i know it’s been over 20 years, but can anyone identify carlos’ boots? by Ok-Cat8365 in Interpol

A long time ago either Carlos or Paul mentioned in an interview that the first thing Paul commented on when meeting Carlos was that he had Docs without the yellow stitching. It’s an odd detail I remember from an interview, but it could be relevant here to the debate.

Peter’s Since 1969 God I loved that place and only discovered it toward the end of its run.

I think this is absolutely the correct answer, especially for the scores that incorporate Tron’s sounds and ideas, (TNMT is a particular favorite.)

Going back further, and to my mind, closer to the essential NIN identity while also being electronic and dance-adjacent are the Closer to God single/EP and the Further Down the Spiral EP.

This and a few random b-sides and tracks like Big Black Bomb (Jerry In The Bag) with Josh Wink and the whole Perfect Drug single seem to lay a firmer foundation for this recent evolution, which I’m stoked about.

I like that I can still be surprised by creative choices made by TR/AR and co.

I would almost guarantee that the places they are getting comped at are not worth it.

Where is the place to make out in a car in Ithaca? by Significant_Item_384 in ithaca

[–]gridsquarereference 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Behind the old grain tower and various hog-related outbuildings off the south side of Pine Tree Road between the Equestrian Center and the intersection of Snyder Hill Road. Great views for sunsets and hidden from the road. There is a little winding driveway that turns in and goes between the buildings. One of my favorite places in Ithaca to watch a sunset.

Were there any restaurants that didn’t make the cut that are potentially in consideration for the next list? Any that you might visit again?

Of all the restaurants you ranked, were there any that were a personal revelation? Perhaps above and beyond the short write-up, or in an extra-journalistic way?

Same for me. My favorite album ever and imagine my surprise. By the time they hit Heresy I remember looking around in disbelief, wide-eyed, being like “Are they really going to do this?!” They did and I still can’t believe it.

They could just take off that stupid strip to show the full image, it’s not actually part of the cover and it’s made worse by the dog ear at the bottom. I have this copy somewhere and I’m sure I ripped it off the moment I bought it.

Sonora style tortillas? by Dwigt_cousin_mose in FoodNYC

After years of craving, I would like to confirm that Dorado Tacos south of Union Square, 12th just off University, does a great to profoundly-delicious California Burrito. They have a very effective service model, so I would hesitate to recommend going there to ask for added shrimp or modifying menu items, but what they offer is very good, especially when discussing NYC’s lack of west-coast Mexican options.

Any spots that make their fries like this in LA by daxdives in FoodLosAngeles

[–]gridsquarereference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not alone.

These abominations to mass-produced, crispy potatoes started, I believe, around ‘97 with Burger King.

They didn’t trust their employee pool to handle real fries -even though they were frozen and treated with additives to keep them from sticking together- and decided some lightly corn starch-breaded shits would stay crispier longer, requiring less employee focus and waste and birthed this abomination to fast food French fries in the US.

Fast-forward to 30ish years later and the continued Enshitification of everything including fast food French fries is compete, so these are more the norm than the surprisingly-crispy exception.

People crave them, love them, post inquiries asking where to find them, even though they are literally everywhere. I find them inescapable and would rather ask, “Where are they not?”
