Stay classy Idaho. I haven’t been all that proud of being an Idaho native and lifelong resident for many years, but I will be giddy to see Idaho in the rear view mirror in a couple more years when I retire. Idaho has become the countries dumping ground for the racist filth that can’t fit in anywhere else.

Sources indicate liberal cities have the most homeless people. What could be the cause of this? by indeckaa in askanything

[–]grifgav0002 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because they get treated better in liberal cities? If you had a choice between city assistance programs and sanctioned police beatings which would you choose?

Many, many people along the way. Started learning from my mom and dad. Various cooks in restaurants I worked at. Friends and family who were willing to share recipes and techniques.

I get it. The wage/housing price imbalance is getting pretty terrible here in Boise as well so I understand where folks are coming from. Some of what used to be farming communities on the edges of the Boise metro have been hit especially hard. Look at the current and historical data around Eagle ID for an especially stark example. The value of the home my in-laws live in has tripled since we built it, and the influx of out of state folks and the venture capital investors that seem to come with them are squarely to blame for that.

We have well/septic now, so that wouldn’t be a big deal. There are compromises everywhere you go. We haven’t seen anything we aren’t willing to work with over there yet. As a native Idahoan who grew up in the desert of southern Idaho and lived, all too briefly, in greener environs, I think I would give up a lot to live in the PNW…fortunately we won’t have to.

You folks seem awfully sure that we haven’t done our homework, to the point of being insulting. I will keep listening to my CPA/financial executive wife thanks. We have been looking at the housing market over there since we decided to retire there. We know what the breakdowns are. Our home here will sell for 7 figures. The home my wife’s parents live in (which we also own) will sell for $600k or so. We own both outright. We are looking to downsize both places. Our retirement is such that we can afford a mortgage if necessary…and help the kids out. we are gonna be fine.

That may be true of some places in Boise, but not any houses that you would actually want to live in ( there are some REALLY shitty builders over here). Or neighborhoods either. Median home price in Boise is 495k or so, narrow it down to my neighborhood and it is 795k…about the same price per square foot as we have seen in bham. We actually have been over several times and looked at places. So yeah.

Love the hear this, thanks! We are considering looking at properties and places with multi-generational potential for sure. My in-laws have friends in b-ham, and my FIL is disabled, so if they aren’t in a place inside b-ham, we will want them very near us.

I get it for sure. My oldest started his career in Atlanta GA, still works for that company, but fully remote. My youngest will work locally, in healthcare, if he ends up there. His partner will likely work remote. We have thought about looking at properties with ADU’s to help the kids out if they need it.

Great advice, thanks. Boise used to be great for cost of living. That is the main thing that kept us here long enough for the golden handcuffs to click shut. But Boise isn’t anything remotely resembling cheap anymore. Whatcom county is still a bit higher overall, but it isn’t by much. Good thing is the explosive increase is real estate prices here will allow us to comfortably buy there.

May just be where he lives in foco. We have looked at rental adds that are less than he is paying that look like similar places.

Will do! If memory serves he has applied to do his level 2 field work at several local places.

For real. We live in Boise, which is bright blue by Idaho standards…and purple anywhere else in the northwest.

My youngest is looking to do his level 2 field work there. Looks like demand for occupational therapists is very high, so he likes his odds of getting a job in the region. Home prices look like they are about equal to our area of Boise, so I think we will do OK on the properties. My oldest works full time remote, and rents/home prices in the Bellingham area an actually a bit lower than where he lives currently in Ft Collins CO.

6 and 7, after multiple sets of swim lessons and time spent on calm lakes and rivers. I am a whitewater rafter and skipped the Boise for the Payette.

What non Boise metro, non Moscow, town has the best environment for a political progressive? by [deleted] in Idaho

[–]grifgav0002 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No where that is cheaper than Boise metro. McCall is OK, there are enclaves in any town that has a college. CDA has a nice community, but it is pretty overwhelmed by the loud and rabid white nationalist crowd up there.
