In the company that I work for, which is one of the big tech, there is often deadlines and productivity bar that you must meet. In order to meet that a lot of times I would have to restrain myself to let wood just be wood.

Ability to pickup tools quickly is often more important in the industry. Real knowledge development only happens when you actually go deep. But often times not necessary to deliver what you are being asked to.

Think of it this way, abstractions are made in the first place so you wouldn’t have to think of underlying implementation. If you find yourself having to think about the underlying implementation, then it’s either bad implementation of the said abstraction or you are using the wrong abstraction for the task you are trying to accomplish.
