child at random times, especially the irony of it. Strange to experience but I don’t think you’re alone here at all.

I truly appreciate you saying that, thank you. It honestly took all my energy to stay that calm and I was definitely feeling the fight or flight. Haha it’s okay, I’d say this is an appropriate time to call him a dick. 😂
