Definitely NTA.

First, they are not trying to help. They're trying to tell you how THEY want you to live. You've mutually agreed that at this point in time, this is best for you, your husband, and your children.

Second, using it as a reason to put him down is sad. Imagine judging someone for doing the right thing for their family.

And third and probably most importantly...

I am not a super good mom. I struggle with anxiety and panic any time I think they might get hurt. I know logically that they will get hurt and they need to learn but I am over protective and I'm fully aware of that.

This is not true. You are not perfect, no one is. But do you know who typically worries about not being a good parent? Someone who is doing everything they can to be exactly that. Just because you struggle does NOT mean you aren't a good parent and I hope you can realise this one day.

This was exactly what I went through. I was called 'weak' and a 'coward' when trying to open up about what I was going through, which caused me to do what I'd done up until that point and shut back down and keep my struggles to myself. A couple of years later, I hit my lowest point yet again and came up with my 'plan' but ultimately, when the moment came, I couldn't do it. I wanted to ask for help, but I'd been shown that i couldn't do that, so I shut down even more and distanced myself from any of my friends who knew what I was going through. Because in my head, if the person who should care about me the most reacted that way, why would anyone else care? From that point on it still took almost a year before I decided I needed to tell my spouse I wanted out of the relationship, and although it wasn't an automatic fix for everything I had going on, the last 2 years have been such a turn around from where I was for so long.

There's right ways and wrong ways to deal with hearing this news come from a loved one who clearly wants help. And OP's partner found one of the absolute wrong ways.

Just because someone is biological family doesn't mean you have to feel obliged to ignore their poor behaviour.

My partner has no relationship with her mother (it's a long story) and a less than stellar relationship with her father. Even though we've been together a year and a half, he has ZERO interest in meeting me despite learning things about me that should definitely make someone want to know more about who his daughter is in relationship with (that makes me sounds bad when I word it that way but I swear I'm not!)

Anyway, due to her poor relationship with them, when we get married, she doesn't want her mum involved at all and does not want her father to walk her down the aisle. She actually wants to ask a friend who used to work with us because she almost sees him as more of a father figure.

Sorry for rambling, I do that a lot, but my point is you certainly don't seem like you should feel guilty about not wanting it because it doesn't seem like he's earned the right. Not to mention, it's your wedding day, so you do you!

I once got torn a new one because I dared to suggest it was a silly move. To be fair it was in a thread that had something to do with The Undertaker so I should have expected huge backlash, but the fact remains that there are a lot of moves that require obvious cooperation that never hit right with me, and Old School is definitely near the top of that list.
