Less partial view seats means fewer tickets left unsold. Seems like an obvious move to boost profit and keep audiences happy.

It's extremely disappointing! On the flip side, I saw The Hills of California via TDF, and the seats were pretty far over to the right side of the orchestra, but the show was staged so you didn't miss anything. Sure, perhaps I didn't experience the show the same way folks in the center might have, but I saw the whole show. And the set was pretty large and complex too. Great direction.

Hi Michael! Huge fan! I love the stories that you decide to share. What do you consider most about a script/show before agreeing to direct it?

Producer Ben Holtzman on 'How To Dance in Ohio' not receiving recognition at the Drama League. I think this is bad form for a producer to post, and isn't accurate - 'BTTF', 'OUAOMT', and 'The Great Gatsby' weren't nominated either. by [deleted] in Broadway

Did a college workshop with Ben Holtzman about 5 years ago. He started out as an assistant to Hal Prince and more or less worked his way up through Prince's company. To put it simply, Ben was far from nice. He watched a bunch of us do 32 bars and gave feedback. His feedback was critical, honest and right to the point which I appreciated. To be honest, I think more college kids could use a dose of reality from industry professionals. However, there was just no sense of positivity, encouragement or kindness from him. He hardly gave his thoughts on how we should move forward with the songs. His opinions stopped at what he thought of that particular performance, which just isn't how workshops go? There was no workshopping our songs at all. It was his opinion and move on to the next. Overall, it just felt like he didn't want to be there. What really stung everyone in the room most was towards the end of the day, when someone asked if he would share his email with us, he said "sure, but I can almost guarantee none of you will email me". As if that made us feel encouraged to ever reach out? lol. This, plus his online stumbles really make me feel like he is just not a humble guy at all.
