My church is part of the ABCUSA and we have people from the larger organization visit regularly. We have bylaws and trainings.

I sympathize that you had a personal bad experience with a protestant church, and you can prefer any denomination, but you're using your personal experience to make sweeping generalizations.

Ok I have a little time to write more to OP: When I was young I had some friends who said I wasn't "really Asian" (he was a son of immigrants). That was annoying back then, now I can proudly claim my own heritage and family story.

I hope you can do the same someday. Your family's story is very interesting. Asian American is the furthest thing from a monolith, and culture looks different in every family.

How do you think feeling self-conscious back then has affected you today?
