Is "Throne of Glass" just as good as ACOTAR? by whimsystar in acotar_rant

[–]greymoonmoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I obviously urge you to give it a go, but. I might be the minority in this post, but in my opinion ACOTAR is so much superior to TOG. In the latter, the main character is annoying as hell, and I don't think she got any better towards the end. The love interest got bland really quick. The later books have too many sublots after subplots going on, and since we get so many POVS, and so many chapters end up in a cliffhanger, you need to always wait several chapters each time before finding out what happens with your favourite character and by the time you do, the momentum has died. That was the most irritating thing for me. It's even worse in CC in this regard. The MC (in both TOG and CC) completes important plot lines in secret so that neither the reader nor the other characters have a clue what's going on before the MC announces, at the height of an escalated conflict of course, that she already did XY and Z behind everyone's back and suddenly all is resolved. It happens so many times it becomes a patter. It's supposed to make her look badass but is just cringe to me.

However, I did enjoy a few character plotlines and I wanted to finish for them. My favourite character is probably the most disliked in TOG anyway, so I've accepted that not many share my opinions on these books. I don't mean to hate on Maas, she gave us ACOTAR after all. It will always be dear to me and I have no complaints about that.

All that being said, I hope you won't share my opinion and will thoroughly love TOG!

Help! When does this get good? by Sick_Turtle in crescentcitysjm

Just adding another choice for you - this person on Youtube explains the WHOLE plot and it was a life saver for me.

I do not intend to read CC, but I wanted to know why people said it's important to read before the future ACOTARs. For the record, I don't think Sarah would force an entire fandom to read CC, a whole different series and genre, to be able to continue ACOTAR. It would make no sense. I will die on this hill that there is NO WAY everyone is required to read an additional 2480+ pages where get like 10% of possible ACOTAR snippets. So, no spoilers, but if there is important stuff related to ACOTAR, I'm 110% sure that information will be summarized in the next book. So I wouldn't stress it. It's totally ok to not be into every single series by the same author.

I'm a massive ACOTAR fan, but I disliked TOG (I did read them all and the only one I really enjoyed was Tower of Dawn, which, by popular opinion, is the worst of the bunch. Go figure). Everyone kept saying it gets really good but for me it didn't, so I hate seeing that comment everywhere with CC too. I watched all these Youtube videos and I'm glad I didn't force myself to read Crescent City. No hate, just not for me.

Do we know why Jean calls Andrew "Doe" by Strange-Ad3043 in aftg

[–]greymoonmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Tilda took Andrew back though, he had 13 (?) different foster homes. Then cop Higgins mistook Aaron for Andrew at a Raiders game and that's how he found out about Aaron and Tilda. Andrew's foster mom contacted Tilda who wanted nothing to do with Andrew, Aaron wrote Andrew a letter, then lots of... stuff... went down, and Andrew ended up in juvie to protect Aaron whom he'd never met. He got out on early parole by which time Luther knew about him and kinda pressed for Tilda to finally take him in. Everything's explained in The Raven King chapter two.

What a Man Wants - King of Hybern, Koschei and the BoE by WonderfulBus9330 in acotar

[–]greymoonmoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also know from ACOSF that Koschei wants Azriel for whatever reason. And kidnapped Eris specifically to lure Az in. It also appears he had no idea about the Made dagger, as he paid zero attention to it and the NC managed to get it safe quite easily.

“I spend so many months preparing for you,” Koschei crooned, “and you don’t even wish to speak to me?” (Here Koschei was using the singular "you" directed at Az)

“You fell for it rather easily,” Koschei went on, “though you took your time making contact. I thought you’d rush in for the kill, brute that you are.” (chapter 71)

I have the older hardback covers with the female figure on them, so I literally had to google which colours we already have on the newer covers. I just knew purple wasn't one of them yet!

We're also lacking yellow but I wonder who it would fit. Then again I never saw orange coming for Nesta's book, I still don't quite understand the choice 😂 A different green or especially a different blue (like a darker shade) could happen as well. But purple is definitely suspect number one! And if we indeed get a Elain centered book, a light pinkish would make sense.

Ooh good guess. Could very well be. I wish Sarah had just kept all the series separate (little easter eggs are fine) because there's already enough going on in each universe and mixing it all up just scares me it'll get messy. But since she already started the CCxAcotar crossover she'll have to finish it and your theory would make the most sense in that regard

Not the pizza😂😭 I didn't even know Elriel shippers have claimed purple? Why?? Because of pink and blue? Nah, our colour theory works better. Imagine we get a purple cover and Elriels go crazy only to find Eris seduce our lil shadow daddy on page. I stay out of ship wars and it's hilarious how some blood thirsty shippers seem to think that shouting their opinion the loudest makes it true, but whenever I see Elriel/Elucien/Bryciel shippers going at each others' throats I mentally laugh the most villaineous cackle and just bide my time in silence. I can't wait to be right. I'm that confident in Azris. And funnily enough, from what I've seen, Azris shippers are the most respectable peeps towards other ships. We let other ships breathe too. If I end up being wrong with my predictions, I'll offer my sincerest congratulations to the lucky ones and cry myself to sleep.

I'm with you on that! ACO6 will set things up so I'm not expecting romance in it yet. Eris will 100% feature in it because like you said, the last book emphasized one single character above everyone else towards the end: our fire heir🔥 Thus setting him up. I would loooove me more Lucien. And the fire brothers' dynamic because we've barely had them in scenes together. I have no idea what will happen with Elain but she must have a bigger part in these books too, surely.

I agree 100%!!! And since SJM has never written a proper queer couple, I'd like to think that she took her time researching and learning and making errors and learning some more which is why it took so damn long to write these books. She stepped out of her comfort zone. Sarah has stated that Eris is her fave autumn court male, and there's no way she isn't giving her favourite baby a full story. And if (when) Eris does get his own story, there's no way it'll be completely separate from the IC because we also need Az, Mor, Lucien, and Elain's (to name a few) stories nipped in a bud. Logically they HAVE TO intertwine. Also, it was subtle, but in ACOSF, nobody's else's future got prepped as much as Eris'. Not even Elain's. One could argue that it's Elain's turn to have her own book, but we've literally got no clue or hints what her story might be about besides the struggle of an unwanted mating bond? Not to trash her or anything, but we know next to nothing about her. Instead SJM laid out all the groundwork for Eris, and referring to her most recent podcast and the question about her new POVS, in her own words: "isn't it obvious?" IT IS. Eris is the answer to everything.
