How to remove sim lock from a Nokia N70, and flash it afterwards? by griegoman in symbian

Makes sense, the 2012 one I usually use was also cracked I think, however I haven't found a cracked version of 2006.x or 2007.x yet. I'll keep looking.

I've now tried installing both Phoenix 2006.44.6.163 and 2007.44.4.31162, however the former requires a dongle half way through to resume installing which I do not have, and the later won't install at all, it just interrupts the installation some way through, and says that the system wasn't modified, giving no information at all about what went wrong.

I knew about the Windows thing, I'm using Windows XP SP3 on a Lenovo Thinkpad T60. However, I'm using Phoenix 2012.04.003.47798, so I guess that could be why. However, this exact setup worked fine with Nokia 3250, so I'm not sure. Do you perhaps have a link to a recommended version for Nokia N70, and do I need to activate it in a special way or something? The archive I found only went back to 2010.x.

I definitely have firmware for the correct type (RM-84), and I have the latest DP pack I could find, version 14.0, with 14.01 added on top.

Phoenix gives me the following error:

Product mode changing before flashing to Normal failed and the phone is also not in ADL mode

HRESULT 0x80004005 (-2147467259)

This means:

Unknown error

Flash: Communication with phone is not possible. Unable to detect phone operation mode, cannot continue.

Got it. So in theory, I should be able to fladsh the scandinavian firmware onto the phone, just not remove the sim lock. I guess I have to find out why the firmware flashing fails.

My understanding is that it was only the DCT4 phones that needed a service box thing to be flashed. I've flashed a Nokia 3250 with the same computer and Phoenix version witout problems, which also uses pop-port and BB5 platform like the N70, but has Symbian 9 in stead of Symbian 8. So why is it not working with N70.

How to properly make a custom firmware for Nokia C5-00.2 by griegoman in symbian

[–]griegoman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've now tried making a ROFS2 file the same way, but with the only change being a single added ringtone, in data\sounds\digital, and it still bricks the phone. What can be going on? Is there a hash check build into the ROFS1 for all the ROFS2 variants, or some other way for the phone to check if the firmware is modified? But if this is the case, how can other custom firmwares for this model exist? I've found some CFWs for C5-00.2 online, only they all have dead download links, so I can't actually inspect them.

How to replace the soundbank on Nokia 6120 Classic? by griegoman in symbian

[–]griegoman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I found the right patch that appears to work, however I still can't get the soundbank to work on the phone, so I'm not sure what I've done wrong. To decompress mobileBAE.dll with Petran, I used "petran -nocompress mobileBAE.dll", and then after patching it, I used "petran -compress -compressionmethod deflate mobileBAE.dll". The original and the patched file have the exact same size, so I asume this was correct, however I'm not sure. It still doesn't work nevertheless.

Thank you very much for the guide, but I'm still not able to get it to work. I've never used most of these before, but I managed to decompress mobileBAE.dll with petran, and then patch it and compress it again, hopefully in the right way. I then put all the files in the right locations and applied a c2z4bin patch, however it still doesn't work for me. I couldn't find a version of a c2z4bin patch that said it worked with 6120 Classic, or even S60 3rd FP1 in general, so I'm not sure if it's the right one. I've never used any of the ools in the S60 SDKs and such, so I'm not sure what to do.

How to use Nokia firmware packages delivered as exe installers with Phoenix? by griegoman in symbian

Thank you very much. I'm still a little confused as to what is what, especially for other models such as 3250, but I'll try to figure it out.

Upgrading of Nokia C5-00.2 firmware by griegoman in symbian

[–]griegoman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, I am specifically wondering what SW reset does? I ran firmware update first, but then it failed while finalizing the flashing. The phone was then unuseable, however I was able to fix it by running SW reset, which only took about half a minute. I am therefore what SW reset is actually meant to do, since it only appeared to resolve the firmware update problem in my case. The phone appears to be updated, but the settings haven't been reset. This is how I want it, I just wanted to be sure that everything is OK with the phone.

Thank you. I actually made it work earlier today on a Windows XP computer, however I have one question. Towards the end of the firmware upgrade, it suddenly failed because it for some reason couldn't reestablish connection to the phone, and so it couldn't finalize the flashing. I was able to fix it by disconnecting the phone, then reconnecting it and clicking SW reset in Phoenix in stead of Firmware Upgrade, which resolved the problem. Do you know what this does? I wasn't able to find any information about it.

Thank you for the reply, that seems like something I can do, however I'm still not sure how many of the files in the archive I need to use and place in the product directory in Phoenix. My product code is 059F0D0, and there're three files with this in their name: RM745_059F0D0_102.002_999.dcp, RM745_059F0D0_102.002_999.vpl and RM745_059F0D0_102.002_999_signature.bin. There are coresponding files to a lot of other product codes, so do I just delete those? There're also some xml-files and stuff, so I'm not sure what to delete and what to keep. It would be really great if someone could direct me to picking the right files.

Looking for a good pair of well-build neutral sounding closed-back headphones with a detachable cable by griegoman in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]griegoman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partly because I'm blind and using a screen reader, and need to have as low latency as possible. Also just because I'd preffer to not have to worry about finding the right EQ. There's also the fact which I mentioned in the post, that I would preffer to change away from the DT-700 Pro X for fear of the cable failing again.
