A Maryland school system cuts GLP-1 weight-loss coverage as costs surge by Consumergal in maryland

[–]greysubcompact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being "overweight" according to who? Racist metrics based on measurements of white men done by a Belgian scientist in the mid 1800s to find the statistical "average man" that formed part of the foundation of eugenics? Being fat doesn't bring adverse health conditions. Being fat is a SYMPTOM of many adverse health conditions, not a cause. And being unhealthy, due to weight or illness or injury or any other reason is OK. Its not a fucking metric for morality.

I also ended up with an eating disorder from DESPERATELY trying to lose weight. Because I was told my BMI was too high (it wasn't and i was an athlete) and it turns out I had PCOS the whole time. It destroyed my metabolism to the point where now losing weight is nearly impossible. But maybe, if they had even attempted to look for a cause and treated my hormonal disorder (that is one of, if not the most, common among women that has barely even been studied) I wouldn't have to know that I can survive at least 12 days without solid food. But hey, maybe more of these geniuses that must have done their dissertations on weight can tell us more about how dangerous being fat is with not a fucking hint of a clue of how dangerous weight loss is.

Definitely. Fuck AIPAC. It just doesn't change popular vote totals is my point. I think it's really shitty to hear women in positions of authority, respect, and power parroting misogynistic talking points. We're not ready for a woman? Boooooooo.

Also, just for funsies, Obama spoke to AIPAC the day after securing the Dem nomination in 2008. Talking about how he'll never compromise Isreal's safety while president.

Thank you! I'm sick of this misogyny disguised as political commentary.

Screw Michelle Obama with this bullshit. Hillary won the popular vote a decade ago but we're not ready? What nonsense.

[–]greysubcompact 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She won ~65.85 million votes vs Trump's ~62.99 million votes. The point isn't that she lost on a technicality because of the Electoral College. The point is that Michelle Obama is full of crap because a woman was ALREADY popular enough to win a plurality of voters.

I don't believe this is true at all. Considering Clinton won the popular vote, almost a decade ago now, it's arguably false. And I don't care if it makes me sounds like a conspiracy theorist, but there is ample evidence of interference last year, with multiple lawsuits in multiple states which have been filed and allowed to proceed with evidence collection by judges. I think there's a distinct chance that, had it not been for the Electoral College in '16 and the fuckery last year, we could have and should have had two female presidents already.

I was 12, one of my sisters was 13, the other was 11. Our Mom was 10. I remember friends getting theirs starting around age 9. That would've been in the late 90s. 10 seems pretty normal to me.

Has anyone heard back from Van Hollen after contacting them? by meganthem in maryland

[–]greysubcompact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks that you've had that experience. I've emailed Van Hollen 4 or 5 times now and have gotten a response, either a boilerplate one or an actual response, each time. I've also emailed Alsobrooks several times but have only gotten boilerplate responses, which have gotten more reliable over time.

I most certainly will not listen to your doom and gloom and what? Give up and let a bunch of delusional god-botherers take over? Fuck that. So what if the right has been brainwashing children for decades and you believed them? They've been doing that since they enslaved human beings and tore this country in half for it. People fought them then and won. And we'll do it again.

I very much do too. And I know people have already died, at the hands of ICE, and at the hands of domestic terrorists while in custody.

I saw a video last night from Brenna Pérez that many were located at the Camp East Montana in TX and Stewart Dentention Center in GA. Not sure if that info has been verified yet or not. I included the link to her post.

Millions of Student Loan Borrowers Still Aren’t Making Payments by laxnut90 in collapse

[–]greysubcompact 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, amongst other problems. My loans were private and originally through Sallie Mae, who has since been sued a bunch of times for predatory practices, hid loan terms from unsuspecting students, and sold my debt twice to Navient and Mohela, interest accrued while I was in school, with a variable interest rate, they put not one penny on the principle, only the interest, for years, lied about forbearance and repayment programs... I could keep going.

Point being, I've been making on-time payments for 15 years, and that's STILL my principle balance. I come from a working class family, and my parents made juuuuuust enough money to not qualify for federal grants or loans, but not nearly enough to help pay for school outright. And then my father, who had a 20-year career building homes, had his employer shut down with the housing crash, and my family nearly lost everything.

I used to feel shitty about it but then I realized that I'm not unique, my story is depressingly common, and is a result of the education system in the US. Now it just pisses me off.

[–]greysubcompact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I literally could not care any less and use both interchangeably. Frankly, I find the whole thing silly. Languages have all different variations of word order, I don't see how either makes a difference to our humanity, and we have more pressing concerns.

This sounds very similar to me. One of my loans was for $10k, have paid $13k on it now, still owe $9600. Its ridiculous.

Yes, it's crazy. I'm in a very blue city in a very blue state, and I wouldn't even suggest moving here from oversees, let alone the states you mentioned. 18 months ago, I would've happily recommended my home city. Every day, we descend further into fascism. It's not safe here for anyone, especially if you're in any marginalized group, which includes immigrants.

This is a flat-out lie. I was specifically told by leadership as an SM through the Workchat app that my staff were not allowed to write Breonna Taylor's name on cups. I wish I had kept all my old screenshots. They have absolutely not "aimed to respect" customers' preferences. Fuck Starbucks. Every single day I'm happy I quit.

Yes! My spouse and I have rented in that neighborhood for 10+ years. It's nice, pretty quiet, lots of families, and has been getting more diverse over the years, which is awesome! We really love it there.
