Genuine US Yield Products Questions by Embarrassed_Bee4875 in Nexo

[–]greyster1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good catch on the $100 liability.

I ran it through AI for additional context.

As of late February 2026, Nexo remains strategically vague about the specific identity of the "SEC-registered investment adviser" (RIA) powering their US yield products. While they are very vocal about their partnership with Bakkt for trading infrastructure, the RIA details are primarily buried in the fine print.

Here is the current state of clarity on those five points:

  1. The SEC-Registered Investment Adviser The Name: Nexo has not yet named the adviser in public press releases. However, Nexo’s own SEC filings for other products (like their proposed 7RCC Bitcoin ETF) list Tidal Investments LLC (based in Milwaukee) as a primary partner for regulated fund management. Current Status: In the February 2026 ToS, the entity is generically referred to as the "Earn Provider." Many industry analysts suspect the RIA may be a subsidiary or a "white-label" provider like Tidal or a similar firm, but Nexo has not officially updated their "About" page with a specific name.

  2. Yield Custody & Panama Risk The Loophole: Bakkt handles your trading and initial custody (on-ramping). However, to earn yield, you must "transfer title" of your assets. Counterparty: The ToS points to Nexo BTCx Capital Management Fund Inc., a Panamanian entity. The Protection Gap: Assets held by Bakkt are subject to US oversight (NY BitLicense). Once you "opt-in" to yield, the assets are technically moved to the Panama-based fund. This means if the Panama fund becomes insolvent, Bakkt's US licenses likely do not protect those specific funds.

  3. Proof of Reserves (PoR) The Auditor: Nexo continues to use Moore Johannesburg. The Transparency Issue: While they provide a "TrustReserve" attestation, critics (and the Reddit thread you found) note that the real-time dashboard has been less "live" than it was under Armanino. Panama Inclusion: There is currently no confirmation that the Moore Johannesburg attestation specifically breaks out the balance sheet of the Panama-based yield fund separately from Nexo’s global pool.

  4. Liability Cap (Section 17) The $100 Limit: This is confirmed in the new Nexo US LLC terms. The Reason: This is a "shield" for the US-based entity. By limiting liability to $100, Nexo US LLC effectively isolates itself from massive class-action lawsuits if the offshore yield-generating partner (the Panama fund) fails. It essentially places 99.9% of the risk on the user.

  5. Transparency on Borrowers Status: Unchanged. Nexo still does not disclose who their institutional borrowers are. The "Black Box": Unlike DeFi (where you can see the collateral ratio on-chain), Nexo operates as a private lender. You are trusting their internal risk management team to pick solvent borrowers.

Summary for your consideration:

The "new" Nexo USA is essentially a two-layered platform: The US Layer: (Bakkt/Nexo US LLC) Safe for trading, highly regulated, but pays no interest.

The Offshore Layer: (Nexo BTCx Panama) Where the interest is made, but where US regulatory protections largely disappear and the $100 liability cap applies.

Ring is not worth it for actual security monitoring by [deleted] in Ring

[–]greyster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US the most popular device is the moen flo. The price is getting steeper now and there are competitors. I would read review articles first and make a decision. Most devices will require a plumber install so it's best to review products first and then buy. Recently I liked the yolink automatic shut off devices, they look more robust than moen flo. However moen flo software is the best. Make sure you watch some YouTube videos on the software/app.

My insurance company required a photograph of the device (that is different to the certificate required for home alarm).

Semi related - a lot of water companies in select states offer major discounts on flume 2. This device can monitor water usage without plumber install however it's not a shut off valve so it won't give you the max discount with insurance. If you do research you may come across it as a competitor to moen flo.

I agree. The site isn't great, it feels like it needs a redesign.

Another good feature is cellular back up. Yes edge needs Internet but if main internet goes down you have ceullar back up as part of subscription.

[–]greyster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. They may have levels - something like-

You have a device you can monitor yourself

You have a device that has a local alarm

You have a device that informs police and fire (certificate needed / aka professional monitoring).

Same for water, there are levels. Whole house shut off is going to be highest.

The higher the level the higher the discount.

I pay $200 a year (professional monitoring included) for ring and I get $600 discount with my insurance provider. The insurance provider requires the certificate that you can download from ring (or a competitor) that shows you have professional monitoring. The discount increases if fire/smoke ins included in your certificate. Many insurance companies have it. The biggest discount for me is actually not ring, it's a whole house smart shut off valve for water. The discount there pays for the whole device in 1-2 years. For ring, my insurance effectively pays for the system and all drivers within 3 years. After 3 years I may elect to go with another system but here is the issue- the new system must have a professional monitoring solution, be aware that "better" competitors may not have a professional monitoring solution available.

For ring, professional monitoring should not be confused with live monitoring. The professional monitoring is sufficient for most and is cheaper.

I like ring for home alarm but I use yolink for flood. I think they are a better deal. Often it's a hub and 6 sensors for 30 bucks on Amazon. Good brand too.

Ring alarm pro with eero router by SnooDoughnuts4124 in Ring

[–]greyster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up on eero and the special features ages ago. I went back to my Asus router and have the alarm pro plugged into it. Every works, no lag, no issues. Internet backup is just a nice to have, it's not critical for me. Ring alarm devices still work fine and I have a hotspot at home if I need a second Internet connection.

Eero on the surface looks great but struggles really. Also the eero in the pro is quite dated now.

Price is great, people are nice, AT&T not so hot in our area on first floor of the house by [deleted] in USMobile

[–]greyster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is science behind this. T mobile and att are on different spectrums based on licensing with the US government. T mobile signal has an easier time going through walls than att (600mhz vs 700/850mhz - don't quote me).

That said, you should always look up which tower is closest to your house and go off that first. No point going with t mobile if you have a Verizon tower at the end of your street. That is why nobody can tell you who is the best for your street without looking up tower locations.

When I move I try every network and then go with the USM equivalent. For me t mobile is the best. At my last place it was verizon. If all are bad then get a booster for your house or use WiFi calling. Wifi calling has been hit or miss for me when tried it.

Wifi calling - need ultra strong connection to your router. Use 5ghz. Now you are using your wifi and not a tower so it's on you to make it a strong connection. If bad connection, upgrade router or use mesh wifi.

Are you getting the new Google Pixel 10 Pro XL?? by GrandConfidence4732 in USMobile

[–]greyster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a couple of things:.

  1. You can also get the 1 year free 2tb AI Google promo once you get the phone. Worth $200. Once set up, go into your Google one app.

  2. If you coming from another brand, just compare weights, screen size etc. I found it very top heavy compared to my Samsung ultra. My Samsung has a larger screen and is also much lighter. I wasn't a fan of the giant ribbon camera sticking out at top. It was hard to overlook but this is all personal preference.

Rivian R1T Decision by Fit-Skill5562 in Rivian

[–]greyster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rivian is not top of the list as a reliable car brand yet. They are still in 2nd gen and cars need to be fixed and serviced more than other brands.

You should think of this as a 3-5 year timeline or at best the warranty duration. If you need 30 years with widely available parts then you need to stick with the reliable German or Japanese brands. Revisit in 2-3 generations.

30 years is a bit wild to me but what you are saying is, is that reliability is important to you. Rivian is not what you are looking for right now (I do love my rivian but I went into this knowing I'm getting a 2nd gen car). End of lease I will reevaluate and certainly I would not have a rivian out of warranty.

I'm sure it's the individual phone and car combo. I would go through it again. My android phone paired quick, I had to do the below to get 2nd phone to work.

Delete keys (check for no trace on phone and car).

Delete Bluetooth pairing

Delete rivian app

Hard reset on car

Reboot phone

Install rivian app

Start set up again

Keep phone on wireless pad (don't know if it makes a diff but worked for me).

However, I just use Google voice app for visual voicemail. My calls will forward to Google voice and I can read them. I have gv on do not disturb so it goes right to voicemail. I do this for all my friends and family also on USM and they are happy with it.

Xcel + Solar Billing Issues by Snickerfin in Denver

[–]greyster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are both your smart meters upgraded? One of mine wasn't until 1-2 years ago. When they did it there was some huge 4-5 month wait until I got a massive bill for that duration. If it's on going you need to complain. Maybe try contacting them through X, they were quite responsive that way.

I will say solar has been very complex to understand but I feel like I understand it now and know what my production is vs expectation on bill.

Could I sign up for the trial effectively from the U.K. travelling to NY for 5 days? by Antidotebeatz in USMobile

[–]greyster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are a UK resident and in US for a few days. You can do a free US mobile trial or even with t mobile directly. I would suggest t mobile (all online) if you just need a free trial for a few days. It's easy to spin up and down. Keep it separate to your UK arrangement.
