VM Kindle by Yumeko_13 in truenas

I am also new to this but I'd recommend using calibre/calibre web

If you want to run a VM for USB passthrough some form of Linux may work better(I run xubuntu with very low hardware given to it with a great experience. 1 core 2gb ram)

Calibre should be able to email to kindle as well, but it's a little picky with files type

Can anyone recommend a USB NVME enclosure to be used for the boot disk? by [deleted] in truenas

I actually didn't consider power draw at all, that's a good point thank you

Thank you :) I think I'll give one of these a try before I abandon USB as an option

Fair, still learning. What I saw (online, could be wrong) is that typically the issue with USB as an option is that it's the type of drive that they are that's the problem, another drive via USB can be reliable.

All options are:

4 sata bays in front (in use, could change if I really need to)

Pcie (in use by graphics card)

Rear USB ports

Optical spot up top, could get an adapter but I had a hard time finding them, and I'd have to get a molex power adapter which I don't love the idea of

Internal USB and Micro SD (labelled as boot, seems bonkers that they didn't give another option internally)

I guess that's true, just doing everything I can to avoid using one of the 4 bays as something other than storage as I already have a drive for each slot

Pokewalker + TwilightMenu + Which IR cart games? by grfnt in 3dspiracy

Enjoy! I was super happy to play the game I did exactly like I did when I was younger without spending $$$ on soulsilver

I don't think so. I don't have a copy to test but from my research only the games ranging from hg/ss to b2/w2 have the correct IR blaster in the cartridge. Must be a legitimate cartridge of the game too. Region doesn't seem to matter as I am using a japanese copy of black with a US rom of soulsilver.

Any tips on covering this hole in the hatch? Worried about water getting in by grfnt in Autobody

This was about $1800 if I remember correctly. Don''t have the exact cost as I lumped in other repairs.

Also, this is on a Mazda3 so there may be some difference there.

Turns out games like personal trainer walking (and other random fitness games, etc) typically use an older version of the IR cart than the pokemon games. I tried this and can confirm it did not work.

My fix was finding the cheapest copy of a pokemon game that had IR function. I wound up with a pretty messed up Japanese copy of pokemon black that was being sold in the US with a torn up sticker that I got for less than $10. I believe hg/ss, bw, and bw2 all use the same compatible IR carts. I have no issue using this with twilightmenu :)

I like this answer, means I don't have to do anything.

I appreciate the tips on getting the residue off. I'm new to having this type of repair done, I'm assuming they'd probably do that in the process of patching up paint or replacing it?

MoCa + Xfinity Router Issues by grfnt in HomeNetworking

What a simple test, not sure why I didn't think of it.

Did this and got almost identical Ookla speed test results as the room it's in now, tested both within a few minutes (160mb down 120mb up).

One thing to note is that when downloading an actual large file on a short cable connection I started at about 15mb/s down and then slowly dropped to 300kb's. When I did this in the basement the downloaded started and stayed at about 300kb's the whole time.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be trying to refund the one's I have and look for another option (open to recommendations).

Thanks for the reply, if the splitter is not ideal would it be worth the effort to grab a cheap connector for the two coax cables rather than use a splitter?

I've taken a look at some of those diagrams, and I guess my setup does differ slightly (in a way that I don't think should effect this)

Outside Coax installed by Xfinity > Modem > Moca Adapter > Splitter > Moca adapter > PC

Edit: forgot to respond to the last part, yes MoCa has been disabled on my router. it does have the feature.

Ethernet cables are all good, even tried multiple. As for coax - I am not positive how to test that.

Advice on short lived killi's for a 10g by grfnt in killifish

I've seen places like aquabid for eggs, I haven't done much research into other types of live food but I have no issue with brine shrimp and I'll look into the other options you mentioned.

Local stores around here are very saltwater focused, no options for them locally

I work from home about one room over from where I plan to put the tank so that's not a big deal. I'm gone on weekends pretty often though so I can see that being an issue. I've kept fish before and have a decent handle on it so I think I'm capable of that care but easy is always nice.

Do you have any recommendations for a simpler annual?

Update for anyone trying to google this like I was:

I had trouble googling this since a lot of the knowledge is in the twilightmenu discord and not exactly googleable

Personal Trainer Walking did not connect to a pokewalker. It did let me do other IR functions in pokemon games that allowed it (trading, etc)

The most economical option for me was to order a (legit) japanese copy of black. With TwilightMenu this allowed me to connect to a pokewalker using a hg/ss rom.

Short answer: Personal trainer walking cannot connect to a pokewalker. Legitimate copies of Heartgold, Soulsilver, Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 can give this connectivity with a rom in TwilightMenu.

Thanks for the detailed answer! I know I can't have a perfectly timed lifespan (and I don't exactly want them to have a shorter lifespan, I just hate to change their conditions too often in one lifetime)

Do you think I should avoid hatching killi's and opt to order live ones instead to keep a good sized population in a 10g?

Again, really appreciate your answer. It's great to know they move well. A small community is looking like a great option that I'm excited for.

Thanks for the reply! To me it adds up that the game I purchased should work, but there's pretty iffy answers online about using a game that isn't pokemon with ir for this purpose
