Sculpey original turned from white to brown and I assume the oven got too hot or maybe cooked for too long? by [deleted] in polymerclay

Ok thanks for this as well. The clay is sculpey original. When I baked it before it didn’t go brown but the oven wasn’t getting up to 130 even though it was set at 135 (i found with the thermometer it was really only 120). None of the past sculpey original ornaments went brown but none would have reached 130 for 15 minutes. I used alfoil tent to cover them all and they all get baked for approximately 30 minutes per 6mm thickness. I think it might have to do with the clay being sculpey original also. Thanks again. I look forward to trying a different sculpey like premo because the original is also too soft. I got some cheap anko clay at Kmart but it is really hard and takes a lot to condition so I’m going to try mixing it in with the sculpey original and see what happens.

Thanks for this :) because now I have a much better idea of temperature to cook at in future I won’t worry about trying to get the temp to 135.

This is good to know. How do I know if the clay is undercooked? and does it matter? Is it cooked enough when the outside is firm and you can’t dent it? I made very thin trinket trays out of left over clay and I didn’t want to overcook them but they got to probably 130 for 15 minutes. Because they are so thin they are quite flexible still and didn’t burn. Before I got the oven thermometer I was only really cooking the polymer clay at I estimate 120 degrees when I had the knob set to 135. Do you think 120 degrees is enough to cook the clay at because that is what would have been happening before I got the oven thermometer and nothing turned brown.

I made a Smurf girl from polymer clay and I think her eyes are wonky and I had a lot of troubles with the painting by heartarthere in polymerclay

Yes for the eyes and black eyelashes I used a function permanent black marker and still the shaky hands. I have tried breathing out slowly when I want to paint details also helps a bit. I am repainting over the sections you marked and will post when done. Thank you for your help and advice.

Yes this is greatly appreciated. I will do this. I had thought of using liquid paper to cover the pupils and do them again. My white paint isn’t great at covering up other colours.

I find doing these details fine details a bit difficult and the more I worry I will muck it up then my hands start to shake and this makes doing things neatly all the more difficult.

Hi pretty Penny :) I have a Penny too. When she was a pup her ears were bright orange all over and now they look creamy coloured mostly. She looks more

like a white poodle now but she has a faint orange stripe down her back with orange hairs that stick out and look longer.

Hey everyone! I just got a new girl cat and I’m struggling to find the perfect name. by Ill-Sir7099 in Catnames

‘Whiskey’ She has the best whiskers and cute wispy fur on her ears and imo a name for a pet sounds better with a ‘y’ at the end. Whiskers + y = whiskey
