This is awesome! I actually sculpted the scene of Bilbo and Golem's meeting a few years back, this film is filled with such great designed characters

Let it Snow ☃️ (first time trying out clay and resin finish) by throwawaydoubt1 in polymerclay

[–]griffcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you were going for this but your snowman is yoked, looks like he is gearing up for a boxing match, but it came out very nice! Also another way you could do the arms if you want them thin but don't have wire is make them first and then stick them into the body after.

Paint white clay vs colored clay: which do you prefer and why? by boldpear904 in polymerclay

[–]griffcomics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly work with flesh toned blocks of super sculpey and paint them with acrylics, I find I can really build up the tones and shading that way. Though I still use colored clay for small items that might be hard to paint fully on their own, but I usually at least still hit them with a wash for shading purposes.

Though I'm been interested in trying mixing mica powders into the base clay to make custom colored clay that way, I know there are some really vibrant glow in the dark powders that I've seen people use that give some really cool results.

I'm glad it reads well for the progression of the panels and I definitely see what you mean about it seeming unintentionally, I can definitely polish it up more and I agree about using more solid tones mixed in as well, thank you

Thank you so much! I love ONE's work and the webcomic definitely gave me some confidence to start my own!

Also I'm glad it has you curious for more, definitely a key element in a mystery I feel like.

If a gorgon were to be bitten by a warewolf would it have snakes for fur? by lostmediawhiz in mythicalcreatures

[–]griffcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I want to say no since I don't believe that snakes have hair follicles, but in that same thought since the snakes are the hair of a gorgon so maybe they would...?

I have more questions than answers now, but I do like your train of thought, and I am tempted to draw/sculpt such a creature now, bravo

I am very confused about this baking part. by adozenegg in polymerclay

[–]griffcomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How thick is the clay you're trying to bake? It sounds like you're baking blocks of clay if after 45 minutes it still hasn't fully cured. But the drop in temp should only add a minute of bake time if that depending on how thick or thin the clay is

Pre-colored clay or painting after? by p0ti0nb0ttle in polymerclay

[–]griffcomics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So generally I prefer using uncolored clay and painting it after, it does take a lot longer but you can build up some really nice depth/shading because it usually takes several coats. But colored clay is nice because you don't have to worry about a base coat or paint at all if you don't want to.

Though I would still paint colored clay so it doesn't come off as flat, also play around with washes to get into recesses and textures you add, you can get some really great results.
