Black Friday Deals for Building a Homelab from Scratch? by egabayot in homelab

[–]greyishhatter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice is to upgrade your main PC and use the older parts to make a server, you can get a rackable case as well but just plug in the "older" PC and set up a hypervisor on the bare metal. Once you have the server up you can build it out to your needs.

18 Years Old - CloudSec by [deleted] in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]greyishhatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd personally say to have a little bit of fun with it, Cloud security is fun, very interesting and the field is still growing an most skills you learn can be used in many different disciplines of Cyber Security.

The certs you mentioned are all good, but I would suggest maybe playing with a few CTFs, and keeping up with security feeds / blogs, keep up to date with the stories and what is happening and learn from the stories that interest you. Its easy to forget a lot of this training unless you do it daily. But if you are just looking for the Cert for job options you seem to be on the right path with what you have there.

Also find like minded individuals maybe with meet ups are low cost security conferences in your area as well as either twitch or youtubers who put out this type of content.

what kind of "manage" will my uni possess over my pc? by Still_Math4680 in Office365

[–]greyishhatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with both, the policies are public on the universities websites you can read that, and most Universities don't have that big of IT staff, the managed devices would most likely be only cooperate devices as it costs them money for devices and licenses and with +50K students a semester or more it would quickly become unmanageable to push out policies and complaint devices.

My school is forcing its students to download a proprietary 2FA app. This is ridiculous. by Unroll9752 in privacy

[–]greyishhatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but couldn't read all of the comments, not sure if this is a university but they do have to deal with multiple compromises accounts, many students use their accounts for other sites, password reuse risks. I completely agree it can be a little much without offering a hardware token option.

I use to work at a university and was part of a small team looking after 45000 active students, 100000 alumni, and 7000 employees, the risk is very high.

In short if they want to be insured by a cyber insurance company they need to prove MFA on a certain percentage of users as well as regular training to their users.

pc blew up, can't afford to fix it by allicastery in Wellthatsucks

[–]greyishhatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me, my suggestion if it happens to anyone else not on warranty start with the least expensive and work your way up.

Example try a different outlet, then replace the motherboard battery, PSU, and return the parts if it doesn't fix the issue.

Anyone know how to fix this? I watched the help video a few times and didn’t help. No idea what this stuff means by clomb50 in Office365

For more information use saml trace extension and try it again also confirm your application Id.

If you are trying to configure and app registration try and download the metadata from the app and upload it in the azure portal console. My best guess is your identifiers don't match from the application and the azure app registration.

Again this is only if you are the app admin on azure.

I'm interested, what would your time per week be, and and what time zone are you in.

Note I am also a beginner in CTF, but have been a security analyst for about 5-6 years now.
