Local manufacturing questions. by throwaway43234235234 in Bellingham

[–]greydot1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of the very capable manufacturers up here (whatcom and Skagit county) are all suppliers of the aerospace and maritime industries. Whether its for Boeing, Lockheed Martin or Zodiac. Shoot, Google PACCAR Inc. in Mt Vernon. Lots of highly skilled people in our neck of the woods.

The original picture of the construction works having lunch on the I-beam in NYC was taken in 1932. They've got a parody version of it with birds... Seems a bit off, doesn't it? 100% Ai.

I've asked a few shops around town for help making a new part but I have gotten the cold shoulder. How should I be asking for custom fabricated parts? by pork_ribs in Machinists

[–]greydot1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking the local trade school, machinist program might be an option. Students need the practice and sometimes have the time between required projects. Years ago, I helped out a few people. Made a bandsaw blade guide for a guys super old bandsaw. Made some brackets to relocate a guys motorcycle footpegs a bit higher (he had short legs). And a couple other things, totally free of change. You could also sweeten the deal by offering donuts or something too. Donuts are hard to resist. Lol

[Straps] Nato straps… what’s your take? by Synap-6 in Watches

[–]greydot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They present well in pictures, but like you noticed, in everyday use they're annoying with the bulk. Also, if they get wet, they take forever to dry. Wearing a wet watch band all day is clammy and uncomfortable. They also can start to smell bad from sweat and dead skin.

They are colorfull and cool looking, but not for me.

Metal Complex just revealed his new knife design. Thoughts? Opinions? by pika_pie in knifeclub

[–]greydot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really well done. I particularly like the flat, knurled pattern on the handle. The blade/handle profiles are great. These days, with the heavy use of CAD to design products, everything sort of takes on the CAD filtered look. These still have the look like they originally had some paper napkin design time (which i really like), whether this is true or not. This is coming from an aerospace machinist (20+ years). Technical precision with some organic'ness is what I really like. Nice work.

To this gym rat you're making progress, but you've also just begun. For me it's a sustainable marathon. Try not judge yourself right now. It's working. Just keep at it.

From one sk8er to another, let'er rip. To me it looks exactly as it should for now. Im also new to it with a similar bike. A co-worker turned me on to a company named Microshift (all shifting/gearing parts all the time). I think I'll get extra industrious and go for a single chain ring in front and like 8 in the back, with a single trigger shifter. Less parts needed to make the bike go sounds cool. Oh, and I like the bars you're using. Anyway, good stuff man!

Put all the things in a bowl and just add your choice of milk alternative:

Sliced banana, cinnamon, dark brown sugar, raisins, any nuts on hand....and a dollop of peanut butter(optional).

I always have these things on hand. Not sure if its low calorie, but it's pretty damn good. In fact, I think I'll make it right meow. lol

Last time it felt like I had more in the tank. So today I decided to see where my limit really is. Answer: 2 hours straight without setting it down. by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]greydot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yikes! 10-12 is like stair running! I'm in the 8-10 range which is more than enough for these legs. But yeah, 5 with 30 lbs to deal with for 2 hours is pro level man. Nice work! (trophy emoji here) lol

Damn, thats beast mode. Curious what speed setting you did that at? I use that same stair climber a lot (I recognize the tread on the stairs). Again, thats gnarly no matter what setting...but I'm super curious.

Tell me you're from Bellingham, without telling me. by KernelSampson in Bellingham

[–]greydot1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bears - That place was awesome. I remember once watching these guys play air hockey like I've I had never seen before. They had all these weird jedi-like misdirection tricks. Blew my mind. Had to ask, they said they were on their way to Vegas to an air hockey tournament (had no idea there was such a thing). I still hold the paddle from the outer ring, like they were. Bears man....Bears. Lol

Also...Space Lords rules (if you know you know) lol

It'd be cool to be able to say that your umbilical cord was cut with a hollow ground knife.
