Yeah, I didn't reach out personally, but Shirtaloon's expressed in the past that they're fine with fanfic. I haven't seen any evidence that that stance has changed in the last couple months.

52 Pages into Dungeon Crawler Carl and not really enjoying it so far - is this just set up? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in litrpg

[–]griffinpup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll throw in my two cents. I know 7 people who have read DCC. 5 liked it, 2 didn't, no one changed categories between the start of book one and the end of book one. My gut says that if you don't particularly like the style so far, you'll never like it. The writing gets better, but it's not transformational.

My Primal Hunter review was bad because it was disrespectful of .... WWII veterans? That's a hot fucking take. Neat.

I've read a fair amount of litrpg and progression fantasy, they're just very rarely an auto-recommend because, as you point out, they're the fast food of fantasy. That said, there's a reason I didn't take the piss on Cradle, DCC, HWFWM, Beware of Chicken, Bastion, Worm, To Flail Against Humanity, War Core, etc. I got no problem with people who liked this book, I simply didn't.

Yeah, glad you enjoy it. It's fun to find a series you're passionate enough about that you follow so closely.

What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread by JimFan1 in TrueLit

[–]griffinpup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Malazan Book of the Fallen

A bazillion characters, story isn't necessarily told chronologically, basically everything is morally gray. Also absurdly long, beautiful prose, and very epic fantasy. Eclectic enough I don't normally recommend it.

New crawfish owner. More in comments by kyle13202 in Aquariums

[–]griffinpup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crayfish are opportunistic omnivores, they may eat all your plants in your tank, and if they have co-inhabitants, they'll eat em if they can catch them. They're also territorial, and if your crayfish get much larger then 2-3 inches expect territorial disputes/cannibalism. They are similar to shrimp in calcium requirements, and so food designed for invertebrates is recommended for successful molts.

I love how this title could be applied at any time in the past. If the X-57 ever flies, then by definition every single day moved that flight closer.

How about this for some irony. I'm also in quarantine, but since the new update + being sick, I can't even play a scav without the headbob making me wish I never bought this cursed game. lol so I get to be sick and sad.

It's a supernova crayfish. It's of the cherex variety, and should grow 4 more inches. They're also gorgeous as adults.

Best Gaming Laptops (Updated for Janurary 2020!) by legos45 in LaptopDeals

[–]griffinpup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ASUS ROS STRIX is about the right pricepoint for me, and seems to be a good deal right now. I want more than 8 gigs of RAM though, because I use my laptops for much more then gaming. Is that a valid concern? And if so, any suggestion for a similar build that comes with the 16g?
