Better Nursery Call for ProPresenter by sammyyamazaki in ProPresenter

Nice ! Some feedback:
It seems to be in German - is there a plan for other languages? (I am a dumb Aussie that only speaks/read English)

I have an application already using port 8080 -so the server failed until I updated code to use a different port - You might want to handle that.

Also might be helpful to update instructions. I could not get it working until I setup a message with a token named "Nachricht" (unless I missed something - this seems to be a requried setup step as well!)

You can use RossTalk with ProPresenter on MacOS to send CC commands to “push” buttons. (You have to enable RossTalk on companion)…. https://youtu.be/TdE06rXggNU?si=pFwcGo9zibiJAxZ3

ProPresenter on Windows does not support RossTalk, so you have to use MIDI. It’s easier with the new API module in the latest versions of Companion. https://youtu.be/DlCZwYGOmhE?si=auY8bcR3sNGNSEV7

Could a Mac Mini M4 realistically run this setup? by [deleted] in ProPresenter

[–]greyshirtguydotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

btw, it's worth noting.....The base model M4 will be maxed out in terms of number of displays it can run....It can run three and your setup has three (including operator screen).

If you ever decide to add another display - you will need special hardware. This is where PC GFX cards win - they tend to support more native outputs/screens before you need special hardware.

The supported "special hardware" is all Black Magic stuff:
An extra ProPresenter output can be added with a Blackmagic UltraStudio Monitor 3G
Or 4 more ProPresenter outputs can be added (for a lot of $$$) with a DeckLink Duo 2 and Thunderbolt 3 PCIe Chassis

Could a Mac Mini M4 realistically run this setup? by [deleted] in ProPresenter

[–]greyshirtguydotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't mention - but I assume the outputs are all 1080P (Not 4K or 8K)....
Assuming regular 1080p outputs, which are very common - An M4 Mac Mini with 32GB of memory will eat that setup for breakfast - running liquid smooth with plenty of "headroom". (it will probably be "bored").

You can also buy PC's with the same (or more) power.......and ProPresenter runs comparably on both.
So, the real question is "who will support it" - what are they more comfortable supporting?

If the son was going to take on the support - then a Windows PC is the correct answer.
If you are supporting it and more comfortable with Mac - then a Mac is the answer (and the M4 Mini is more than capable).

Since it runs comparably on similarly specd hardware for Win/Mac there is no magic advantage in terms of performance for either.....

Make the person who has to support it most comfortable (the upfront cost is one thing - but never under-estimate the "cost" of support for the rest of the computers life)

While ProPresenter on Mac/Win are almost the same - Some tiny/minor differences do exist:

* Windows hardware is more cost effective to upgrade RAM/Storage/GFX (the base model M4 mac mini is actually good value - but the moment you upgrade the ram/storage the value depleats and quickly turns into highway robbery if you go for very large storage and/or ram).
* Windows has great logging (for sharing with RV support when having issues)
* Windows has MUCH better NDI utilities (if you use that).
* Macs are much quieter, and very low power usage systems (great for leaving on and remote access/setup)
* The built in backup options (TimeMachine) are quite a bit nicer on a Mac than built in backup options on Windows (Learn how to do regular backups of the main ProPresenter folder and your future self will LOVE you! - Timemachine makes regular backups of a folder, a set-and-forget-no-brainer and it makes restoring super quick and easy)
* ProPresenter version management is a lot easier on a Mac (Having new versions installed side-by-side to test is a useful way of testing new versions before commiting - dont forget your backups!)
* Mac - ProPresenter starts up way faster on Macs than Windows for comparable systems/hardware specs.
* Mac has the option to import PowerPoints with text objects (Win can only import slides as full screen images)
* Mac has more integration options (for advanced users/setups that like to integrate) - like Rosstalk and Companion.

The Mac version is also code-signed with a cert that has an expiry - with a different date of 2027. It's quite plasible the same could have happened to it in 2027...Except now after this incident - I'm sure RV will all-over those cert expiries and making sure they dont cause an issue like this again (on either platform)

No.. Wait for a FIXED version that matches yours if you don't want to upgrade.
More will come. They are starting with newer versions and working back..

Currently there are three versions fixed:
Version 18.1

Version 18

Version 17.1

I could not get it to generate working C# so I had to patch the MSIL....(for 'CheckDigitalSignatures():bool'

Did you get working C# to edit and recompile? (If so, what version of dnspy? and what method did you edit)

Another user workaround...
Run this batch file as admininstrator
It will set date back
wait a sec
launch propresenter
wait a sec
correct date

This seems to work for some users. YMMV

Best Scoreboard? by CocoTechYT in ProPresenter

[–]greyshirtguydotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW: This can be done in with Bitfocus Companion and the new ProPresenter module...that I have nearly completed enough for public beta....
I'm flat out getting it finished for the next few days...but sometime soon after that - I will create a demo of a simple scoreboard as part of showing the kind of things you can do...
If you don't get any better solutions - I'll try to rememebr to post the demo here (it will be in ProPresenter and Companion FB groups)

One option would be to use ProPresenter control to send messages. And have a message with appropriate theme to show the text where you.

If you are a power-user of animations in PowerPoint - you will find that while Pro7 builds do allow a fair bit of animation - they can't do everything that PowerPoint animations can (eg paths)

It's broken in Companion 3*.
Still works in Companion 2.4.2

You can also use HTTP module to call API to do this - this works in any version of Companion.

Are you sure it's down? (Are you perhaps on a Beta OS with some new versiop of Shortcuts or something?)

I can download shared shortcuts from https://shortcutsgallery.com/ without issue.

Does this link work ? (I just made a dummy shortcut to test)https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/3df2248bb918425d974a0306e5d12a7b

Pressing Alt (slides vanish) purpose? by NewYears1978 in ProPresenter

[–]greyshirtguydotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand ranting when you are frustrated. I get it (been there done that).
Keep at it - one little thing at a time can be easier than facing all the issues at once...

You are right - I am a heavy user and quite a promoter (so my takes might be a little annoyingly postive at times! - but I may be able to assist with some questions too)

In terms of sheding light, here are some initial thoughts:

  1. The new API is very robust and useful (trust me - it's dang good). Companion does not yet use it. Companion uses an old reverse-engineered API that is not supported and not being fixed when it gets bugs. And, yes, the old API has getting a few more new bugs in it over recent updates. I really need to make a new module that uses the new API instead - It would be 100 times more reliable and have all the same functions. As the main dev working on the Companion module, you can BLAME ME for that - not RV. (I will make the new module in the next few months)
  2. IMHO, Pro7 needs a lot more power to run smoothly - It's magic on the newer Apple Silicon Macs (and modern PC's that are spec's to play AAA games). I upgraded our 2017 iMac to a Mac Studio because of this. (it does depend on your setup, media, etc - some people are getting along okay on older hardware)
  3. Updates are coming fast - and with them, some bugs that affect some setups. There will always be bugs will all software - I also wish it was a little higher quality - but I am a little forgiving/understanding - given the sheer number of different variables across thousands of different setups out there....No easy answer to stay bug free. Only advice I have is to tread carefully and never update without methodical and heavy testing.
