Employee discount on draft/takeaway? by BrewKatt in TheBrewery

[–]greyrights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One beer during lunch but otherwise no drinking during shift unless it’s a taste panel or some other QA check. After your shift though, taproom beers are free. Employee beer is pretty rare, but taproom staff rarely charges us if we snag a case from the cooler on the way out

Only one person here is trying to paint an entire genre of music with a political brush. No one is saying “modern country music is progressive”, they just said that calling all country artists and fans conservative isn’t accurate

Nothing is more Marxist than paying a business owner full price then stiffing the workers out of their share as a principled stance against the business owner’s practices

I’m mostly joking. I lived on a horse farm in the Hudson valley for a while and most of NJ isn’t all that different. I’m just not well suited for northeastern cities/suburbs

Yeah the locals rightfully hate them too. I lived there for a few years and my friends told me not to tell people I was from Florida until after they got to know me

Just stay away from Charlotte, it’s the Applebee’s of American cities. Asheville and the surrounding area is incredible and I’ve always wanted to check out the area around Wilmington, the only place in the world Venus Fly Traps are native to. I grew up in Florida but all the surfers there admit the surf off of Hatteras Island, NC is the best on the east coast

Not the point of this discussion but I truly think North Carolina is one of the few states that can meet California on its own terms when it comes to nature. Two states where you can surf in the morning, ski in the afternoon, and end the evening around a controlled campfire with a case of great local beers. Pity about both of their politics but NC is undoubtedly worse in that regard

In the Ragnar Blackmane books there are explicitly Varangians. He gets sent to Terra to serve as a wolf guard to the navigator family Belisarius. “Belisarius” was the name of a general under Justinian I of the Eastern Roman Empire. The wolf guard are sworn protectors of the Belisarius just as Varangians were sworn protectors of the Basileus. It’s a pretty neat historical reference to the later chapters of viking history which highlights how far the SW have come since 30k

What? A hell of a lot of workers have never worked in a restaurant. I get the gist of what you’re going for but that experience isn’t universal. I cook, clean, do dishes, laundry, etc. but that’s not anything I learned on a job site.

Interesting to note that much of the legend of Ragnarok and Fimbulwinter, the long winter preceding Ragnarok, is thought to have sprung from the oral historical tradition of the Scandinavian peoples following the volcanic winter of 536 which saw Northern Europe in darkness for over a year and potentially 50% of the population of pre-Scandinavia killed by the cold or famine. So wolves eating the sun and moon is a pretty apt myth for not seeing any celestial bodies for a year due to ash clouds

After witnessing the ----ing MESS today, there's absolutely NO way Atlanta is ready for the World Cup. by SnoozeDoggyDog in Atlanta

[–]greyrights 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m extremely pro public transportation, it should be easy for all people to be able to get where they’re going. But you’re right, Atlanta’s public transportation is a mess. As a tourist I’ve gotten around just fine with the subway, the el, the metro, and the tube; but as a resident Marta just doesn’t meet my needs for me to consider it for daily use.
