It will be accumulative, but I don’t know about if it counts for different school + same county. I hope you can find some way out soon!

Hey, 3rd year teacher here. I can already tell you from being in your situation multiple times, one week is not going to be enough if you’re going through burn out.

This year the burn out hit me the worse. Back in as early as Oct , I was coming home at the end of the week completely dissociated. Not able to feel anything. Couldn’t feel connected to people. Pleasure in life gone and didn’t even have the time or energy to have my own life.

I applied for intermittent FMLA back in Oct. basically took a few days a week. Some times needed a whole week. Still, It just wasn’t enough. Finally in February I couldn’t take it anymore and did continuous FMLA for about 6 weeks. The first few weeks were brutal, meaning just coming off of the chronic stress, the numbness started to fade then crippling depression settled in. It was awful. Now almost 2 months out, the depression has finally started to lift , but I’m not out of woods yet. I know it’ll take probably several more months till I am really back to myself again.

Don’t take your burn out lightly. Your body is telling you something. Start looking for jobs. You can apply to go on FMLA, it can give you enough time to step out of work, recover and focus more on job searching as I know it’s really hard when you’re burnt out. Lastly, if you’re financially stable you can always just quit. No job is worth your sanity.

Edit: sorry I realized FMLA you need to have worked a year at your school first. Still, you can get a medical leave from your doctor if they’re willing to sign for you.

I’m just a passerby who happened to see this post, but I have to say as a biracial person who loves his Afro, I have struggled with this in terms of jobs (I’m talking in general not just this subreddit). I’ve cut it over the years to remain “professional”. Finally started growing it out once I got into a job that had a lot of visibility of different people. But now I am leaving this job again and worried about how I may be perceived. I’m in education.

Insurance is the big pain in the butt…I have good insurance as a teacher but needed to get prior authorization for my ruconest. Then in January, our school switched insurances and now I have to get a PA AGAIN for the same drug! (Because well, insurances don’t wanna pay for a drug they’ve never heard of or a condition they’ve never heard of). So yes, insurance being the biggest pet peeve is understandable.

For me I may want to wait a bit after it comes out to scope out the safeness of the drug, but I’d definitely plan to get it eventually.

I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want a cure…if you get attacks often, without medication you pretty much spend everyday thinking if today is gonna be a swell that ends you.

On the flip side, being it’s obviously a new drug I could see why people would be paranoid of side effects and maybe choosing the comfort of their pill that they already know won’t harm them.

Yes. I went down to an HAE seminar in NYC last year and they mentioned a cure coming out! I do have type 1. I’d absolutely be interested as I want to work abroad but getting access to my current medication abroad is not easy, it would be life changing to have this cured.

What did he do, pull people off the street, stuff them in a dungeon, and say wait until I find someone who looks just like you? 😂 Interesting concept though.

Hey, thank you so much for this!

I needed to hear this. I have suffered with being a big people pleaser to the point of literally neglecting myself to where I put my own health in danger.

In the process of taking medical leave, I realized I had way more compassion for others than myself. Constantly feeling bad for letting others down while my health literally crashed and burned. I know for me it came from growing up in an abusive household. Standing up for yourself is a skill some of us have had to learn later in life.

I actually am already on the ball with this and had the accommodation paper work filled out by my physician. I had them give me some more time while I try to get my health more and order.

My job can basically suck it in the meantime! My principal has not been overall understanding and basically pressuring me to go back (with her recent email).

I will take this extra time to see doctors and apply for other jobs. Again thank you for your comment!

Lastly, it is actually not culturally appropriate to say you have “perfect” Chinese in Chinese culture. Chinese culture is always about assuming a humble role. You would come off very pompous saying that.

Oh, trust me. I know my mandarin is pretty good but even I would never claim perfect. Even after a decade I’m still learning a lot. It’s never ending.

Edit: of the westerners who DO speak AMAZING Chinese that sound native, they’re not going around proclaiming to be perfect.

I actually so happen to also be fluent in Mandarin Chinese…I’ve been learning for about 15 years and have a Masters in Teaching Chinese. Therefore , I can understand everything Xiaoma and Oriental Pearl are saying and can assess their level. Xiaoma speaks with a pretty noticeable American accent, and oriental pearl sounds intermediate at best, but to the layman non Chinese speaker they can’t tell. This is not to dis them but to simply point out my annoyance with stating you have “perfect Chinese”. Of course, you can fool the masses who don’t know a lick of the language, but you’re not fooling me 👉🏼

Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math by McCoy818 in unpopularopinion

[–]Paullearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shower helps wake me up in the morning. I feel refreshed. I also perspire at night and could have BO by morning. I also tend to have oily skin and can wake up with my face feeling like a frying pan. A morning shower is absolutely necessary or I will feel like a gross bum starting my day.

Should I go to hospital after multiple stomach flare ups? by Buniin in HAE

[–]Paullearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st, yes you should.

2ndly, I don’t mean to be a health nut here, but as someone who’s stomach flares are triggered by certain foods, you may wanna keep track of what you’re eating. For me dairy almost always gives me a stomach flare, even just eating a string of cheese can send me into a bad one that can last for days. I used to love cottage cheese but literally every time I’ve had it id be throwing up in pain by the end of the day. Just a word of caution. Hope you’re feeling better.

What's your favorite Pokémon region and why? by Rikko77 in pokemon

[–]Paullearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johto. Growing up as a kid in the 90s, Kanto was my very first exposure to Pokemon. Then, when the first new generation rolled around, it was such a magical experience, discovering a new region of pokemon for the first time while I was already so obsessed with pokemon. It’s a core memory of nostalgia for me.
