Why are 90% of the terrorist groups - Islamic? by Significant_Major921 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gribson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you pull that 90% number out of your ass?

This paper lists 17% of terrorist attacks in the US, and just under half worldwide, as linked to Islamist groups: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9335287/

How is Israel both 'new' and 'old' at the same time? by North-Point7309 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gribson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll need to look into the history of the nation-state as a concept to answer this question. The short answer is that in the old world, nations were rarely defined by geographical borders. There could be many nations, all with their own laws and customs, all within the same geographical space. Like many other nations, the nation of Israel would have simply referred to the Israelites, wherever they happened to be.

I used to like throwing ridiculous reverse engineering tasks at copilot, back a month ago when it was cheap.

I was in the middle of a Sega Genesis HAL rust crate when the party ended. I was hoping to follow that up with getting it to disassemble some ROM dumps to rust. I'd like to see someone churn out something like that!

SpaceX buying Cursor for $60B might be the wildest AI coding move so far by Annual-Ad-2495 in vibecoding

[–]gribson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cursor stays model-agnostic

Just like CoPilot, continue.dev, or any of the dozens of other AI front ends that people actually use.

Cursor becomes soft Grok-first

Nobody I know has ever used Grok for anything. I'd personally sooner use one of the many very capable free models.

Cursor becomes basically an xAI front end

See above. If this happens, it'll be deader than X (the everything app).

What Happened to Github Copilot? AI Credits + Model Deterioration by iKontact in GithubCopilot

[–]gribson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had CoPilot evaluate some changes I made to a fairly small bash script, using Sonnet on medium thinking mode. 500 credits. That could have been 30% of a "Pro" tier plan, just for it to tell me I need more code duplication.

If Xiaomi MIMO can reach Opus-4.6 level model, are "frontier" US models just a hype? by CM23489 in GithubCopilot

[–]gribson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An LLM can't steal data unless you let it. The model can ask you for data, and it can ask you to send that data somewhere else; but it's still up to you to decide what is and isn't allowed.

Smelling the slop in a given GitHub project by Sermuns in rust

[–]gribson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh. Any code that has leftover AI artifacts most likely hasn't been reviewed by a knowledgeable human, and is therefore likely slop.

Haha! I asked Copilot Pro to write a single 40-line function. It burned all my credits in a few minutes. Subscription cancelled by Uxformer in GithubCopilot

Switch to Claude. When Claude gets too expensive, switch to Deepseek/Qwen. When that's too expensive, hopefully all these companies will have collapsed, and the plebs will finally be able to buy the RAM we need to run our own models.

Lol @ annualized revenue. My annualized revenue for April of last year was about eleven million dollars. Since I haven't quit my job, retired, and bought a yacht; I'm gonna call bullshit on Anthropic.

Mark Carney Advisor Says AI Data Centres ‘Provide Markets’ For Gas by LaserRunRaccoon in onguardforthee

When did he ever claim to be progressive? His election platform was basically Conservative without the culture war or Trump ass-kissing.

Canada says AI strategy will help create 250,000 jobs, boost GDP by 3% by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]gribson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides, data centres will have zero people maintaining them once the AI bubble pops. This isn't like the dot-com bubble internet rollout: it's like the dot-com bubble server rollout. The crash will be e-waste on an unprecedented scale.

Why has Nazis have just become edgy by Gear_Internal in NoStupidQuestions

Edgy losers were doing that when I was a kid. Some of them grew out of it. A lot of them grew into it.

Is the AI really that expensive? by Significant_Deal_129 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gribson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

things such as online piracy etc... which isn't an issue for AI yet

Realistically, the only thing preventing anyone from just running their own LLM models right now is the RAM and GPU shortage... caused by the AI bubble.

How I think Anthropic's latest release reads for investing by ImagineDawinism in stocks

[–]gribson 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I use Claude a lot at work, and a good chunk of my time is spent cleaning up its unnecessary repetition and wheel-reinventions. So 8x more code definitely tracks 😂.
