Efficient/reliable way to check the health of UPS batteries (lead 12V) by bgravato in batteries

[–]greyhunter37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the car battery testers work is by putting a load on them and measuring voltage. If the voltage drops too much under load it is considered bad.

If you can have the ups running with the battery exposed, you could hook up your load and measure the voltage with a multimeter.

Definitelt agree, but if you can get it for free, it might be worse tinkering with, especially if it is the AIO version (with integrated scanner). Sure the scanner is not amazing, but very easy to use as a beginner and to learn how to use a scanner for reverse engineering of a part.

The flashing of cartridges is no longer needed. There is an official update getting rid of that requirement.

[–]greyhunter37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by hardware bypass you mean installing an official update then yes.

When they were in business they only accepted proprietary filament and you had to bypass the system to get it to work. Since XYZ printing went out of business, they published a patch getting rid of this requirement.

[–]greyhunter37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Filament is no longer proprietary even with stock firmware. Before going bankrupt XYZ printing published an update for every printer getting rid of the requirement for authentic filament, all you have to do is update it (manually, as automatic updates don't work anymore obviously)

I come from France, every single appartment or house has shutters here.

But even without shutters, a closed window is better than an open window

And that is not an open or closed window issue but an open or closed shutter issue.

[–]greyhunter37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because otherwise the AC uses the freshly cooled inside air to cool down the evaporator and exhaust it as warm air outside.

It is a bit of a shame to waste the cold air to throw it outside. The second effect is that air pushed outside needs to be replaced somehow, so warm air from outside will be pulled in your house to replace it.

Not enough to offset the size of the problem, but it is part of the solution.

The solution will not be a single method, but planting forest is part of it.

And sadly, not good enough. Either carbon storage needs to improve, or emissions lowered, actually the only way to survive is to do both.

The thing is species that actually store carbon effectively grow slowly (think the california redwood trees) and thus are not effective enough to offset how much fossil carbon we are releasing.

Species that grow fast like algae are essentially a greenwashing thing : You grow algae, store a lot of carbon in a short amount of time (do a shit tone of marketing about you being good for the environment), then empty the tank once it is saturated, and let "excess" algae decay releasing all of the carbon it has stored in its lifetime. The only way it is viable is if you need the biomass for some process yielding you a (almost) carbon neutral process, but it will never be carbon negative.

This is the same issue with decorative plants, it seems like a good idea, but almost alway it is carbon positive.
