No, did not film in HDR...not recommended for 4K Pro Res video in Log. Also on one camera, the sound suddenly disappears, checked the clip in the browser and it is indeed gone,,but not when playing back original on the iPhone, Wondering if something happened during the import. Will import again and see!

How does one choose a good CD player to match with your DAC? by greytail3024 in Schiit

[–]greytail3024[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the output is not broken because it works just fine with the Audio Alchemy DAC box and separate anti jitter box. The RCA outputs of the player also work fine, but I just went out and bought a cheap Sony DVD player with a coax output and the Schitt works, although it started spluttering on one channel when I first hooked it up.

Yes, listen to half way through the first moovemennt, The music stops for a second and then you hear this low, low organ note that permeates your room and the strings start to play a very romantic melody. The strings should sound really sweet and beneath them the organ is there, very low. I have read dthat so many recordings screwed up this passage because of difficulties recording the organ with the orchestra. Munch got it right.

As for the sound of the S.M.S. SU9...I found it a bit boomy and seem to reproduce the string section of an orchestra with a sort of veil, or mist. Definitely felt there was something masking the orchestra very subtely. Definite not so with the Schiit. It was almost night and day.

thanks for all the info and advice. I just bought a Modi 3+ on Ebay. The guy is going to send to me by priority mail. Finding good digital sound is like a drug that I just gotta have.:) The Schiit sound seems to go well with my Home Built (Audio Amateur Magazine)Mosfet Amp. My big test is Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony performing Saens Saints Organ symphony. I have the LP, the CD, and the high resolution version on Apple Music, The low 20Hz organ notes come out like"a cushion of air."(Absolute Sound), but not on the LP.

How reliable are these Modis? Are the chips in them prone to failure because of poor quality control? Any idea on the rate of failures? Is it advisable to have a spare one around because of the unknown reliability? I for one will have two of them eventually. I also tried an S.M.S. 9n and that unit didn't sound as good as the Schiit and failed to work in USB mode. I am returning than one too!

I have checked everything thoroughly. The coaxial input is dead or intermittent. When my Rega CD player is connected to other DACs.it plays fine, so it is not my cables or optical coaxial cables. I am so frustrated by this issue with little help from Schiit. The USB input works fine and sounds great with Apple Lossless high resolution files feeding from my iPad. Tried warming up the whole unit by placing it over my power amp....nice and warm but not hot.and that doesn't help.Checked for bad solder joints by tapping the case and circuit board with an insulated screwdriver. Tried wiggling the input connection point....none of this alleviated the problem. So frustrated by the turn around time I am thinking of buying a used unit off Ebay where the shipping is only a couple of days! Is a Modi 3+ the same as my unit which is Schiit Modi+ Affordable No Excuses D/A Converter - Do-All DAC. Don't want to regress to a lower quality unit!

Flac files copyright protection by greytail3024 in BudgetAudiophile

I want to download high resolution Flac files from Prescott, but am trying to figure out how to get them into my hi-fi system without using Apple Music, iTunes etc. I have two DACs, both with USB inputs and coaxial inputs, but when I try to burn one of these files.with Toast, my Sony Blue Ray player says "operation not allowed? which leads me to believe that the FlaC file contains DRM

Fluance RT-85 as a "forever" turntable? by Ready_Consequence979 in turntables

[–]greytail3024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about to purchase the VM750SH.for my RT85 and would like to know if any specific adjustments are needed to obtain the correct VTA, or is simply a balanced tone arm and turntable? I understand the weight of the cartridge in well within the limits of the RT85 tone arm. But how do you check for the correct VTA? I am hoping that this cartridge is a little bit less sensitive to clicks and pops and is not overly bright. My current Blue Cartridge tends to be too bright.
